My motivation to be a member of Council / Ma

Firstly, it is challenging to participate in a large
international federation as a member of a small
association of a small country, and as a native
speaker of a small language. FIT encompasses a
variety of associations in terms of both size and
form. This variety should also be reflected in its
governance.
Secondly, I wish to transfer my 18-year long
experience with my association (PAT) to other
associations. I served PAT from the positions of
Secretary General, Member of the Auditing
Committee, Vice-President, Honorary Member
and with various responsibility areas (event
planning, public relations, training planning). I
also wish to learn from more advanced and
better organized associations and transfer best
practices to PAT. I am also interested to help
colleagues from countries where interpreters are
faced with serious difficulties.
Thirdly, with special regard to the European
continent, I wish to contribute in the
strengthening of FIT, so that it can become a
stronger player in the areas of profession selfregulation and certification as well as in its
relations with the European Union.
My vision for FIT in support of FIT’s aims and

I profoundly share FIT's principles, aims &
objectives. My vision for FIT is to contribute in its
becoming a more active federation, supportive
to small associations in terms of know-how
transfer, training and intervention when
necessary. Small associations often struggle with
lack of financial resources, which prevents them
from participating in FIT events and training
opportunities. Therefore, in these cases it is FIT
that should reach them for support. A stronger
mediation role in cases of conflicts with national
and international authorities is also desirable.

PAT is a small association of around 200
members. We are ready to support our
nominee with administrative support but
with very limited financial support, especially
given the present financial circumstances in
our country.
PAT's vision is the creation of a federation of
Greek associations. There is considerable
resistance to this by the associations
resulting in a fragmentation of our sector.
Certification is also high on our agenda and
so we wish to have an active role in the
planning of a certification tool by the
associations themselves in cooperation with
public entities. We hope that FIT's
experience might be of great help in this
respect.
