A Note from your Executive Committee
Dear Members:
You will have noticed that there has been a membership dues increase implemented for 2015. This increase was implemented,
by unanimous decision, at a special meeting of the RCNA executive called to address significant CN Journal printing cost
increases incurred when our printer of 14-years, the Sun Media Webco facility, closed its doors without notice at the end of
May of this year. Your executive diligently tried to keep costs down but during the tendering process, it was immediately
obvious that we would be faced with a very significant cost increase. Our long relationship with Webco had essentially
buffered us from the steady cost increases in the industry. In addition to the printing costs, a significant increase came in
higher post-production costs, in the form of stuffing and labelling envelopes, which had been included in the printing costs at
the Webco facility. We also needed to account for increased mailing costs as the postal rates increase in 2015. The executive
committee reluctantly was forced to increase membership dues in order to help offset a portion of these cost increases.
On a positive note, you will be seeing a significant change when you receive your copy of the CN Journal for January/
February 2015. The change to the new printing facility has allowed us to, cost effectively, change format and so deliver to you
a better, more visually appealing Journal. With the increase to a larger magazine-style format we have the flexibility to make
improvements and grow in the future. Although, the increased size means a reduced frequency (8-issues per year) it still means
that, annually, there will be a 20 percent increase in printable surface area over our previous format. We hope that this change
will add value and enhance your enjoyment of the CN Journal!

The Canadian Association for Numismatic Education
(CAFNE) is a non-profit charitable organization with a singular
purpose: the exclusive support of numismatic education for those
with interests in studying, researching and educating collectors
about the science and study of numismatics. Canadian taxpayer
