Sunday of Divine Mercy Dimanche de la Miséricorde divine April 12, 2015 Sunday of Divine Mercy: When we place Confirmation at Visitation Parish our trust in God, His mercy conquers the world. Christ extends His victory over sin and death through us in the sacrament of reconciliation; let us in turn show this mercy to those we encounter in our personal relationships. The whole community rejoices with our candidates for confirmation as they prepare for this important and solemn moment in their lives. Please support them with your prayers in the coming week! The readings…Les lectures... Confirmation: Wednesday, April 15th 6:30 pm: 7:00 pm: All confirmation candidates must be at the parish and in their gowns no later than 6:30 pm. Mass begins – refreshments and distribution of certificates to follow in the hall. All parishioners are welcome and encouraged to attend the confirmation. Please come and show your support to let our young people know that receiving this sacrament is significant not only for those being confirmed but for our entire parish community! Did you know? There is a rumor going around that confirmation is “when you become an adult in the Church” or even “when you choose for yourself to become Catholic”. This IS NOT what our faith teaches us! Confirmation is the necessary completion or “sealing” of the grace received in baptism. (CCC 1285) It gives the candidate the strength and power from God himself: (1) rooting them more deeply as adopted sons and daughters of God; (2) unites them more firmly to Christ; (3) increases in them the gifts of the Holy Spirit; (4) makes their bond with the Church more perfect (5) gives them a special strength to defend the faith by word and action as true witnesses of Christ, to confess the name of Christ boldly, and never to be ashamed of the Cross. (CCC 1303) Confirmation – like all the sacraments, is more about God’s action in the soul rather than our initiative. What we can do is prepare our hearts to be fruitful soil, free of the weeds of sin and full of the fertilizer of our virtuous acts so that the seed – the Word of God – can take root and grow.
