Résumé
La recherche entamée et présentée ici sous l’intitulé, « Architecture cultuelle chrétienne et
conquête coloniale, Oran 1831 -1913 », s’inscrit dans l’étude générale de l’architecture
cultuelle chrétienne réalisée en situation coloniale. Notre objectif a été d’apporter quelques
éléments de réponse à des questions relatives à la typologie architecturale des églises
construites par la France en Algérie et, plus particulièrement, à Oran.
Des questionnements essentiels ont été le socle de notre réflexion : s’agit-il d’une architecture
avatar ou d’une architecture propre à la colonie ? Ou, autrement dit, les églises romanobyzantines sont-elles de parfaites répliques métropolitaines ou le résultat in situ du contexte
colonial de l’époque ? Pourquoi n’y avait-il pas de cathédrale gothique et, encore moins, de
cathédrale mauresque à Oran alors que les archives montrent l’existence d’un projet
mauresque annulé ?
Ainsi, à l’aide des archives conservées dans le diocèse d’Oran et accessibles pour la première
fois, nous avons pu interroger les processus de construction de deux cathédrales : Saint-Louis
et le Sacré-Cœur. L’approche pluridisciplinaire, à l’appui de nos analyses architecturales
effectuées dans les deux édifices étudiés, nous a permis de mettre en évidence les influences
qui se sont exercées sur l’architecture de ces ouvrages, tout au long de leur existence depuis la
(ou les) période(s) coloniale(s).
Nous avons observé que ces influences accumulées dans le temps et l’espace apparaissent
comme résultantes de dualités Pouvoir colonial/Eglise catholique et Tradition/Modernité.

‫إن البحث املقدم ىنا حتت عنوان "اهلندسة املعمارية الدينية املسيحية و الغزو االستعماري‪ ،‬وىران ‪ "1118-1381‬يدخل يف‬
‫إطار دراسة عامة للهندسة املعمارية الدينية املسيحية املنجزة يف الفرتة االستعمارية‪ .‬إننا هندف من خالل ىذا العمل إىل تقدمي‬
‫أجوبة لبعض األسئلة املرتبطة بنمطية اهلندسة املعمارية للكنائس اليت شيدهتا فرنسا يف اجلزائر و باألخص يف وىران‪.‬‬
‫لقد متحور حبثنا حول العديد من التساؤالت ‪ :‬ىل يتعلق األمر هبندسة عمرانية متحولة أو ىندسة معمارية خاصة باملستعمر؟ أو‪،‬‬
‫بتعبري أخر‪ ،‬ىل جتسد الكنائس الرومانو‪ -‬بيزنطية مناذج فرنسية بشكل تام أو ىي نتيجة‪ ،‬يف املوقع‪ ،‬للسياق االستعماري يف تلك‬
‫الفرتة؟ ملاذا ال توجد كاتدرائيات قوطية‪ ،‬أو أكثر من ذلك ملاذا ال توجد كاتيدرائيات مورسكية يف وىران و ذلك بالرغم من أن‬
‫األرشيف يكشف عن وجود مشروع مورسكي مت إلغاءه؟‬
‫ىكذا‪ ،‬و باالستعانة باألرشيف املوجود يف أبرشية وىران‪ ،‬و اليت كان باإلمكان اإلطالع عليو ألول مرة ‪ ،‬استطعنا استجواب‬
‫سريورة بناء كاتدرائيتني اثنتني‪ :‬القديس لويس و ساكري – كور (‪ .(Sacré- Cœur‬لقد مسحت لنا املقاربة املتعددة‬
‫التخصصات‪ ،‬اليت تبنيناىا يف دعم حتليالتنا املعمارية املنجزة يف املعلمني املدروسني‪ ،‬بإظهار التأثريات اليت طرأت على اهلندسة‬
‫املعمارية هلذين العمليني الفنيني و ذلك طيلة و جودمها يف الفرتة أو الفرتات االستعمارية ‪.‬‬
‫لقد الحظنا أن ىذه التأثريات املرتاكمة يف الزمن و يف اجملال تبدو كنتيجة عن الثنائية املتقابلة سلطة استعمارية‪/‬كنيسة كاثوليكية و‬
‫تقليد‪/‬عصرنة‪.‬‬

Abstract
The presented research here entitled:"Religious Christian Architecture and the Colonial
Conquest, Oran 1831-1913", is part of the general study of the religious Christian architecture
carried out in the colonial situation. Our objective was to bring about some elements of
answer to the issues related to the architectural typology of the churches built by France in
Algeria and more particularly the ones in Oran.
Essential questionings have been the base of our thinking: Is it about a copied architecture or
about architecture peculiar to the colony? Or, in other words are the Romano Byzantine
churches the perfect metropolitan answers or the In situ result of the colonial context of that
time? Why was not there a Gothic cathedral and even less, a Moresque cathedral in Oran
while the archives show the existence of a cancelled Moresque Project?
Thus, with the help of the kept archives of the diocese of Oran and accessible for the first
time, we were able to question the building processes of two cathedrals: The Saint Louis and
the Sacré Coeur cathedrals. The multidisciplinary approach, in support of our architectural
analyses carried out in the two studied edifices, enabled us to highlight the influences that
were practiced on the architecture of these works throughout their existence since the colonial
period(s).
We have observed that these accumulated influences in time and space seem like the results of
the dualities: Colonial Power/Catholic Church and Tradition/Modernity.
