WUHEIDA DOMINE LE « BOUSSAC » AVEC STYLE
Wuheida s’est imposée avec la manière dans le Total Prix Marcel Boussac - Critérium des
Pouliches (Groupe 1), dimanche à Chantilly.
Dabyah a pris la tête dès le départ, sous la selle de Lanfranco Dettori, avec Promise To Be
True et Body Sculpt dans son sillage. La future lauréate a navigué en épaisseur pour venir se
placer à la hanche de l’animatrice à l’entrée de la ligne droite. Dans les 150 derniers mètres,
Wuheida a très nettement pris l’ascendant sur Dabyah.
La pouliche de Godolphin remporte son premier Groupe 1 avec une courte encolure d’avance.
Promise To Be True se classe deuxième. Dabyah est proche troisième après avoir plafonné à
la fin. Senga, qui a fini très vite, décroche la quatrième place.

« La pouliche nous avait vraiment beaucoup plu lors de ses débuts à Newmarket. Nous avions
hésité à la courir à Newbury il y a deux semaines, mais le terrain était trop lourd. Cheikh
Mohammed m'a dit que si j'étais satisfait de sa condition, on pouvait tenter ce Groupe 1. Nous
avons pris notre décision la semaine dernière. La pouliche avait beaucoup progressé
physiquement depuis ses débuts. L'équipe a fait un très bon travail. C'est une grande pouliche,
très athlétique, et pour moi, c'est une pouliche d'Oaks [le Prix de Diane anglais] l'an
prochain. »

« C’est une très bonne pouliche. Elle a raté son départ et nous ne sommes pas allés très vite.
Mais elle a beaucoup de classe et il faudra la suivre l’an prochain. Elle a la puissance, la
classe et le mental. En plus, elle est facile à monter. »

« La pouliche court très bien. Elle est encore assez bébé. Pour la suite, nous allons
certainement la laisser tranquille cette année et la revoir l'année prochaine, mais nous en
discuterons. »

« Dabyah est une fille de Sepoy, qui est un étalon de vitesse. Elle a donc tenu pendant 1.500m
ici, mais il fallait tenir 1.600m, ce qui a été trop long pour elle. C'est une bonne pouliche et
elle court très bien. »

« Nous sommes très contents de la performance de la pouliche. Elle a été un peu surprise par
le rythme plus rapide que d'habitude, mais elle a fait une belle ligne droite. »

WUHEIDA DOMINATES THE « BOUSSAC » WITH STYLE
Wuheida was the classy winner of the Total Prix Marcel Boussac - Critérium des Pouliches
(Gr1), on Sunday in Chantilly.
Dabyah jumped out to set the pace with Lanfranco Dettori in the saddle, with Promise To
Be True and Body Sculpt in her wake. William Buick edged the future winner to the outside
and settled just off the flank of the pace-setter coming out of the final turn. In the final 150
meters, Wuheida confidently put Dabyah behind her.
The Godolphin filly won her first Group 1 race by a neck, with Promise to Be True second.
Dabyah was a close third, running out of steam in the final strides. Senga, who closed well
from the back, snagged fourth place.

"We were really pleased with the filly after she debuted in Newmarket. We were thinking of
running her in Newbury two weeks ago, but the ground was too heavy. Sheik Mohammed told
me that if I was pleased with her condition, we could try the Group 1. We made the decision
last week. The filly has really come on physically since she debuted – the team has done great
with with her. She’s a big filly, very athletic, and for me, she’s a filly for the Oaks next year.”

“She’s a very good filly. She missed the start and there wasn’t much pace. But she has so
much class and she’ll really be one to follow next year. She’s got a lot of force, physically and
mentally. On top of it, she’s easy to ride.”

“The filly ran very well. She’s still very green. We’ll probably put her away for this year and
see about next year, but we’ll still have to discuss it.”

« Dabyah is by Sepoy, who is a sprint sire. So we knew she would stay 1,500 meters, but we
gave 1,600 meters a try, and it turned out to be too long for her. She’s a very good filly and
she ran very well here.”

« We’re very happy with our filly’s performance. She was a little surprised by the pace, which
was a little quicker than she’s been used to, but she gave us a great stretch run.”

NATIONAL DEFENSE EN JEUNE CHAMPION
Le français National Defense a survolé le Qatar Prix Jean-Luc Lagardère (Grand Critérium)
Sponsorisé par Al Hazm (Groupe 1), dimanche à Chantilly. Le futur lauréat a pris la tête dès
le départ et il a un peu sauté le passage de route. Dans la phase finale, aucun poulain n’a pu
approcher l’animateur, qui a placé une deuxième accélération à 200 mètres de l’arrivée.
Salouen a évolué dans le sillage de National Defense. Il se classe deuxième à plus de quatre
longueurs. Whitecliffsofdover est proche troisième.
National Défense est le premier yearling acheté en France par Sun International. Ce groupe
est présidé par Ting Kong Cheng et sa sœur Danielle, qui était présente dimanche. Les Cheng
sont déjà propriétaires à Hongkong et Singapour et ils ont aussi investi dans un haras en
Australie, rachetant Eliza Park en 2013. Sun Bloodstock s’était également signalé par l’achat
de Spiritjim, lors de la vente de l’"Arc" 2015. Le cheval a couru pour les couleurs Cheng
l’"Arc", puis le Prix du Conseil de Paris (Gr2) avant d’être exporté en Australie.
National Défense a été acheté 280.000 € en août 2015 à Deauville. Il était vendu par l'écurie
des Monceaux, qui l'a co-élevé avec Meridian International SARL.

« National Défense est un cheval qui aime galoper. Il faut le laisser faire. Dans le Prix des
Chênes, il avait été battu, car un cheval était venu le couvrir dans le parcours. Ici, j'avais dit à
Pierre-Charles Boudot de laisser le cheval faire et d'aller devant. Il s'est vraiment envolé. Sa
saison s'arrête ici. Nous allons le laisser grandir et prendre de la force en vue de sa saison de
3ans. Il sera engagé dans toutes les bonnes courses qu'il pourra courir. Et j'ose espérer que l'on
puisse le rallonger. Car il n'est pas taillé comme un sprinter. »
SALOUEN (2e)

« Le gagnant a pu mener à sa guise, en imposant le rythme qu'il voulait, sans être embêté, et je
suis un peu déçu, car j'étais venu pour gagner. Il est engagé dans le Racing Post Trophy, mais
il a déjà eu une année chargée, donc nous allons d'abord voir comment il récupère. »
WHITECLIFFSOFDOVER (3e)

« Whitecliffsofdover court très bien. C’est un poulain puissant, encore peu expérimenté et
bébé. Il va encore progresser et sera mieux l'année prochaine. Il a le profil d’un miler, je ne
suis pas certain qu’il fasse plus long. Utah est lui aussi encore peu expérimenté. Il a fait une
faute dans le dernier tournant et vaut mieux que cela. On le reverra l'année prochaine. »
KONTRASTAT (4e)
Stéphane Wattel (entraîneur) :
« Kontrastat a trouvé la distance un peu longue et il est battu par meilleur. Il n'a pas trouvé le
passage tout de suite dans la ligne droite, mais il y a suffisamment de longueurs à l'arrivée
pour que nous n'ayons pas de regrets. On le reverra en 2017 sur plus court. »

NATIONAL DEFENSE THE YOUNG CHAMPION
The French National Defense flew home in the Qatar Prix Jean-Luc Lagardère (Grand
Critérium) Sponsored by Al Hazm (Group 1), on Sunday at Chantilly. The eventual winner
went straight into the lead, and jumped the road crossing. In the closing stages, none of the
other colts in the race could get near the leader, who showed a second burst of speed 200
meters from the post. Salouen travelled in behind National Defense. He finished second by
over four lengths from the winner. Whitecliffsofdover was a close third.
National Défense was the first yearling bought in France by Sun International. This group is
run by Ting Kong Cheng and his sister, Danielle, who was at the races on Sunday. The
Chengs are already owners in Hong Kong and Singapore, and they have also recently invested
in a stud in Australia, having bought Eliza Park in 2013. Sun Bloodstock were also in the
spotlight when buying Spiritjim (Galileo), at the "Arc" sale in 2015. The horse ran in the
Cheng colours in the ’"Arc", then in the Prix du Conseil de Paris (Gr2) before going out to
Australia.

“National Défense is a horse that likes to run at his own pace. You have to let him go. In the
Prix des Chênes, he was beaten when a horse came and covered him up during the race.
Today, I told Pierre-Charles Boudot to let him go on in front. He absolutely flew home. This
is where his season stops. We will give him time to grow and strengthen for his 3 year old
season. He is entered in all the big races and could well run in them. I think, and I hope, that
he will stay further. He isn't made like a sprinter.”
SALOUEN (2nd)

“The winner went off on an easy lead, and set the pace he wanted with no one to bother him. I
am a bit disappointed as we came here to win. He is entered in the Racing Post Trophy, but
he's already had a busy year, so we'll see how he comes out of this first.”
WHITECLIFFSOFDOVER (3rd)
Aidan O’Brien (trainer) :
“Whitecliffsofdover ran very well. He is a powerful colt, who still lacks experience and is
immature. He will improve again and should be better next year. He has the profile of a mile
rand I'm not sure he will stay further than that. Utah also lacks experience. He took a false
step in the turn and should have finished better than he did. He'll be back next year.”
KONTRASTAT (4th)
Stéphane Wattel (trainer) :
“Kontrastat found the trip a bit long and was beaten by better horses than him. He didn't find a
gap straight away when he came into the straight, but he had enough time once he got out that
it's not an excuse. He'll be back in 2017 over a shorter trip.”
