Winter bivouac in the Mont-Blanc region

Join us for a memorable winter overnight stay in the great alpine outdoors !
An opportunity to spend a week-end in a secret place, just next to Mont-Blanc. You will learn and master all
winter camping basics, including:
- Setting up winter-adapted tepee tents
- Dealing with cold and learning simple protection techniques
- Making a fire in winter. Choosing wood and learning tricks
- Finding water and making it suitable for drinking
- Preparing meals in a winter outdoor environment
- Orienting yourself and practicing using orientation devices
It is an ideal way to train and prepare for multi-day winter treks, such as crossing the high alpine plateaux
of the Vercors range, or any winter snowshoe trek in Nordic countries.
The Route
Day 1 : Setting up our camp - Plaine Joux
We meet in front of Compagnie des Guides in Chamonix, and drive to the hamlet of Plaine Joux. After
dispatching our equipment on the pulkas, we prepare for our snowshoe hike and reach our campsite for the
night. We set up the camp paying attention to all the details necessary to spend a comfortable night out. In the
evening we continue our Nordic adventure and discover the surrounding environment during a short snowshoe
hike, before diving in our sleeping bags for a night near the wood stove in our comfortable tent.
Day 2 : Les Ayeres – Packing up the camp
It is hard to leave our cosy sleeping bags! After eating a hearty breakfast we head out for a light packed
snowshoe hike towards the stone-built mountain hamlet of Les Ayeres. The setting offers one of the most
remarkable showshoe terrain in the area. Later in the afternoon we pack up our camp and slowly head back
down to Plaine Joux. We are back in Chamonix around 16h.
Guides and leaders may have to adapt program and hiking route to weather/terrain conditions and according to
group hiking skills.

Difficulty : As it is physically more demanding, this 2-day and overnight tour is designed for fit hikers who
already have some snowshoeing and/or summer hiking experience.
Guiding : Each mountain leader guides groups of 4 (min) to 8 people (max). The Compagnie des Guides de
Chamonix's guiding policy is one of the most restrictive in the mountain guiding industry.
Accommodation : One night under tent.
Equipment : See attached list.
Meeting place : 9H00 am at the Compagnie des Guides de Chamonix (190, place de l'église, 74400 Chamonix).
2017 Winter Dates : Departure 2 weekend of January and 2 others in March. January 7th, and the 28th, March
11th and the 18th.
2017 Winter Price : 200€ per person (groups starts at 6).
Price for a group of 4 to 5 participants : 250€ per person.
