This p r o s p e c t i s l o c a t e d about 2 kilometers southsoutheast of t h e j u n c t i o n of Goldvalley and Monckton Creeks a t
an e l e v a t i o n of 2,200 f e e t on w e s t c o a s t of Vancouver I s l a n d .
The I.X.L. group c o n s i s t s of two s m a l l claims, L.M.
(L. 1694), P .?I
(L.
. 1748) and t h e I.X.L. f r a c t i o n (L.1750)
staked by P.M. Monckton i n 1937. The property was optioned t o
3aida Gold Mines, Limited and was under e x p l o r a t i o n e a r l y i n
1938. An a d i t has been d r i v e n f o r over 200 f e e t , a t a l t i t u d e
1,840 f e e t . A c r o s s c u t a d i t was d r i v e n t o g e t i n under a
-reek channel nearby t h a t p l a i n l y follows a f a u l t f i s s u r e
zone, s t r i k i n g N50 O E .
When Haida Gold Mines, Limited, began work on t h e s e claims
it was r e p o r t e d t h a t t h e f i s s u r e s on t h e property a r e l i n e d up
s i t h t h e Goldfield v e i n , one-half mile t o t h e southwest. However, Bancroft i n 1940 could n o t c o r r e l a t e t h e above f a u l t
Eissures a c r o s s an unexplored a r e a w i t h c e r t a i n t y and concluded
t h a t a s i n g l e mineral v e i n r a r e l y extends over 1,000 f e e t .
DESCRIPTION OF DEPOSITIDESCRIPTION DU GISEMENT
A s t r o n g gouge zone i n g r a n o d i o r i t e shows l i t t l e minerali z a t i o n , b u t was thought t o b e t h e c o n t i n u a t i o n (?) of t h e
G o l d f i e l d vein. This zone i s c u t t i n g a c r o s s j o i n t s t h a t s t r i k e
N 7 0 ° ~and a l s o a c r o s s a second set of j o i n t s s t r i k i n g N30°W.
The n o r t h w a l l of t h e f a u l t i s n e a r l y smooth, t h e s o u t h w a l l
i s more i r r e g u l a r .
Potassium-argon d a t i n g i n d i c a t e s Early t o Middle J u r a s s i c
a g e f o r t h e wall-rocks.
Carson (GSC Paper 68-50, p. 43)
suggested a T e r t i a r y age f o r t h e Zeballos camp gold-quartz
v e i n d e p o s i t because of an age 38 m i l l i o n y e a r s f o r t h e q u a r t z
diorite.
