Les PEUGEOT 208 WRX à l'attaque de
l'arène d'Hockenheim
Pour la deuxième manche du Championnat du Monde FIA de rallycross,
les PEUGEOT 208 WRX partent à la conquête du stadium surchauffé
d'Hockenheim (Allemagne). Leurs pilotes y viseront la victoire et tenteront de faire chavirer à
nouveau le cœur des 75 000 spectateurs massés pour assister à l'épreuve inaugurale du
prestigieux Championnat DTM.

Après le succès de l'an passé, l’énergique peloton du Championnat du monde de rallycross
partagera à nouveau la vedette avec le championnat de voitures de tourisme, le DTM, à l'occasion
de la course d'Hockenheim. Le planning habituel s'en trouve modifié.

Tracée au cœur du célèbre stadium, la piste de rallycross emprunte la partie finale du circuit
asphalte sur lequel courent les voitures de DTM. Deux portions en terre y sont ajoutées. La
première d'entre elles, qui avait posé quelques soucis l'an passé, a été revue. La piste fait bien 1,24
km.

En 2015, les Peugeot 208 WRX avaient affiché un beau potentiel sur la piste allemande. Quoique
qualifié 12e, Timmy Hansen avait tout de même signé son deuxième podium consécutif de la
saison.

Parallèlement à Sébastien Loeb et Timmy Hansen engagés par le Team Peugeot Hansen, Davy
Jeanney et Kevin Hansen défendront les couleurs de la Peugeot Hansen Academy.

« Le bilan de la course du Portugal a été plutôt mitigé. Nous avons donc pris le temps d'analyser notre course
et nous sommes résolus à en tirer les enseignements pour Hockenheim. Avec la PEUGEOT 208 WRX, nous
avons une base vraiment excellente. Il nous faut juste réunir tous les paramètres ensemble au bon moment.
Nous sommes très motivés. En cas de pluie, comme au Portugal, nous serons davantage prêts à affronter ces
conditions. Nous espérons que la préparation de la piste, cette année, permettra d'utiliser le tracé prévu. Nous
sommes impatients de revenir dans le stadium et déterminés à y briller devant des tribunes bondées. En
2015, les spectateurs étaient tellement enthousiastes qu'ils s'étaient levés pour applaudir. Je suis certain
qu'ils sauront à nouveau apprécier à quel point le Rallycross est spectaculaire ! »

« Hockenheim est un circuit mythique. Je trouve sympa de pouvoir évoluer en même temps que le DTM. Ça
promet une grosse ambiance côté spectateurs. Plus on peut évoluer devant un large public, mieux c'est.
Hockenheim n'est pas très loin de l'Alsace, il devrait donc y avoir beaucoup d'amis et de fans qui vont faire le
déplacement. Je suis impatient de disputer cette deuxième manche de la saison. La première course au
Portugal était plutôt sympa mais le circuit est assez atypique, cette course va donc me donner l'occasion de
m'étalonner sur une autre configuration. Je suis confiant de parvenir à mieux optimiser la voiture en
Allemagne. »

« Je connais bien le site de Hockenheim pour y avoir gagné en monoplace. C'est un endroit historique et courir
devant des tribunes aussi remplies est une expérience vraiment spéciale. Le circuit de rallycross offre un profil
toutefois très différent avec une partie terre qui nécessite une approche assez agressive. C'est un défi
spécifique qu'il faut aborder l'esprit ouvert. Pour notre part, pilotes, ingénieurs et mécaniciens, nous sommes
bien décidés à renouer à Hockenheim avec le niveau de performance qui nous a permis de gagner le titre
mondial par équipe, l'an dernier. »

Les épreuves de rallycross se disputent sur des tracés mixtes, 60% terre et 40% asphalte. Ils sont longs
d’environ 1 kilomètre et parfois parsemés de sauts. Les pilotes sont progressivement éliminés au cours du
week-end et seuls les six compétiteurs les plus rapides et les plus téméraires ont la possibilité de se battre

Four PEUGEOT 208 WRXs for Hockenheim
Stadium action!
Round two of the 2016 FIA World Rallycross Championship will see four
PEUGEOT 208 WRXs co-star in the action around a bespoke track laid out
in the famous Hockenheim Stadium, Germany. All four drivers are targeting the top step of
the podium in a bid to earn the favours of the 75,000-strong crowd which is expected to turn
out for the show that shares the weekend’s bill with the opening clash of the 2016 DTM.

Following the success of last year’s visit to Germany, world rallycross’s high-octane field is to
share the bill once more with the DTM’s touring cars for another showdown at Hockenheim. A
certain number of adjustments have been made to the usual WRX timetable.

The 1.24km rallycross track in the heart of Hockenheim’s infamous Stadium section will
incorporate the final part of the asphalt circuit used by the DTM cars. Two dirt portions have been
added, the first of which has been revised following concerns in 2015.

The 2015 race saw the Peugeot 208 WRXs showcase their potential when Timmy Hansen secured

a second straight podium finish despite qualifying in 12 position.

Sébastien Loeb and Timmy Hansen will defend the colours of Team Peugeot Hansen, while Davy
Jeanney and Kevin Hansen have been entered by the Peugeot Hansen Academy.

second round. I enjoyed my first experience of rallycross in Portugal but the track was a little atypical, so this
race will give me a chance to see how I compare with the others in a different context. I am confident I will be
able to make more of the car’s potential in Germany.”

“I know Hockenheim well because I won a single-seater race there once. It’s a venue that is steeped in motor
racing history and competing there in front of packed grandstands is always something special. The
rallycross track is quite different from what we usually see and the gravel section calls for a fairly aggressive
driving style, so you need to take that into account in the way you approach the weekend. Along with the
other drivers, as well as all the engineers and mechanics, we are intent on reproducing the sort of form that
helped us to win the Teams’ title in 2015.”
