En dépit d’une année marquée par la récession économique, nous sommes heureux

In a year that brought us economic challenges, we are delighted with
the results of our 2008–2009 Annual Fund Campaign. The generosity

Je suis fier de partager quelques-unes des réalisations qui ont pu être accomplies
dans tous ces domaines grâce à vos dons :
• La salle de classe 202 a été convertie en laboratoire de mathématiques.
• Un espace privé pour l’orthophoniste a été créé à Arlington.
• L’école a fait l’achat de son premier Smartboard.
• Notre programme d’enrichissement scolaire n’a cessé d’offrir tout au cours
de l’année des réunions, des ateliers et des spectacles professionnels pour les
élèves de la maternelle à la terminale.
Une fois encore, c’est notre Fonds Annuel qui permet de développer ces programmes et d’effectuer les rénovations nécessaires afin d’offrir le meilleur de
l’école aux générations actuelles et futures

I am proud to share a few achievements in all of these areas thanks
to your donations:
• Classroom 202 was converted into a state of the art Math Lab;
• A private space for a reading specialist was created at Arlington;
• ISB purchased its first Smartboard;
• Our Enrichment program offered a year of assemblies,
workshops, and professional productions for PreK-12.
Again, our Annual Fund campaign allows us to develop these new
programs and make appropriate updates so we can offer the best of
ISB to present and future generations.
To all the dedicated families and friends listed in this Annual Report,

Our Exceptional IB and French Bac
Results For 2009...
Baccalauréat International 2009: 100% succès
International Baccalaureate 2009:
100% success!
La moyenne de nos élèves est de 34 points, alors qu’elle n’est que
de 30 dans le monde. 85% de nos élèves ont ainsi obtenu un score
supérieur à la moyenne mondiale.
A l’échelle mondiale, 18.5% des candidats obtiennent un score de
36 ou plus. A l’EIB, 43% de nos élèves obtiennent au minimum ce score.
De même, moins de 30% de tous les candidats obtiennent un score
équivalent ou supérieur à notre moyenne.
Notre meilleur score n’est atteint par 200 candidats dans le monde, ce
qui représente 0,66% des candidats. (Le score minimum pour obtenir
le diplôme est de 24 points.)
Bac français 2009: 100% de réussite...90% avec mention
2 Mentions Très Bien (moyenne supérieure à 16/20). 3 Mentions
Bien (moyenne supérieure à 14/20). 2 Mentions Assez Bien (moyenne
supérieure à 12/20). C’est véritablement un très beau palmarès.
Bravo aux élèves et merci aux enseignants ! Bonne continuation aux
étudiants dans la poursuite de leurs études supérieures.
Our average score was 34 points, while the worldwide
average was 30. Fewer than 30% of IB candidates
worldwide achieved a 34. 85% of our students achieved
30 or above.
Worldwide, 18.5% of diploma candidates attained a
score of 36 or higher. At ISB, 43% of our students
achieved this level. The top score at ISB was achieved
by 200 students worldwide, which represents 0.66%
of all candidates. (The minimum score to receive the
diploma is 24.)
French Baccalaureate 2009:

Two students with summa cum laude (average above
16/20). Three students with magna cum laude (average
above 14/20). Two students cum laude (12/20) This is
truly a great result!

“Shall We Dance?” Gala:
100% success!
Vendredi 1er mai avait lieu le Gala de bienfaisance « Shall
we dance ? » de l’EIB. Grâce au dévouement extraordinaire
de nos parents bénévoles en collaboration étroite avec le
bureau du développement, cet événement a été une grande
réussite. Une mention spéciale pour Claude Berthoux, Beth
Ann Dahan, Vera Duin and Frédérique Heissat, nos coPrésidentes du comité de Gala, d’un professionalisme et d’un
enthousiasme remarquables!
On May 1, our “Shall We Dance?” Gala & Auction
took place. With the commitment of volunteering
parents in cooperation with the ISB Development
Office, this event was a great success! A special
“thank you” to Claude Berthoux, Beth Ann Dahan,
Vera Duin and Frédérique Heissat, our Gala
Committee co-chairs for their professionalism
and remarkable enthusiasm!
Dans un superbe décor du XVIIIe siècle, plus de 250
personnes se sont retrouvées pour partager une soirée
inoubliable. Quel plaisir de voir toutes ces dames en robes
très colorées !
La musique cubaine jouée par l’excellent groupe Obbini
Tumbao, les démonstrations de tango, samba, rumba et
surtout les leçons de danse avec le couple «Hips on fire» ont
vraiment créé une ambiance enflammée. Difficile de résister à
l’appel de la danse !!!
Les tombolas et les différentes Ventes aux enchères ont fait des
heureux et sont venues compléter les nombreuses donations
faites pendant la soirée. Toutes ces généreuses contributions
vont ainsi permettre de développer de nombreux projets pour
nos enfants.

What a wonderful sight to see all those colorful
dresses! There was also Cuban music played by the
excellent band, Obbini Tumbao with tango, samba,

The International School of Boston allocates 5% of
its budget to provide financial assistance to families,
reducing the cost of tuition for 50 students,totaling
more than $480,000 dollars during the fiscal year
2008–2009.
L’Ecole Internationale de Boston consacre 5% de son budget à l’aide
financière directe aux familles, réduisant ainsi le coût de la scolarité pour
50 élèves avec un budget total de plus de 480,000 dollars au cours de
l’exercice 2008–2009.
Cette même année, l’AEFE (Agence pour l’Enseignement Français
a l’Etranger) a accordé une aide totale d’un montant de plus de 1
million de dollars à 79 élèves de l’EIB, en augmentation de près de
73% par rapport à l’année précédente. 69 élèves français de l’EIB ont
ainsi bénéficié d’une bourse d’études et 10 élèves français de première
et terminale, préparant le baccalauréat français ont bénéficié de la
procédure dite «de prise en charge» par la collectivité nationale.
Au nom de ces élèves et de leurs familles, l’Ecole Internationale de
Boston remercie sincèrement ses partenaires, le Consulat Général de
France à Boston et l’AEFE.

“J’étais à l’EIB de 1992 à 2003 (!), dans la classe de madame Dargo
en CE1 et en CE2. Je vis maintenant à Paris où je travaille avec le
réalisateur Wes Anderson sur un film tiré du livre Fantastic Mr. Fox,
d’après Roald Dahl, que j’ai lu pour la première fois dans la classe
de madame Dargo ! Merci de lui transmettre mes plus sincères
salutations, ainsi qu’à tous les enseignants qui travaillaient à l’école

son amour et sa passion pour
la communauté. Lois a été une
véritable source d’inspiration
pour moi… sa créativité, sa
flexibilité, son organisation, son
professionnalisme, pour ne
nommer que quelques une de ses
qualités… c’est sans compter sur
ses connections avec «le monde
extérieur», celui en dehors de
l’EIB ! Bien souvent, elle venait
partager avec moi un article ou
un fait intéressant dont elle avait
pris connaissance, en rapport
avec notre mission; à savoir qu’un
jour, nous aurions à laisser partir
les enfants dans «la cour des
grands», un monde un peu plus
compliqué que celui de l’école…
Son influence solide et sa force
vont me manquer, ainsi qu’à toute
l’école élémentaire.”

“I attended ISB from 1992 to 2003
and I was in Mrs. Dargo’s class for
grades 2 and 3. I currently live in
Paris and am working for American
film director, Wes Anderson, on a film
based on a book that I first read while
I was Mrs. Dargo’s student, Fantastic
Mr. Fox, by Roald Dahl. Please pass on
my very fond regards to Mrs. Dargo
and any other teachers ‘from my time’

her connection to the big world outside of ISB! Often she
shared an article or fact she had learned that indirectly
pertained to our objective to send people out into this
