Children’s Fitness Tax Credit
Crédit d’impôte pour la condition
physique des enfants
Many City of Ottawa Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services programs may be eligible
for the Children’s Fitness Tax Credit. The Children’s Fitness Tax Credit is a federal,
non‑refundable, personal tax credit that lets parents claim up to $500 per year for eligible
fitness expenses paid for each child who is under 16 years of age at the beginning of
the year in which the expenses are paid.
If a child qualifies for the disability tax credit, parents can claim up to $500 per year
in eligible fitness expenses paid for the child who is under 18 years of age at the
beginning of the year. Also, if at least $100 in eligible fitness expenses has been paid for
the child, an additional amount of $500 can be added to the eligible fitness expenses
actually incurred.
Fees paid by parents must relate to the cost of a facility membership or registration in
an eligible physical activity program. Your receipt will indicate whether the program that
your child is registered in is eligible (see receipt wording).
For more information on this credit, please see the Canada Revenue Agency website
www.cra.gc.ca/fitness. The authority to determine whether any claim for a credit will be
approved rests with the CRA. The City of Ottawa disclaims any responsibility or liability
in connection with any determination of the CRA.

when you register for any fitness program you will be asked to complete a PAR-Q

your readiness for physical activity. You must be 16 or older to participate in the fitness
programs at the St-Laurent Complex.

Aquatic Programs
Welcome to the
St-Laurent Pool!
Preschool – Parented
We invite parents to take an active role in their child’s
lessons. Listed below are upcoming events and a few
important policies.
Parents’ Days
Parents’ Days allow parents the opportunity to participate
in their child’s class. Parents wishing to join in their child’s
class are asked to wear bathing suits. If parents do not
wish to get wet, they may watch their child’s class from
the deck area. Those parents are asked to remove their
socks and shoes as street shoes are not permitted on
the pool deck. Parents’ Days are offered in each session.
Observation of Classes
St-Laurent swimming instructors encourage parents to
watch their child’s progress through the levels. We
encourage all observers to watch from the pool deck or
the viewing area in the lobby. Please remove your shoes
on deck.
Starfish (4-12 months)
Babies and their caregivers work on getting wet,
buoyancy and movement, front, back and vertical
position in the water, and shallow water entries
and exits.
Duck (12-24 months)
Babies and their caregivers work on rhythmic
breathing, moving forward and backward, front and
back float with recovery, and shallow water entries
and exits.

front and back floats and glides, jumping into
chest‑deep water with assistance, kicking on front
and front swim.
Progress Reports
If your child has been in lessons before, please bring
their progress card to their new instructor. If you are
unable to attend the last class, “no-show” progress cards
will be available to be picked up. All prices are prorated
