The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ
"And when the leftover fragments were picked up, they filled twelve
wicker baskets." Today's Gospel shows us that Jesus wants to do more than
satisfy our needs. He wants to give us an experience of fullness and abundance.
He not only miraculously fed the crowd of thousands; he also provided enough to
make a mountain of leftovers. More than they needed, more than they ever
expected. That's what Jesus gave.
And it's what he continues to give us every time we receive the Eucharist.
This too is a miraculous meal. Like the multiplication of "five loaves and two fish,"
Jesus turns something small-bread and wine--into something abundant and
overflowing: his body, blood, soul, and divinity.
Through this sacrament we experience the gift of union with Jesus and
the resulting graces that come from encountering him. Just like the crowds
gathered that day in a deserted place, we come to Jesus with our emptiness-our
needs, our weaknesses, ourfears-and he fills us up until we too are "satisfied."
The prayer after Communion on today's feast of the Most Holy Body and
Blood of Christ reminds us that what we experience at Mass is a foretaste of that
ultimate satisfaction that we will experience in heaven: "Grant, 0 Lord, we pray,
that we may delight for all eternity in that share in your divine life, which is
foreshadowed in the present age by our reception of your precious Body and
Blood." Receiving the Lord in the Eucharist is a momentous miracle and an
earthly glimpse into heaven. May today's celebration help remind us toJbe ever
grateful for this most glorious gift.

ou même de façon professionnelle, cela peut paraître anodin.

C'est pourtant souvent le moment de d'échanges en profondeur et même de
confidences car nous sommes alors unis dans une même réalité de vie. Il se
crée alors possiblement des liens.
Le Christ se donne dans le repas de l'Eucharistie. C'est le pain de l'humain en
route selon l'expression de la séquence de la messe d'aujourd'hui.
La fête du Saint Sacrement nous propose un temps de prière, d'union commune
avec Lui et de communion dans ce qu'il y a de plus intime dans la vie qui est de
devenir l'un avec l'autre et par l'Autre.
Ce geste de partage du pain et du vin, qui peut sembler banal, devient tellement
important pour Jésus qu'il est celui qui permettra aux Apôtres, aux disciples
d'Emmaùs et à d'autres, de le reconnaître. Il sera le sacrement par excellence
des chrétiens en devenant Corps et Sang du Christ.
Dans la Parole de Dieu, rapportée par Paul, le Seigneur nous dit de refaire ce
geste en mémoire de Lui.
Cette invitation demande de refaire la Dernière Cène à la suite du Christ mais
aussi de reproduire les enseignements évangéliques comme le Seigneur l'a fait
durant son séjour parmi nous.
L'évangile d'aujourd'hui nous rappelle que le Seigneur enseignait et guérissait
avant de multiplier les pains et les poissons. C'est aussi notre mission.
Vivre la fête du Corps et du Sang du Christ c'est donc accepter de nous engager
à faire de notre vie une démarche évangélique dans l'amour, la tendresse de
Dieu, la miséricorde et la compassion dont nous parle le pape François dans sa
dernière exhortation apostolique suite aux synodes sur la famille.
L'Eucharistie est le sommet de notre vie chrétienne et le don de Dieu pour la vie
du monde. C'est donc notre baptême qui prend tout son sens.
