This f r a c t i o n a l claim (L. 1054) i s s i t u a t e d between t h e
Spud and Goldvalley Creeks a t an e l e v a t i o n of about 2,000 f e e t
on t h e w e s t c o a s t of Vancouver I s l a n d . I n 1947 t h e ownership
t o t h e p a r t of t h e ground of B-2 F r a c t i o n (L. 1054), which
l i e s between t h e Golden Peak No. 4 (L.1032) and t h e Golden
Peak (L. 1035) h a s been t r a n s f e r r e d t o V i c t o r D. Davies of
New Westminster from t h e B r i t a n n i a Mining and Smelting Co.,
Limited.
The workings c o n s i s t of one a d i t (120 f e e t long) and a
few open-cuts above it. P r i o r t o 1945 s e v e r a l s t r i p p i n g s
were made on t h e v e i n f o r a d i s t a n c e of about 1,000 f e e t northe a s t e r l y , and between 1945 and 1949 an a d i t w a s d r i v e n from
t h e southwestern end of t h e l i n e of s t r i p p i n g f o r 120 f e e t a t
n o r t h 40 degrees e a s t . Victor D. Davies r e p o r t s t h a t 24 t o n s
of o r e was mined and t h a t most of i t was p i l e d i n t h e ore-shed.
Ten chip-rock samples taken i n September of 1945 from t h e
v e i n a t p o i n t s i n t h e d r i f t , assayed: Au from 0.06 t o 86.13 oz
p e r ton, Ag from n i l t o 23.8 oz p e r ton, Pb from n i l t o 2.2
p e r c e n t and Zn from n i l t o 1.2 p e r cent.
DESCR IPTION OF DEPOSITIDESCRIPTION DU GISEMENT
The property i s u n d e r l a i n by q u a r t z d i o r i t e . The showing
c o n s i s t s of a q u a r t z v e i n h a l f an i n c h t o f o u r inches wide,
s t r i k e s n o r t h 40 degrees e a s t and d i p s 72 t o 75 degrees southeastward, and follows a well-defined shear zone, one t o 36
inches wide. The q u a r t z c o n t a i n s s t r e a k s of s u l p h i d e s ,
c o n s i s t i n g p r i n c i p a l l y of p y r i t e and fine-grained a r s e n o p y r i t e
Narrow s h e a r s spaced about s i x inches a p a r t , run p a r a l l e l t o
t h e foot-wall of t h e v e i n s h e a r and s l i c e t h e rock f o r a s much
a s 3 f e e t i n t o t h e footwall.
Potassium-argon d a t i n g i n d i c a t e s Early t o Middle J u r a s s i c
age f o r t h e wall-rocks.
Carson (GSC Paper 68-50, p. 43)
suggested a T e r t i a r y age f o r t h e Zeballos camp gold-quartz
v e i n d e p o s i t because of a n age 38 m i l l i o n y e a r s f o r t h e q u a r t z
diorite.
