This wild, 20 km long (32 miles), high altitude glacier is only accessible in winter with snowshoes or skis or with crampons in the summer. Trekkers will start from the Aiguille du Midi, at an altitude of 3842 m (12602 Ft). Three magic hiking days with our professional guides through amazing landscapes, from sunrise to starlight. You will overnight in two high altitude mountain huts. The course is not technically difficult. PROGRAMME DAY 1: CHAMONIX 6 AIGUILLE DU MIDI - REFUGE DU REQUIN The first step in your journey is to hike down the first part of the Vallée Blanche called the Glacier du Géant, up to the Requin hut, along the foot of the Tacul, in the very heart of Mont-Blanc range. After the picnic lunch, you will cross the glacier “Séracs” area. Your next over night will be at the Requin hut, at 2516m. Hiking time: 4 to 5 hrs DAY 2: REFUGE DU REQUIN - MONTENVERS Today, you will continue to the end of the Vallée Blanche on the part of the glacier called Mer de Glace. Then a little insight on the Leschaux Glacier to enjoy the dramatic view on the famous Grandes Jorasses, the Aiguille Verte, and the Couvercle hut. Picnic lunch at the crossing of the Mer de Glace”and Leschaux Glacier. You will return to Chamonix with the mountain train of Montenvers. Hiking time : 4 to 5 hrs Guides and leaders may have to adapt program and hiking route to weather/ terrain conditions and according to group hiking skills. FURTHER INFORMATIONS DIFFICULTY No specific snowshoeing technique required. Hiking and/or snowshoeing experience recommended. We carry our personal belongings in our day-pack. GUIDING POLICY Each mountain guide leads group of 3(min) to 6 people (max). The Compagnie des Guides de Chamonix's guiding policy is one of the most restrictive in the mountain guiding industry. Repatriation insurance is mandatory. Cancellation insurance is highly recommended. INSURANCE Mountain professionals working as guides are self-employed and are individually covered under a professional liability insurance contract (from the French Mountain Guiding Association (SNGM)).The Voyages Department of the Compagnie des Guides is insured under a tour operator professional liability contract (MMA IARD) : We also provide optional insurance contracts for repatriation and trip cancellation. Each trip participant must have personal repatriation insurance. We strongly advise you purchase cancellation insurance. We also advise you purchase personal ski insurance (ie. “Carte neige”).
