Potentially one of the most effective night-fighters for the Luftwaffe, the
Heinkel He219 "Uhu" (eagle owl) was doomed by political misjudgments
and maltreatment. Started as a private venture study of the firm, the
He219 incorporated a number of advanced features such as pressurized
crew compartment, cockpit positioned at the extreme nose for excellent
visibility, landing gear of tricycle configuration, etc. The He219 was also
the world's first operational aircraft to be equipped with ejector seats. Powered by two Daimler-Benz DB603 engines, this aircraft with a long and
slender fuselage displayed its combat-worthiness against allied bombers
in nocturnal operations during the final period of the conflict. Several ver-
sions were produced starting with the He219A-0 in 1942, and among
them, the He219A-7 was the final and the most sophisticated version. It is
equipped with larger, improved super charger intakes for its DB603G engines. Coupled with a FuG220 radar, two dorsal 30mm canons dubbed
"Schrage Musik" plus two each 20 or 30mm canons in the wing-roots and
the ventral tray enhanced A-7's capability as a high altitude night-fighter.
Although the total number of production was only 268 until the end of the
war, the Heinkel He219 Uhu gained noteworthy results against allied airforces and was supposed to be the best among the Luftwaffe's reciprocating engined night-fighters.
Moglicherweise einerderwirksamsten Nachtjager der Luftwaffe, die Heinkel He219 "Uhu", wurde durch politische Fehlentscheidungen und Geringschatzung ins Abseits gebracht. Als ein Forschungsaufirag auf eigene Kosten der Firma gestartet, enthielt die He21 9 eine Reihe fortschrittlicher Merkmale wie eine Druckkabine fiir die Mannschaft, ein zur Optimierung der Sicht in die auBerste Nasenspitze versetztes Kockpit, ein
Dreibein-Fahrwerk und ahnliches. Angetrieben von zwei Daimler-Benz
DB603 Motoren zeigte dieses Flugzeug mil dem langen, schlanken
Rumpf in der SchluBphase des Kriegs seine Kampfqualitaten bei Nachtoperationen gegen Alliierte Bomber. Es wurden verschiedene Versionen
gebaut, beginnend bei der He21 9A-0 im Jahre 1 942, und darunter war die
He21 9A-7 die letzte und am weitesten entwickelte Version. Sie war ausgerustet mil grb'Beren, verbesserten Kompressor-Lufteinlassen fiir ihre
DB603G Motore. In Verbindung mit einem FuG220 Radar sorgten zwei
30mm Kanonen mit dem Spitznamen "Schrage Musik" auf dem Riicken
und je zwei 20 Oder 30mm Kanonen in der Flugelwurzel und der Bodenwanne ftir das Leistungsvermb'gen der A7 als Nachtjager fiir groBe Hohen. Obwohl bis zum Ende des Krieges nur eine Stiickzahl von 268 produziert wurde, erzielte die Heinkel He219 Uhu bemerkenswerte Erfolge
gegen die Alliierte Luftwaffe, und man sagte ihr nach, sie sei der beste
unter den mit Kolbenmotoren ausgestatteten Nachtjagern der Luftwaffe
gewesen.

errones et le desinteressement des politiciens. Initialement developpe sur
les fonds propres de Heinkel, le He219 integral! de nombreuses
innovations techniques, telles un poste de pilotage pressurise installe
dans la pointe avant, un train d'atterrissage tricycle, etc. Le He219 fut
egalement le premier appareil operationnel au monde dote de sieges
ejectables. Heinkel proposa dans un premier temps I'appareil comme
chasseur lourd a long rayon d'action. Propulse par deux moteurs Daimler
Benz DB603, le He219 au long et fin fuselage fut d'une grande efficacite
contre les raids de bombardiers allies nocturnes, tout a la fin de la 26™
G.M. Plusieurs versions en furent produites en commencant par le
He219A-0 en 1942 jusqu' au plus sophistique He219A-7. Ce dernier, un
chasseur de nuit a haute altitude, etait equipe d'admissions d'air plus
grandes et ameliorees pour ses moteurs DB603G. II disposait de deux
canons de 30mm installes en oblique dans le fuselage, surnommes
"Schrage Musik" couples au radar FuG220 ainsi que de canons de 20 ou
30mm dans les emplantures d'ailes et une gondole ventrale. Bien que le
total des appareils produits a la fin de la guerre ne depasse pas 268
exemplaires, le Heinkel He219 Uhu remporta des resultats notables
contre les bombardiers allies et se tailla la reputation de meilleur chasseur
de nuit allemand de la Luftwaffe.

PAINTING THE HEINKEL He219A-7
The Heinkel He219A-7 was painted in overall
light bluish gray and mottled with a gray violet.
The fuselage sides/undersurface and tail fin
were sometimes painted in matt black. Refer
to pages 9 & 10 and box artwork for
camouflage scheme. Detail painting is called
out during construction and should be done at
that time.

blaulich-grau gestrichen und mil grauvioletten
Flecken versehen. Die Rumpfseiten und-unterseite einschlieBlich Hohenleitwerk waren
manchmal mattschwarz lackiert. Beachten

Sie fur die Tarnbemalung die Seiten 9 und 10
sowie den Kunstdruck auf der Schachtel. Die
Detailbemalung ist wahrend des Zusammenbaus beschrieben und sollte dort vorgenommen werden.
DECORATION DU HEINKEL He219A-7
Le Heinkel He219A-7 etait entierement peint
en gris bleute clair avec un mouchetis gris
violace. Les surfaces inferieures, les flancs du
fuselage et les derives etaient parfois peints
noir mat. Pour le schema de camouflage, se
reporter aux pages 9 et 10 et aux illustrations
de la boite. La peinture des details doit
s'effectuer durant la construction.

2. Plongez la decalcomanie dans de I'eau
tiede pendant 10 secondes environ et poser
sur un linge propre.
3. Retenez la feuille de protection par le cote
et glissez la decalcomanie sur le modele
reduit.
4. Placez la decalcomanie a I'endroit voulu en
la mouillant avec un de vos doigts.
5. Pressez doucement la decalcomanie avec
un tissu doux jusqu'a ce que I'eau en exces et
les bulles aient disparu.

DECAL APPLICATION
1. Cut off deoal from sheet.
2. Dip the decal in tepid water for about 10
sec. and place on a clean cloth.
3. Hold the backing sheet edge and slide decal onto the model.
4. Move decal into position by wetting decal
*ith finger.
5. Press decal gently down with a soft cloth un:: excess water and air bubbles are gone.
