Je tiens à vous faire part de mon expérience en tant que décrocheuse qui
a fait un retour sur les bancs d’école à l’âge de trente-huit (38) ans.
After completing my secondary, I
chose to continue my schooling by
doing a trade as a technical pharmacy assistant. It was my dream
to come back home on the coast
and work. This trade only lasting 14
months, contains many classes that
are hands-on. You learn about customer service, the whole process
of entering and preparing prescriptions. You also learn all about medication. Finishing my work term in November 2010, I started working part time
the following Monday. With the education I had from trade school, I was even
able to teach some of the technicians that have been there for many years
some new work methods. I’ve achieved what I set out to do, by now working
at the CSSSBCN.

Détentrice d’un DES, j’ai réalisé que même avec ce diplôme il m’était
très difficile de me trouver un emploi alors j’ai décidé d’aller me chercher
une formation en secrétariat au Centre de Formation Professionnel A.W.
Gagné de Sept-Iles.
Il y a de cela bientôt neuf (9) ans que j’ai terminé ma formation et que
je suis sur le marché du travail. Si je n’avais pas cette formation je ne
suis pas sûre que j’aurais un emploi stable. C’est cette formation qui m’a
permis d’avoir l’emploi que j’ai en ce moment et que j’adore.
J’encourage tous les décrocheurs et décrocheuses à aller ce chercher
une Formation Professionnelle vous serez tellement fière de ce que vous
aurez accompli et vous aurez beaucoup moins de difficulté à vous intégré
au marché du travail.
D’une décrocheuse qui est très fière de ce qu’elle a accompli et de ce
qu’elle fait comme travail aujourd’hui et qui vous encourage à faire la
même chose.
Geneviève Nadeau
My name is Chelsey Driscoll, I graduated in 2006 from St.Augustine School.
After graduating from highschool I wanted to move to Lennoxville with my
sister to attend Champlain Regional College. During my second semester I
decided that it wasn’t for me, so I finished off my year and during the summer
I realized I wanted to take the Welding & Fitting program at Lennoxville Vocational Training Center. I loved the program and the people I was there with. I
walked into the course knowing nothing about welding and even some names
of the tools I used.This was a big challenge for me but a challenge I am very
proud I have succeeded. I was the
only woman in my class along with
seventeen men. After I got my diploma and CWB tickets for Welding
I looked for work but due to the
recession I was unable to find any.
Two years after I finished my Welding & Fitting program I decided
again to take another trade, this
time Accounting. I am attending
Accouting in Lourdes de Blanc-Sablon, I started November 2010 and
will be finishing May 2012.
Chelsey Driscoll
In 1990 I completed a Secretarial
training through International Correspondence School. I found that it
has helped me immensely with my
secretary job at Mountain Ridge.
My course taught me competencies
that allowed me to assume my professional role as a school secretary
and assistance to our school director and teachers.

Je m’appelle Steven Beaudoin, j’ai 33 ans et je suis originaire de Lourdes-de-Blanc-Sablon. J’ai obtenu mon diplôme d’études secondaires en 1997, et sans savoir dans quel domaine m’orienter j’ai décidé de me lancer sur
le marché du travail. J’ai travaillé comme aide-pêcheur, journalier et paysagiste pendant plusieurs années lorsque
j’ai décidé de retourner aux études. C’est en 2004 que j’ai entrepris des démarches pour suivre une formation
professionnelle comme Monteur de lignes au Centre de formation en Montage de lignes à Saint-Henri, Lévis.
Cette formation m’a beaucoup plu! Elle m’a donnée tous les outils nécessaires pour entreprendre une carrière
prometteuse. En ce moment, je travaille avec une firme de sous-traitance pour Hydro-Québec.

the Lennoxville Vocational Training
Centre after completing my High
School in Netagamiou / Chevery. I
enjoyed my training and very happy
about returning to the Coast and
have been working as a Licensed
Practical Nurse for the Health Center for five years in Blanc Sablon
and Harrington.

Je suis maintenant un employé
d’Hydro Québec. Mon cours de
mécanique indutrielle au centre
de formations A-W Gagné de
Sept-îles m’a permis de faire le
métier que je veux.
J’ai terminé mon secondaire V à l’École Mgr Scheffer
malgré les difficultés que
j’ai rencontré. J’avais un objectif à atteindre et c’était
celui de devenir policier.
J’ai donc quitté la BasseCôte-Nord pour faire ma
formation au cégep d’Alma
et obtenu mon diplôme à
l’École nationale de police
de Nicolet en 2003.
J’ai débuté mon premier emploi en juillet 2003 à la S.P.U.M. de
Sept-Iles. Depuis 2009, je suis à l’emploi de la police amérindienne de Pakuashipi.
Franco Guillemette
The decision to return to school after years of absence was not
an easy one. However, my motivation to do so was strong. My
goal was to become skilled in an area that would allow a greater
ability to obtaining permanent full time employment
on the Lower North Shore.
I decided that a vocational
program in accounting was
the right choice for me.
The school and teachers
were great and I found the
experience very rewarding.
I would recommend vocational programs to anyone
wanting to further their education.
