groupe de travail à cet effet.
Les travaux préparatoires
arrivent maintenant à terme
et, dans quelques semaines,
les Frères de la Côte
pourront accéder à leur site.
Que contiendra ce nouveau
moyen de communication?
D'abord, l'ensemble de
notre
patrimoine:
l'Octalogue dans toutes les
langues, des textes de base
comme les Protocoles et
ordonnances chiliens, le
Manuel du Bosco, etc.
Ensuite il y aura le Grand
Dictionnaire de la Côte, mis
à jour, la collection
complète de The Tortuga
Post, une rubrique de
nouvelles, des images et des
sons, ainsi que des liens
vers les sites nationaux.
Tout cela sera libre d'accès.
En revanche, la consultation
de
données
sensibles
comme notre Directory ou
les Rôles nationaux sera
protégée par un système de
mots de passe. A très

Costa,
actualizado,

como enlaces hacia los
sitios nacionales. Todo ello
con acceso libre. Por otra
parte, la consulta de datos
significativos como nuestro
directorio o los roles
nacionales será protegida
por un sistema en base a
contraseñas. Bienvenidos a

method of communication
contain?
First,

assemblage of our heritage:

fundamental
texts like the Chilean

etc. And then there will be
the
updated

Dictionary of the Coast, the

and sound files, as well as

All this will be freely
accessible.
Contrarily,

A first draft
The idea is to have all official
meetings previous to all the
festivities, avoiding a stressing
Zaf and allowing Brothers
to strength our links!
We are presently working on
the navigation to Staten Island
"Isla de los Estados", world
famous
spot
(its
lighthouse) inspiring
Jules
Verne for his book. The
weather there is somewhat
rough (3 out of 4 days never
less than 20 knots wind, but its
a breathless sightseeing!).
Presently
there
is
no
regular cruising service, but if
we could get some feedback
from the
different
brotherhoods on how many of
them could be interested (just
an
indication
no
firm
commitments) we could work
in a more realistic way.
Nevertheless, for those not
interested in visiting the island,
we will organize day cruising
visiting
the
islands
around Ushuaia.

A letter from Peter Smith:
The news from Sydneyis
that I announced my
intention to step down as
Captain of the Sydney
Table and called for a
Council of Seven to be
convened in January to elect
a successor. The election
was
carried
out
in
accordance with our rules
and the Captain elected
from the three nominees
was
Don
Pattison
(previously V.G.).
Don has appointed his new
officers. You may recall
Rod Gault, who attended
Portsmouth (his wife was in
a wheelchair), is the Master
at Arms or Contremaster.
Don has requested I take on
the role of V.G. which I
have accepted gladly.
We have been fortunate to
have Jean-Pierre LaCroix
and his captive Nicole visit
Sydney for a couple of
weeks. This was principally
to visit his daughter, who
has recently become a
permanent resident here.
Jean-Pierre was a most
welcome guest at the
premier
Zafarrancho
conducted under Captain
Pattison. Jean –Pierre’s
enthusiasm
for
the
Brotherhood was infectious
and enjoyed by us all.
At the Zafarrancho an
engagé was considered as
suitable as a future Brother.
The main feature of our
March Zafarrancho will
therefore be the induction
of Carlos Yanez into the
Sydney Table. Carlos was

originally from Valparaiso
Chile where he served in the
Chilean Air Force. He
should be able to improve
our Spanish and has
furthered the introduction of
Pisco to the Sydney table.
We are delighted with
Carlos joining us as he
brings many contacts to our
table and he will bring some
new interest and activity to
assist with further growth.
Last minute:
Following 20 years as
National
Captain
of
Australia James Neil aka
Bluenose has stood down.
James has represented the
Australian Brotherhood at
event sin Chile, Belgium,
Italy, Ireland and the U.K.
during this period.
We look forward to James
enjoying many more years
with our Brotherhood and
wish he and Sandra health,
happiness and a fair breeze.
May the winds favour them.
Until such time that there
are additional tables in
Australia the position of
National
Captain
will
remain vacant with the
captain of the Sydney
Table, Don Pattison, being
the senior representative of
the
Brotherhood
in
Australia.
A
commemorative
Zafarrancho
has
been
conducted on May 9 in
appreciation of James's
service to the Hermandad.
He has been given the role
and style of "SurgeonBarber" of the Australian
Brothers.

ouvert dans les salons de
l’hôtel SOFITEL pour se
terminer à 4 H du matin
dans l’allégresse & les
vapeurs de distillats. Le
nombre de participants à ce
Grand Boucan fut de 220
personnes.
Le samedi fut consacré à la
culture
grâce
aux
explications prodiguées par
les guides qui nous firent
visiter la ville avec comme
thème : la période de
Charles Quint.
Une organisation de grande
classe et généreuse comme
les Gantois.

edita periódicamente el
pasquín El Santiaguillo,
donde deja constancia de la
bitácora de la navegación,
con fotografías a colores y

secciones de deportes y
cultura.
El pasquín lo inició el Hno.
Luis Verdi en Marzo de
1993, por lo que ahora en
Marzo de 2003 cumple 10
años de existencia.
El
último
número
correspondiente a Marzo de
este año es el 81, lo que da
una media de 8,1 números
por año.
Se trata normalmente de
una publicación en hojas
tamaño oficio (21,9 x 33
cm) de 6 a 8 páginas escrita
por ambos lados, a dos y
tres columnas, sujeta por
corchete. Tiene un tiraje de
100 ejemplares cada vez.
La Nao Santiago reparte la
revista a todas las Naos de
Chile, autoridades y algunas
naos vecinas, que lo
reclaman cuando no les
llega oportunamente.
Muchos hermanos han
enviado saludos y adhesión
a tan magno cumpleaños,
puesto que es habitual que
iniciativas como esta tengan
poca perseverancia y el
entusiasmo inicial se disipe
con las olas de la Mar.

de combate, con cautivas,

haber sido la primera Nao

aniversario. Llegaron a sus
cubiertas capitanes de la
Nao
de
Talcahuano,
Iquique, Coquimbo La
Serena y delegaciones de El
Quisco y Tomé Dichato,
además del comandante de
la Guarnición Naval de la
Armada de Chile en
Santiago. Se aprovecho la
oportunidad de entregar
premios a filibusteros más
destacados en la última
singladura.

Brotherhood Of The Coast
of Venezuela and by
express and mandatory

your condition of Secretary
General
of
the
Brotherhood of the Coast in
order to participate you the
following:
Exactly two years ago, in
March of 2001, The
Venezuelan Brothers Pedro
Glueckmann and Italo D'
Arrigo, in the name of the
Brotherhood of The Coast
of Venezuela, promoted the
foundation
of
the
Brotherhood of the Coast of
New Zealand, which was
carried out according to the
requirements established by
the said Secretary Office.
According
to
these
requirements,
the
Venezuelan
Brotherhood
has complied
with his
obligation of attending and
guiding for the initial period
of two years, the newly
founded
Brotherhood,
giving them the support and
the necessary following to
teach them conveniently
how to comply with the
traditions and customs of
the Brotherhood.
The New Zealand Brothers
have accepted favorably our
help and they applied our
suggestions in the course of
these 24 months, especially
for the celebration of the
Zafarranchos,
the
incorporation of candidates
to
Brothers
and
establishing
international
relations, especially with
the neighboring Brothers of
the
Table
of
New
Caledonia.
According to our opinion,
having
celebrated
his
second anniversary, the
Brotherhood
of
New
Zealand has firmly taken
roots and has the sufficient
knowledge to follow his
own road in an independent
way, without the need of
subsequent aid from the
Venezuelan Brotherhood.
By this reason we ask to
this Secrataría, to relieve us
from the responsability of
continuing to provide direct
help to that Brotherhood
and we take this opportunity
to
congratulate
our
Brothers of New Zealand
for their excellent work and
enthusiasm that helped them
to be definitely integrated
to the Brotherhood Of The
Coast.

A message from the
Norwegian
National
Captain:
Once again we ask to be
excused for our anonymity,
which still is mainly due to
the fact that we are very
much on
the
move.
However, the Brotherhood
is still alive and well here in
Norway and our latest
activities have been on an

international scale. We
sailed
the
"Statsraad
Lehmkuhl" to Norfolk this
past November and had the
pleasure
of
being
entertained by Brothers of
the Chesapeake table. In
December our table was
represented in the Bahamas,
on Man-o-War Key, Abaco,
where we witnessed the
induction of 4 new Brothers
into the Bahamian table in
good
company
with
brothers from the Savannah,
Gulf Coast and Chesapeake
tables. On the home front
we have finally managed to
find a few more Brothers
who have passed through
the eye of the needle and
into our very exclusive
company.
Amongst
a
population of merely 4,5
million, it is not easy to find
the perfect candidates. The
new brothers are as follows:
Per Stefansen "Per do
little", Paul Jangaard "Dr.
Deadeye" and coming up
for induction soon Fredrik
Faye no AKA as of yet.
And that is about all for
now, we will do our
best to keep you updated

POLAND
For 36 years Polish
Brotherhood of the Coast
was existing as
one
"Polish"
Table
whose
nominal site was the capital
- Warsaw. Brothers were
living all over the country
and gathered in appointed
places for Zaffaranchos .
Since 19 October 2002 we
have a new Table: "Mesa
Kaprow
Szczecinskich"
with site in Szczecin, a sea
port town in nort-west
Poland. New table come to
life not by sponsoring but
by division or "budding". A
map in mentioned above
"Vademecum for Captains"
was showing Szczecin as a
site of Brotherhood Table
well in advance... No doubt
a case of clairvoyance.
Thanks to this development
the map needs now only
addition of Warsaw, not
deletion of Szczecin.
The last but one Zaff
happened 15 June 2002 - in
Gdynia, on board of famous
sail training ship "Dar
Pomorza" now retired as a
museum. It was a worthy
and dignified venue for
decoration of several people
(not only Brothers!) with a
well earned awards of
Polish Brotherhood and for
induction of few Engages.
Quantity of Brothers in
Poland rose then to 63. The
last
awarded
personal
number is 85 so alas quite a
few numbers are already
empty...
The
last
Zaffarancho on 19 October
2002 was in Warsaw.
Topics included internet
communication, choice of
exhibits
for
Chilean
Museum of Hermandad de
la Costa and adding a
suitable
national
distinguishing mark on our
Polish Brotherhood flag.
We are publishing a
newsletter called "Captain's
Minute" but in Polish only
so of limited use on
international forum. We
also started publishing/
reprinting maritime books,
good or excellent in our
opinion, as a "Golden
Series of Brotherhood of
the Coast". The first was a
Polish translation of essays
by Danish author Tage Voss
"The Sea Around Our
Home". I do not know
whether there is an English

translation. But it is a very
good book of universal
appeal and well worth of
Brothers' interest. Perhaps
Tage Voss does not realise
but he is our spiritual
Brother.

(Capitaine national):
Consol Dave, qui a mené
les Frères du Sénégal durant
30 ans (!) avec la plus
grande fermeté, mais aussi
avec un humour débridé, a
passé son sabre à Jean Rey,
dit La Cambuse le 9 mars
dernier. Commentaire de
Consol Dave: "Après 30 ans
de bons et assoiffants
services il était temps pour
moi de me reposer sur mes
bouteilles et de laisser à un
Frère plus jeune et fringant
les destinées de la Table du
Sénégal…". Consol Dave
annonce
également
la
démission de Krouch qui ne
doit donc plus figurer sur
aucun rôle, où que ce soit.

En ce qui concerne
l’éventuelle
nomination

rien n’a pour l’instant été
décidé. Je voudrais en

Consol Dave et aux Frères
de la table actuellement
présents. Il faut que savoir
que notre table à la
particularité
d’être
essentiellement flottante et
que la présence des frères
est un peu aléatoire, car ils
ont été cooptés à la faveur
de longues escales ou
d’escales réitérées, ou à la
faveur
de
contrats
professionnels les ayant
maintenus plusieurs années
à Dakar. Ils étaient tous
gens de mer propriétaires de
leur nef, et plus citoyens du
monde que d’un lieu. Seule
une petite minorité est
définitivement installée au
Sénégal et constitue le
noyau dur de notre table
bien aimée.
Je souhaiterais donc l'élargir
en cooptant comme cela se
pratique au Chili et ailleurs
des Frères non marins dont
je sais, habitant Dakar
depuis 20 ans qu’ils ont
toujours étés présents pour
donner un coup de main aux
voiliers nécessiteux ou en
avarie, et qui portent à la
mer et à ses marins, un
intérêt
certain
et
désintéressé. La finalité de
la démarche est de renforcer
ce noyau afin de développer
la table et ces activités. Je
pense que ce type de
cooptation reste dans le
cadre de l’esprit des frères
de la côte.
En ce qui concerne nos
activités
nous
avons
organisé pour notre ami
Pâte à choux dit Marcel
Mal co/vice-président avec
moi- même mon humble
seigneur, de l’amicale des
plaisanciers de Dakar, un
branle-bas d’au revoir pour
fêter son départ vers le
Costarica ou l’attend son
voilier le Silcorver et une
traversée que nous lui
souhaitons de rêve vers les
îles du pacifique. Il à été
notre ambassadeur au pré
de la table argentine et
chilienne
pendant
ces
dernières années et sa soute
réputée pour la qualité de
ses bourgognes rares, aura
laissé
si
mes
renseignements sont bons
quelques souvenirs émus
sur les papilles des frères
qui l’ont si cordialement
accueilli.

réunit
fréquemment dans la salle

Voile de la SNG, base
arrière et club d'Alinghi. Il
en résulte que pendant
quelques années, que nous
souhaitons
aussi
nombreuses que possible,
les Frères suisses auront
l'honneur de boucaner sous
la célèbre aiguière d'argent,
jadis
offerte
par
le
Commodore du NY Yacht
Club, John C.Stevens et
arrachée de haute lutte aux
baies
des
antipodes.
L'America Cup et la Coupe
L. Vuitton voyagent pour le
moment à travers la Suisse
(au sommet du Cervin ?) et
ne seront visibles au club
qu'en septembre.
Nous espérons organiser à
ce moment, un grand
Zafarrancho autour des
trophées d'Alinghi, et y

convier tous nos Frères
Européens, Néo Zélandais
ou des Amériques.
En
attendant
ces
événements
les
tables
suisses se sont réunies cet
hiver à Versoix, à Morges
ou à Villeneuve en des
branle-bas
galants,
le
dernier autour de la Barque
des
Enfants,
dernière
barque du lac construite sur
les plans d'une barque du
XIXe siècle par des
chômeurs et des bénévoles.
Cette barque est destinée à
faire découvrir aux enfants
des écoles la navigation sur
le Léman et la vie à bord en
communauté. Christian à la
barre des travaux et des
démarches administratives
est un de nos Frères.
