Da S. Siro
a Cremia
Arrivo a Santa Maria di S. Siro. Visita alla parrocchiale di S. Maria costruita tra il 1464 e il 1474 per
accogliere i monaci domenicani. La chiesa è caratterizzata all’interno da una ricchissima decorazione
pittorica; gli affreschi firmati da Sigismondo De Magistris nel 1541, un’ascensione firmata da Giovanni
Pietro Gnocchi nel 1578 e le Storie della Vergine dipinta nel 1595 da Michelangelo Carminati. Poco
distante dalla chiesa si potrà ammirare l’imponente cinta muraria in pietra d’epoca tardo romana, antica
fortezza preposta al controllo del traffico lacuale e terrestre. La visita proseguirà con una passeggiata lungo il
tracciato dell’antica Via Regina fino a raggiungere i ruderi d’epoca tardo romana della torre “Castelasc”che
sovrasta l’ingresso meridionale della galleria della strada statale. Si proseguirà verso l’affascinante borgo di
S. Siro caratterizzato dalle mura merlate del castello trecentesco dei Della Torre. Passeggiando tra i vicoli
fino alla piazzetta a lago si ammireranno eleganti portali con particolari stemmi araldici. Lasciato S. Siro si
raggiungerà Cremia dove è possibile visitare una delle chiese più antiche del Lario, S. Vito, caratterizzata
dalla presenza di due campanili d’origine romanica di cui il più piccolo risale all’XI secolo. All’interno una
pala della crocefissione commissionata dalla confraternita dei genovesi costituita dagli emigranti e una
lapide marmorea con l’iscrizione “Societas Florentie di 1568”. Si raggiungerà, quindi, il centro del paese
con la parrocchiale di S. Michele facente parte di un antico monastero delle Umiliate e ricostruita nel
1577. All’interno l’importante tela con “L’Arcangelo Michele e Lucifero” attribuita a Paolo Veronese e lo
splendido polittico borgognesco di fine quattrocento raffigurante la Madonna con il bambino tra S. Rocco
e S. Sebastiano, nella parte superiore la Pietà tra S. Gerolamo e S. Tommaso. Infine si giungerà a Pianello
del Lario, un tempo centro agricolo e tessile, oggi località di villeggiatura. Visita alla parrocchiale di San
Martino, d’origine alto medioevale e ristrutturata nel 1534. All’interno un trittico cinquecentesco, un
tabernacolo marmoreo scolpito nel 1536 e le decorazioni a stucco nella parte presbiteriale realizzate nel
seicento da Isidoro Bianchi da Campione, discepolo del Morazzone. Qui ha sede anche il Museo della
Barca Lariana, importante testimonianaza del trasporto sul Lario, oltre 150 imbarcazioni esposte che
raccontano la storia delle imbarcazioni del lago.

von S.Maria, die zwischen 1464 und 1474 für die
Dominikanermönche gebaut war. Die Kirche ist von einer
inneren wertvollen malerischen Verzierung charakterisiert: die
Freskos von Sigismondo De Magistris 1541, eine Himmerlfahrt
von Giovanni Pietro Gnocchi 1578 und die Geschichte der
Cremia
Heiligen Jungfrau, gemalt 1595 bei Michelangelo Carminati.
Nicht weit von der Kirche kann man den spätrömischen
stattlichen Befestigungsgürtel bewundern, eine Festung, die
sich mit der Kontrolle des See- und Landverkehr befasste.
Der Besuch geht mit einem Spaziergang entlang des Wegs
der alte Via Regina bis das Erreichen der Ruinen des
spätrömischen Turm „Castelasc“ weiter, der den südlichen
Eingang des Staatsstraßetunnel übergeragt. Man geht zu
der bezaubernden Ortschaft von S. Siro weiter, die von mit
Zinnen versehenen Mauern des Schlosses des
vierzehnten Jahrhunderts der Familie Della
Torre. Als man unter den Gassen bis den
Platz neben dem See gegangen ist, kann man
elegante Portale mit besonderen heraldischen

Arrival at Santa Maria - S. Siro. The tour will
begin with a visit to the Santa Maria Church,
built between 1464 and 1474 as a shelter for
the Dominican monks. Inside the church, a
noteworthy rich series of frescos are to be found,
such as the ones by Sigismondo De Magistris
(1541), as well as the Ascension by Giovanni
Pietro Gnocchi (1578) and the one entitled “Le
Storie della Vergine”, representing the Stories of the
Virgin Mary, painted by Michelangelo Carminati
in 1595. Not far from the church, you will have
the chance to admire the imposing stone wall dating
back to the late Roman age, an ancient fortress
which served as a checkpoint for the sea and land
transit. The tour will continue with a walk down
the ancient street Via Regina to the ruins of the
tower called “Castelasc”, which goes back to
the late Roman age and overlooks the southern
entrance of the gallery situated in the main road.
The following stop will be S. Siro, a fascinating
village with its original fourteenth-century castle
surrounded by battlemented walls, which once
belonged to the Della Torre family. Walking along
the streets to the village square overlooking the lake
you will appreciate elegant portals with typical coats
of arms. The touristic route will lead you from S.
Siro to Cremia, where you will have the chance
to visit one of the most ancient churches in the
area surrounding Lake Lario, S. Vito, with its
two bell towers in Romanesque style. The smaller
one dates back to the eleventh century and, in it,
an altar piece representing the Crucifixion, which
was commissioned by the Genoese confraternity
founded by some emigrants, and a marble plaque
showing the epigraph “Societas Florentie di 1568”
are kept. You will then reach the town centre to
visit the church named S. Michele – reconstructed
in 1577 - which is part of the ancient monastry
“delle Umiliate”. Inside the church, the remarkable
canvas entitled “L’Arcangelo Michele e Lucifero”
– experts believe Paolo Veronese to be its author
– and the stunning polyptych that resembles to the
ones in Burgundy, painted during the late fifteenth
century representing the Virgin Mary with the
Child, between S. Rocco and S. Sebastian and, in
the upper side, the “Pietà” between S. Gerolamo
and S. Tommaso. The tour will end in Pianello
del Lario, which has evolved from a centre based
on textile and agricultural activities to a holiday
resort. The church named “San Martino” was
built in the early Middle Ages and restructured
in 1534. While visiting the chapel you will notice
a triptych carried out in the sixteenth century, a
marble tabernacle which was carved in 1536 and,
in the presbytery, the stuccoes carried out by Isidoro
Bianchi da Campione (17th century), whose
master was Morazzone. In Pianello del Lario is
also the “Museo della Barca Lariana” to be found,
an important symbol of the transportation system
of Lake Lario featuring more than 150 boats,
which chronicle the history of this transport means
in in this area.
On arrive à Santa Maria - S. Siro. On visite
l’église paroissiale de S. Maria bâtie entre
1464 et 1474 pour accueillir les moines
dominicains. À l’intérieur de l’église on trouve
une riche décoration picturale; les fresques
de Sigismondo De Magistris de 1541, une
ascension de Giovanni Pietro Gnocchi de
1578 et les Histoires de la Vierge peignées
en l’an 1595 par Michelangelo Carminati.
Peu loin de l’église, l’imposante enceinte
fortifiée en pierre remontant à l’époque du
Bas-Empire, une forteresse ancienne pour
le contrôle du trafic lacustre et terrestre. On
continue la visite promenant le long du tracé
de l’ancienne Via Regina à travers la quelle on
atteint les ruines de l’époque du Bas-Empire
de la tour “Castelasc” qui domine l’entrée
sud de la galerie de la route nationale. Le
tour poursuit vers le bourg fascinant de S.
Siro, qui est caractérisé par les murs crénelés
du château du XIVe siècle de la famille Della
Torre. Promenant à travers les ruelles jusqu’à
la petite place sur le lac on admire des portails
élégants montrant de particuliers blasons
héraldiques. Une fois abandonné S. Siro
on arrive à Cremia qui propose la visite de
une des églises les plus anciennes du Lario,
S. Vito, caractéristique en raison de ses deux
clochers d’origine romane, dont le plus petit
remonte au XIe siècle. À son intérieur se
trouve un retable de la crucifixion commando
par la confrérie des Génois dont les membres
étaient des émigrants, et une plaque de
marbre avec l’inscription “Societas Florentie
di 1568”.
On parvient maintenant au centre du village
où l’église paroissiale de S. Michele fait partie
d’un ancien monastère des Humiliées et
reconstruite en 1577. À l’intérieur se trouve
l’importante toile avec “L’Archange Michel
et Lucifer” attribuée à Paolo Veronese et
le merveilleux polyptyque de Bourgogne de
la fin du XVe siècle représentant la Vierge
à l’enfant entre St. Roch et St. Sébastien ;
la partie supérieure figure la Pietà entre St.
Jérôme et St. Thomas. Enfin, on arrive à
Pianello del Lario, un centre agricole et textile
dans le passé, station touristique aujourd’hui.
Visite à l’église paroissiale de San Martino,
dont l’origine remonte à l’Haut MoyenÂge, qui a été remise à neuf en 1534. À
l’intérieur se trouve un triptyque du XVIe
siècle, un tabernacle en marre gravé en 1536
et les décorations stuquées dans la partie du
presbytère réalisées au XVIIe siècle par Isidoro
Bianchi da Campione, disciple de Morazzone.
Le Musée de la Barca Lariana a son siège
ici. Il s’agit d’un témoignage important du
transport sur le Lario, où plus de 150 bateaux
sont exposées et racontent l’histoire des
embarcations du lac.

Il tracciato della strada storica, che arriva a Nobiallo, si incunea fra le stradine dal sapore medioevale, sfiora
la chiesa dei SS. Bartolomeo e Nicolò con il possente campanile pendente e giunge alla bella piazzetta
lastricata. Da qui origina il percorso che superato il ponticello porta all’inizio della salita verso il Sasso
Rancio, proprio all’inizio della salita da visitare il Santuario della Madonna della Pace. Tale passaggio risale
probabilmente al periodo medievale. Questo tratto è sempre stato il nodo critico del percorso dovendo
superare un possente e impervio torrione di roccia a strapiombo sul lago, che costringeva i viandanti a una
faticosa salita non scevra di pericoli. Proseguendo il cammino incontriamo la cappella in stile barocco che ci
avverte che si è in prossimità del borgo di Acquaseria. Il successivo abitato che s’incontra è Sant’Abbondio.
Più avanti, Santa Maria con l’omonima parrocchiale dalla severa facciata ornata da un portale in marmo dei
primi del Cinquecento. Il rientro può avvenire con bus o percorrendo a ritroso il suggestivo itinerario.
Alte Via Regina
Die alte Straße, die zu Nobiallo führt,
dringt in mittelalterliche Gassen ein,
sie geht an der Kirche der Heiligen
Bartolomeo und Nicolò und ihrem
imposanten schiefen Glockenturm
vorbei bis zum schönen gepflasterten
Platz. Hier fängt die Strecke an, die
nach dem Steg den Eingang des
Anstiegs nach dem Berg Sasso Rancio
erreicht. In diesem Punkt ist die
Wallfahrtskirche der Madonna della
Pace zu finden. Diese Straße geht
wahrscheinlich auf das Mittelalter
zurück, und dieser Abschnitt ist seit
jeher der kritische Punkt, weil man
einen imposanten und unwegsamen
Wachtturm aus Stein durchqueren
muss. Er hängt über den See und
die Wanderer waren zu einem
anstrengenden Anstieg gezwungen,
wenn auch mit Gefahren... Auf dem
Weg finden man eine Kapelle, die an
die Barokzeit erinnert, und die uns zeigt,
dass wir in der Nähe von Acquaseria
sind. Gleich danach erreicht man
Sant’Abbondio und die Kirche Santa
Maria, deren strengen Vorderfront mit
einem Marmorportal aus dem frühen
16. Jahrhundert geschmückt ist. Sie
können mit dem Bus zurückkehren,
oder die stimmungsvolle Route
rückwärts begehen.

The route of the ancient road arriving at
Nobiallo penetrates the medieval paths,
passes the church of SS. Bartolomeo
and Nicolò with the massive hanging
bell tower and arrives at the nice paved
square. Here starts the way which, after
the small bridge, leads to the beginning
of the ascent towards Sasso Rancio.
Here you shoud visit the Sanctuary of
the Madonna della Pace. This passage
dates back to the medieval period.
This tract has always been the knotty
problem, due to the fact that you have
to go over an impassable tower of stone
which falls sheer to the lake, that obliged
the excursionists to do a difficult and
dangerous ascent. Following the way
there is a chapel in the baroque style
which advises that you are near the
village of Acquaseria. The next village
is S.Abbondio. Furthermore, there is
the severe façade of S. Maria with a
marble portal of the first years of the
XVIth century.
You can come back by bus or walking
back the same way.
Le tracé de la route historique qui arrive
à Nobiallo pénètre dans les petites
routes qui convoient une atmosphère
médiévale, effleure l’église des SS.
Bartolomeo et Nicolò avec son puissant
clocher penché et arrive à la belle
place pavée. De ce point commence le
parcours qui, après le petit pont, mène
au début de la montée vers le Sasso
Rancio; juste au commencement de
la montée on visite le Sanctuaire de
la Madonna della Pace. Ce passage
remonte probablement à la période
médiévale. Ila toujours représenté un
nœud critique du parcours, comme on
doit dépasser un puissant et impraticable
donjon en roche en surplomb sur le lac,
qui forçait les voyageurs à faire face à
une montée fatigante très dangereuse.
Poursuivant notre promenade on
rencontre la chapelle en style baroque
près du bourg de Acquaseria. Le
village successif est Sant’Abbondio. On
rencontre ensuite Santa Maria, avec sa
façade sévère ayant un portail en marbre
remontant au début du XVIe siècle. On
peut rentrer en autobus ou parcourant à
rebours le suggestif itinéraire.
