Voici le quatrième album de ce groupe italien, qui existe depuis 1988. RUNAWAY TOTEM
est un des groupes les plus originaux de ceux qui oeuvrent chez nos voisins transalpins, leur musique
étant une synthèse cohérente et réfléchie d’éléments fort divers : on pense surtout, sans aucun doute, à
Magma : rythmique obsessionnelle et syncopée, chant à la Christian Vander, plein de mystère et
porteur d’une angoisse latente, guitares agressives, tendues et tout en distorsions. Mais ces six pièces
ambitieuses rappellent aussi King Crimson et même l’école « gothique » actuelle, du fait de la
recherche d’atmosphères liées au Sacré, souvent sombres, spleenétiques, voire «sataniques». Des
nappes de synthés ou des parties d’orgue contribuent également à la création d’atmosphères
fascinantes et oniriques. Voilà un totem hautement fréquentable !

This is the fourth album of this Italian band, existing since 1988, and “Tep Zepi” is the natural
continuation of “Andromeda”, released three years ago. RUNAWAY TOTEM is one of the most
original bands from Italy, as their music is a successful combination of diverse musical elements. The
most present certainly is Magma, for obsessional, syncopated rythms, a singing inspired by Christian
Vander, full of strangeitude, mystery, and anguish sometimes, and distorted, agressive guitars. But
these six pieces may recall as well King Crimson and even the « gothic » musical movement, for the
search of sacred, religious and satanic atmospheres. Symphonic floating sounds of synths or organ also
manage to create fascinating, dreamlike atmospheres. A talented totem !
