industry,andthehealthofcoastalcommunitieswherefishingoperationsarebased.TheLiberalPartyiscommittedtoensuringall
managementdecisionsaremadeinfullconsultationwiththeindustry,Aboriginalgroups,andallstakeholderssuchasthe
CanadianIndependentFishHarvesters’Federation,whilerespectingenvironmentalsustainability,andtheeconomicviabilityof
independentfishharvestersandcoastalcommunities.
TheLiberalPartyiscommittedtomakingaccess,allocationandsharingarrangementdecisionsmoreopen,transparent,stableand
predictabletostrengthenconsultationwithallstakeholdersandresourceusers.
Wewillensureastableandpredictableaccessandallocationprocess,givingprioritytothosewhoareclosesttotheresource.
Thesecriticaldecisionswillalsobemadeinafairandconsistentmannerinawaythatdoesnotincreaseinequality,inter-personal
orinter-regionaldisparities,andhasconservation,economicviability,andthefutureoftheresourceasvitalconsiderations.

Webelievethatthebenefitsofoursharedresourcesmustprimarilyflowtothefishersandcoastalcommunitiesthatdependon
theresourceanddecisionsonmanagementandallocationmustbemadeinfullconsultationandcollaborationwithstakeholders,
FirstNationsandcoastalcommunities.
AsMPwouldyouencouragethegrowth,investmentin,andregenerationofsmallboatfleetsandcoastalcommunitiesthroughout
Canada?
ATrudeau-ledgovernmentwillsupportthefisheriessectorandprotecttheresourceforthefuture;thiswillincludepartneringwith
theindustryandprovincestoreviewincomesupportprogramstoensurethesuccessoftheinshorefishery.
Wewillusescientificevidenceandtheprecautionaryprincipleandtakeintoaccountclimatechangewhenmakingdecisions
effectingfishstocksandecosystemmanagementandwewillreversethe$40millionthatHarpercutfromthefederal
government’soceanscienceandmonitoringprograms.
Wewillalsoinvest$200millionannuallytocreatesector-specificstrategiesthatsupportinnovationandcleantechnologiesinthe
forestry,fisheries,mining,energy,andagriculturalsectors.

thebestuseofourmarineresources,butgivecoastalcommunitiesandtheindustrymoresayinmanagingtheresourcesaround
them.
IfelectedwillyouworktoensureCanada'sfisheriesresourcesremainapubliclyownedresource,managedsustainablyinthebest
interestsofcoastalcommunities,whilekeepingcurrentandfuturegenerationsoffishermeninmind?

Invest$200millionannuallytocreatesector-specificstrategiesthatsupportinnovationandcleantechnologiesinthe
forestry,fisheries,mining,energy,andagriculturalsectors.
ConductawholesalereviewoftheConservatives’changestotheFisheriesActandtheeliminationoftheNavigable
WatersAct,tore-establishlostprotectionsandincorporatemoremodernsafeguards.
IncreasetheamountofCanada’sprotectedmarineandcoastalareasfrom1.3percentto5percentby2017,and10
percentby2020.
Reversethe$40millionthatHarpercutfromthefederalgovernment’soceanscienceandmonitoringprograms.
Workwiththeprovinces,IndigenousPeoples,andotherstakeholderstouseourmarineresourcesefficiently.Wewill
empowercoastalcommunitiestomanagetheirresourcesandensuresmarterco-managementofouroceans.
DeepenourcommitmenttoworkwithothergovernmentstoprotectCanada’sfreshwaterthrougheducation,geomapping,watershedprotection,andinfrastructureinvestmentsinthebestwastewatertreatmenttechnologies.
Restore$1.5millioninfederalfundingforfreshwaterresearch,cutbytheConservatives,andmakenewinvestmentsin
Canada’sworld-leadingIISDExperimentalLakesArea.

• NousprocéderonsàunexamencompletdesmodificationsapportéesparlesconservateursàlaLoisurlespêcheset
étudieronslasuppressiondelaLoisurlaprotectiondeseauxnavigablesenvuederétablirlesmesuresdeprotection
éliminéesetdemettreenplacedesbalisesrépondantauxcritèresactuels;
• Nousporteronslasuperficiedeszonesmarinesetcôtièresprotégéesà5%d’ici2017,puisà10%pourl’horizon2020,
alorsqu’elleestactuellementde1,3%;
• Nousrétablironslefinancementde40millionsdedollarssuppriméparM.Harperetdestinéauxprogrammesfédéraux
derechercheocéanographiqueetdesurveillancedesocéans;
• Noustravailleronsdeconcertaveclesprovinces,lespeuplesautochtonesetlesautresintervenantspourutiliseràbon
escientlesressourcesmarines.Nousdonneronsauxcommunautéscôtièreslesmoyensdegérerleursressources,tout
enassurantunecogestionplusintelligentedenosocéans;
• Nousrenforceronslacollaborationavecd’autresgouvernementspourprotégerleseauxdoucesduCanadagrâceàla
sensibilisation,àlagéocartographie,àlaprotectiondesbassinshydrographiquesetàdesinvestissementsdansles
meilleurestechnologiesdetraitementdeseauxusées;
• Nousrétablironslefinancementde1,5milliondedollarsaccordéàlarecherchesurl’eaudouce(suppriméparles
conservateurs)etferonsdenouveauxinvestissementsdanslaRégiondeslacsexpérimentaux,uncentrederecherche
canadienderenomméemondialeplacésousl’égidedel’Institutinternationaldudéveloppementdurable.
