Biron Borough Councillor, Côte-de-Liesse District Borough Councillor, Norman-McLaren District Message from the Mayor of Saint-Laurent Dear fellow citizens of Saint-Laurent, As you receive this fall-winter edition of L’Agenda, we will be nearing the end of an exceptional summer season during which the fabulous weather made it possible for Saint-Laurent families to fully benefit from all of the amenities that are available to them. Throughout the summer, children’s laughter resonated at the Borough’s aquatic facilities and parks, balls were lobbed across tennis nets, and countless shows were presented during the Summer Celebrations. Walking along our streets, the joie de vivre shared by local families was palpable. Now that the magical fall season is emerging on the horizon, there is no reason for us to not keep up the momentum! As you are probably already planning family activities for the new school season, we are happy to present to you the cultural, sports and recreation program offered right here in Saint-Laurent. It is important to my colleagues on Council and I that no group is left out, whether families, seniors or individuals living with disabilities. This is why, from one year to the next, our teams spare no efforts to improve our service supply by adding new activities that appeal to all tastes. This is evident in the significant increase in the number of registrations and the consistent use of our venues. The imminent opening of our Bibliothèque du Boisé, in 2013, and of the Sports Complex the following year, will most certainly satisfy growing demand and help to channel our Borough’s burgeoning energy! The library is already taking shape and emerging as a modern venue that will serve as a hub in our community. While it is being built, we are preparing countless services and activities that you will find there under a single roof. It is in fact the culmination of an exceptional project that we are looking forward to unveiling next year. We wish you a wonderful fall-winter season with your families and loved ones! Alan DeSousa, FCA Mayor of Saint-Laurent 3 Message from the Acting Director Ladies and gentlemen, While summer continues to promise even more good weather, we are proud to present to you our fall-winter program to help you plan your family activities for the coming months. Loyal to its mission, the Borough and its numerous partners are once again offering you a top-quality program that melds dynamism with professionalism. Do not hesitate to peruse the myriad activities offered at the Bibliothèque du Vieux Saint-Laurent, and the cultural and recreational activities that are consistently found at the Centre des loisirs. Furthermore, if you want to stay in shape, you will certainly find an opportunity to stretch your legs at one of our many sports activities. In light of the success of our online registration service, we are pleased to complete the cycle by offering it to you for the fall activities. This registration method will enable you to sign up, online, for an extensive assortment of activities from the comfort of your home, thereby saving you a trip. See Page 7 for more information. Since our team is also dedicated to social development, I would like to take this opportunity to announce the launch of a new Integrated Urban Revitalization program being carried out in the Chameran sector, which is one of our sectors that was identified for action. Like at Place Benoit, where a similar program has been in progress for several years now, this will strive, in a dynamic manner, to improve quality of life in the area with unifying activities that will rely on several stakeholders as well as on neighbourhood residents. In closing, I would like to thank all of our volunteers in Saint-Laurent whose involvement makes activity programs such as these possible. They spare no effort to make our community a wonderful place. They constitute a major link in our chain of activities, and for this reason, they deserve all of our recognition for a job well done! We wish you an excellent new school year and we hope to see you at one of the activities!
