In das Gehäuse kann eine 3.5"-IDE-Festplatte eingebaut werden. Der Betrieb ist über eine USB2.0-/USB1.1Schnittstelle möglich. Ein externes Netzteil (für 230V~/50Hz) dient dabei zur Stromversorgung.

Der Aufbau des Produkts entspricht der Schutzklasse 2. Als Spannungsquelle für das Netzteil darf nur eine
ordnungsgemäße Netzsteckdose (230V~/50Hz) des öffentlichen Versorgungsnetzes verwendet werden.
Geräte, die an Netzspannung betrieben werden, gehören nicht in Kinderhände. Lassen Sie deshalb in
Anwesenheit von Kindern besondere Vorsicht walten. Das Produkt ist kein Spielzeug!
Lassen Sie das Verpackungsmaterial nicht achtlos liegen, dieses könnte für Kinder zu einem gefährlichen
Spielzeug werden.
Gehen Sie vorsichtig mit dem Produkt um, durch Stöße, Schläge oder dem Fall aus bereits geringer Höhe
wird es beschädigt.
Einbau einer 3.5"-IDE-Festplatte
Festplatte partitionieren und Formatieren
• Bei Windows XP ist dies sehr leicht über die Computerverwaltung möglich (klicken Sie in der
Systemsteuerung auf "Verwaltung", dann auf "Computerverwaltung", "Datenspeicher" und zuletzt auf
"Datenträgerverwaltung"). Wählen Sie dort die richtige Festplatte aus und legen Sie eine neue Partition
an. Anschließend ist diese zu formatieren.
• Bei Windows 98/98SE/ME dagegen sind die DOS-Befehle "FDISK" (zum Partitionieren) und "FORMAT"
(zum Formatieren) erforderlich.
Starten Sie die MSDOS-Eingabeaufforderung und geben Sie "FDISK" ein. Unter dem Menüpunkt "5.
Wechseln der aktuellen Festplatte" ist die externe Festplatte auszuwählen. Beispiel: Wenn Sie nur eine
interne Festplatte besitzen, wählen Sie die Festplatte "2". Danach kann eine primäre Partition angelegt
werden.
Verlassen Sie FDISK mit der ESC-Taste und führen Sie einen Neustart durch.
Anschließend kann die Partition auf der neuen Festplatte entweder über den Datei-Explorer von Windows
formatiert werden oder mit dem "FORMAT"-Befehl in der MSDOS-Eingabeaufforderung (unbedingt darauf achten, dass die neue Festplatte formatiert wird und nicht eine bereits vorhandene Festplatte bzw.
Partition, Datenverlust!).
Handhabung
Der Betrieb ist nur in trockenen Innenräumen zulässig.
Vermeiden Sie folgende widrige Umgebungsbedingungen am Aufstellungsort oder beim Transport:
- Nässe oder zu hohe Luftfeuchtigkeit
- Extreme Kälte (<0°C) oder Hitze (>45°C), direkte Sonneneinstrahlung
- Staub oder brennbare Gase, Dämpfe oder Lösungsmittel
- starke Vibrationen, Stöße, Schläge
- starke Magnetfelder, wie in der Nähe von Maschinen oder Lautsprechern
Das Produkt ist kein Spielzeug, es gehört nicht in Kinderhände. Kinder können die Gefahren, die im Umgang
mit elektrischen Geräten bestehen, nicht einschätzen.
Lassen Sie das Produkt zuerst auf Zimmertemperatur kommen, bevor es angeschlossen und verwendet wird. Dies kann u.U. mehrere Stunden dauern.
Achten Sie darauf, dass die Isolierung des gesamten Produkts weder beschädigt noch zerstört wird.
Überprüfen Sie vor jedem Gebrauch das Produkt auf Beschädigungen!
Falls Sie Beschädigungen feststellen, so darf das Produkt NICHT an die Netzspannung
angeschlossen werden! Es besteht Lebensgefahr!
Es ist anzunehmen, dass ein gefahrloser Betrieb nicht mehr möglich ist, wenn
- das Gerät sichtbare Beschädigungen aufweist,
- das Gerät nicht mehr funktioniert und
- nach längerer Lagerung unter ungünstigen Verhältnissen oder
- nach schweren Transportbeanspruchungen.
Eine Wartung oder Reparatur darf nur duch eine Fachwerkstatt durchgeführt werden.
Achten Sie beim Aufstellen des Produkts darauf, dass die Kabel nicht geknickt oder gequetscht werden.
Reinigung

• USB-Geräte erlauben das Ein- und Ausstecken während dem Betrieb.
Sie sollten dabei aber beachten, dass evtl. Dateien beschädigt werden könnten oder Windows abstürzen
könnte, wenn bei einer Datenübertragung das Verbindungskabel herausgezogen wird (bzw. das Gehäuse
ausgeschaltet oder das Netzteil abgesteckt wird).
• Schrauben Sie die Festplatte mit 4 passenden Schrauben auf dem Einschub fest.
• Schieben Sie den Einschub mit der Festplatte in das Alugehäuse zurück. Achten Sie darauf, dass die Kabel
nicht eingeklemmt werden.
• Der Einschub rastet im Alugehäuse ein.
Anschluss
• Schalten Sie Ihren Computer ein und warten Sie, bis das Betriebssystem vollständig geladen ist.
• Verbinden Sie das Niederspannungskabel des mitgelieferten Netzteils mit der dazugehörigen Buchse auf
der Rückseite des Gehäuses.
• Verbinden Sie das Netzteil mit dem Netzkabel. Stecken Sie den Netzstecker in eine Netzsteckdose
(230V~/50Hz).
• Bei Windows 98 ist vor dem Anschluss der Treiber der mitgelieferten CD zu installieren. Bei Windows
ME/XP ist der Treiber im Betriebssystem integriert, die CD ist nicht erforderlich!
• Verbinden Sie die USB-Buchse auf der Rückseite mit einem freien USB2.0-Port Ihres Computers und
schalten Sie das Gehäuse ein (Schalter auf der Rückseite).
• Selbstverständlich kann anstelle eines USB2.0-Ports auch ein herkömmlicher USB1.1-Port des PCs verwendet werden. Die Übertragungsgeschwindigkeit ist dabei aber sehr langsam (USB1.1, ca. 1MByte/s).
• Windows erkennt nun das Laufwerk automatisch.

Tipps & Hinweise
Bei Windows ME/XP erscheint bei USB-Betrieb ein Pfeil-Symbol in der Menüleiste, über das man Windows
anweisen kann, das Gerät zu "trennen", die Datenübertragungen also so zu beenden, dass man das
Verbindungskabel gefahrlos abstecken kann.
• USB2.0-Geräte sind abwärtskompatibel. Das bedeutet, dass das USB2.0-Gehäuse mit der eingebauten
Festplatte auch an herkömmlichen "langsamen" USB1.1-Ports funktioniert - aber dann eben nur in der
maximalen USB1.1-Geschwindigkeit (effektiv ca. 800kByte/s bis 1MByte/s).
Bei USB2.0 sind mehrere MBytes/s möglich.
• Über den mitgelieferten Standfuß kann das Gehäuse platzsparend senkrecht betrieben werden. Achten
Sie darauf, dass das Gehäuse mit der eingebauten Festplatte nicht umkippt, dies führt zur Beschädigung
der eingebauten Festplatte!

A new hard disk has to be partitioned and formatted before it can be used.
• With Windows XP, this can very easily be done using the Computer Management (in the Control Panel,
click on Administration, then on Computer Management, Storage, and finally Disk Management). There,
select the correct hard disk and create a new partition. Then format the disk.
• In Windows 98/98SE/ME, on the other hand, the DOS commands "FDISK" (for partitioning) and "FORMAT"
(for formatting) are necessary.
Start the MS DOS prompt and enter "FDISK". Under the menu point "5. Change current hard disk" select
the external hard disk. Example: If you only have one internal hard disk, select the hard disk "2". Then a
primary partition can be created.
Leave the FDISK with the ESC key and carry out a new start.
The partition on the new hard disk can be formatted either over the File Explorer from Windows or with
the "FORMAT" command in the MS DOS prompt (always make sure that the new hard disk is formatted
and not an already existing hard disk or partition, otherwise data can be lost.).

Features
• Installation of a 3.5" IDE device (e.g. IDE hard disk) possible
• Compatible with USB 2.0 and USB 1.1. The high-speed transmission mode is used for the USB 2.0.

The guarantee will lapse if damage is caused as a result of non-compliance with the
operating instructions. We shall not be held liable for any consequential damage or loss.
We shall not accept any liability for damage to property or personal injury caused by
incorrect handling or non-compliance with the safety instructions. The warranty will be
void in these cases.
For safety and licensing (CE) reasons, unauthorised alteration and/or modification of the product is not permitted.
The product is designed in accordance with protection class 2. Only a correct mains socket (230 V/50 Hz)
for the public supply grid may be used as the source of power.
Devices operated using the mains power supply must be kept out of reach of children. Particular care must
therefore be exercised if children are present. The device is not a toy.
Do not leave the packaging material lying around carelessly, as such materials can become dangerous toys
in the hands of children.
Handle the product with care. It can be damaged through impact, blows or even by being dropped from a
low height.
Avoid the following unfavourable ambient conditions at the place of installation or during transport:
- Moisture or excessive humidity
- Extreme cold (less than 0°C) or heat (greater than 45°C), direct sunshine
- Dust or combustible gases, vapours or solvents
- Strong vibration, impact or blows
- Strong magnetic fields such as those found in the vicinity of machinery or loudspeakers
The product is not a toy and must be kept out of reach of children. Children cannot estimate the risks which
can arise when handling electrical appliances.
Never use the product immediately after it has been taken from a cold room to a warm one. The
condensation water generated could destroy the product. Moreover, there is risk of an electric
shock.
Allow the product to reach room temperature before connecting it to the power supply and using it.
This may take several hours.
Make sure that the insulation of the entire product is intact and not damaged.
Always check the product for damage before it is used.
If you detect any damage, do NOT connect the product to the mains voltage. Risk of fatal
injury.
It must be assumed that safe operation is no longer possible if any of the following situations arise:
- The device is visibly damaged
- The device does not operate any longer
- The device has been stored for long periods of time under unfavourable conditions
- The device has been subject to considerable stress in transit
Servicing or repair work may only be carried out by a specialist workshop.
When setting up the product, make sure that the cable is neither bent nor pinched.
Cleaning
Installing a 3.5” IDE hard disk
• Press the catch on the bottom (in the front panel) and pull the slot out towards the back.
• Set the hard disk to "MASTER". Follow the operating instructions of the hard disk, if necessary, or obtain
information from the web site of the manufacturer.
• Connect the flat cable and the 5.25'' power plug to the drive.

Make sure that the plug on the flat cable is correctly inserted into the hard disk.
• Screw the hard disk firmly onto the slot using four suitable screws.
• Push the slot with the hard disk back into the aluminium housing. Make sure that the cables are not
jammed.
• The slot latches into place in the aluminium housing.
Connection
• Switch on your computer and wait until the operating system has started up.
• Connect the low-voltage cable of the supplied power unit to the appropriate jack on the rear of the housing.
• Connect the power unit to the mains cable. Insert the power plug into a mains socket (230 V~/50 Hz).
• When using Windows 98, the driver on the CD supplied needs to be installed before connecting to the
mains. Windows XP and ME both have an integrated driver in the operating system, i.e. the CD is not
required.
• Connect the USB jack on the rear to a free USB 2.0 port of your computer and switch the housing on
(switch on the rear).
• Of course you can also use a conventional USB 1.1 port of the PC instead of a USB 2.0 port. If you do so,
the transmission speed will be very slow (USB 1.1, approximately 1 Mbyte/s).
• Windows now recognises the drive automatically.

Safety information
Verwenden Sie das Produkt niemals gleich dann, wenn es von einem kalten in einen warmen
Raum gebracht wird. Das dabei entstehende Kondenswasser kann unter Umständen das
Produkt zerstören. Außerdem besteht die Gefahr eines elektrischen Schlages!
• Drücken Sie den Entriegelungsknopf auf der Unterseite (in der Frontblende) und ziehen Sie den Einschub
nach hinten heraus.
• Stellen Sie die Festplatte auf "MASTER" ein. Beachten Sie ggf. die Bedienungsanleitung der Festplatte
bzw. informieren Sie sich auf der Webseite des Herstellers.
• Verbinden Sie das Flachbandkabel und den 5.25"-Stromstecker mit dem Laufwerk.
Achten Sie darauf, dass der Stecker des Flachbandkabels richtig in die Festplatte eingesteckt
wird.
Eine neue Festplatte muss partitioniert und formatiert werden, bevor sie benutzt werden kann.
The use of a dry, lint-free cloth is sufficient to clean the product.
Tips and information
• USB devices can be plugged in and unplugged whilst the PC is in operation.
You should remember, however, that files could be damaged or Windows could crash if the cable is pulled
out during data transmission (or the housing switched off or the power unit disconnected).
Under Windows ME/XP an arrow is displayed in the menu bar when the USB device is in operation. Click
this arrow to "separate" the device, i.e. to terminate data transmission, so that you may disconnect the
connection cable without risking loss of data.
• USB 2.0 devices are downwards compatible. That means that the USB 2.0 housing with the installed hard
disk also functions on conventional, "slow“ USB 1.1 ports – but then only at the maximum USB 1.1 speed
(effective from approximately 800 Kbyte/s to 1 Mbyte/s).
A speed of several Mbytes/s is possible with USB 2.0.
• The housing can be operated vertically through the supplied foot stand to save space. Ensure that the
housing does not tip over with the installed hard disk. This causes damage to the installed hard disk.
A new hard disk has to be partitioned and formatted first before the drive is displayed in the
File Explorer and can be used.

Partitionnement et formatage du disque dur
Un disque dur neuf doit être partitionné et formaté avant de pouvoir être utilisé.
• Sous Windows XP, cette procédure s'effectue très simplement via la gestion de l'ordinateur (dans le panneau de configuration, cliquez sur « Outils d'administration », puis sur « Gestion de l'ordinateur », «
Stockage » et enfin sur « Gestion des disques »). Sélectionnez le disque dur correspondant et créez une
nouvelle partition. Le disque dur doit ensuite être formaté.
• Sous Windows 98/98SE/ME, il faut exécuter les commandes DOS « FDISK » (pour le partitionnement) et «
FORMAT » (pour le formatage).
Démarrez l'invite MSDOS et entrez « FDISK ». Sélectionnez le disque dur externe dans l'option de menu «
5. Modifier le lecteur de disque dur en cours ». Exemple : Si vous ne possédez qu'un disque dur interne,
choisissez le disque dur « 2 ». Vous pouvez ensuite créer une partition primaire.
Quittez FDISK à l'aide de la touche ESC et exécutez un redémarrage.
La partition peut ensuite être formatée sur le nouveau disque dur soit via l'explorateur de fichiers de
Windows soit via la commande « FORMAT » dans l'invite MSDOS (assurez-vous impérativement que le
disque dur devant être formaté est le nouveau et non un disque dur ou une partition déjà formaté(e), risque
de perte de données !).
Manipulation
L'appareil ne doit être utilisé que dans des locaux secs.
Caractéristiques
Il convient d'éviter les conditions défavorables suivantes sur le site d'installation ou lors du transport :
- présence de liquides ou humidité de l'air trop élevée,
- froid (<0 °C) ou chaleur extrêmes (>45 °C), exposition directe aux rayons du soleil
- poussière ou gaz inflammables, vapeurs ou solvants
- vibrations importantes, coups, chocs
- champs magnétiques intenses, par ex. à proximité de machines ou de haut-parleurs
• Possibilité d'installer un appareil IDE 3,5 pouces (disque dur IDE par ex.)
• Compatible avec USB2.0 et USB1.1, le mode de transmission High Speed est utilisé pour USB2.0.
• DEL latérales pour Power et voyant d'accès
Ce produit n'est pas un jouet, tenez-le hors de portée des enfants. Ceux-ci ne sont pas en mesure d'évaluer les risques résultant de la manipulation des appareils électriques !

corporels résultant d'une utilisation non conforme aux spécifications de l'appareil ou
d'un non-respect des présentes consignes ! Dans ces cas, tout droit à la garantie sera
annulé.
N'utilisez jamais le produit juste après qu'il a été transporté d'un local froid à un local chaud. Le
cas échéant, l’eau de condensation qui se forme alors risque de détruire le produit. De plus,
vous encourez un risque mortel d'électrocution !
Avant de raccorder ou d'utiliser le produit, attendez qu'il ait atteint la température ambiante. Selon
les cas, cela peut durer plusieurs heures.
Veillez à ce que l'isolation de l'ensemble du produit ne soit ni endommagée, ni détruite.
Assurez-vous, avant chaque utilisation, que le produit ne présente aucun endommagement !
Pour des raisons de sécurité et d'homologation (CE), les transformations et/ou modifications du produit,
réalisées à titre individuel, sont interdites.
La construction du produit correspond à la classe de protection 2. Comme source de tension du bloc d'alimentation, utilisez uniquement une prise de courant en parfait état de marche et raccordée au réseau d'alimentation public (230 V~/50 Hz).
Tenez les appareils alimentés par la tension secteur hors de portée des enfants. Une prudence toute particulière s'impose donc en présence d'enfants. Ce produit n'est pas un jouet !
Ne laissez pas le matériel d’emballage sans surveillance ; il pourrait constituer un jouet dangereux pour les
enfants.
En cas de dommages visibles, NE raccordez PAS le produit à la tension secteur ! Danger
de mort !
Un fonctionnement sans risque n'est pas assuré
- lorsque l'appareil est visiblement endommagé,
- lorsque l'appareil ne fonctionne plus,
- lorsque l'appareil a été stocké durant une période prolongée dans des conditions défavorables ou
- lorsqu'il a subi de sévères contraintes liées au transport.
L’entretien ou les réparations ne doivent être effectués que par un atelier spécialisé.
Lors de l’installation du produit, veillez à ce que les câbles ne soient ni pliés, ni écrasés.
Ce produit doit être manipulé avec précaution ; les coups, les chocs ou une chute, même d'une faible hauteur, peuvent l'endommager.
Nettoyage
Montage d'un disque dur IDE 3,5 pouces
Utilisez un chiffon doux, sec et non pelucheux pour nettoyer le produit.
• Appuyez sur le bouton de déverrouillage sur la partie inférieure (cache avant) et retirez la baie par l'arrière.
• Réglez le disque dur sur « MASTER ». Respectez, le cas échéant, le mode d'emploi du disque dur ou informez-vous sur le site Web du fabricant.
• Raccordez le câble nappe et le connecteur d'alimentation 5,25 pouces au lecteur.
Conseils & indications
☞
Veillez à ce que le connecteur du câble nappe soit correctement enfiché dans le disque dur.
• Vissez le disque dur sur la baie à l'aide de 4 vis appropriées.
• Remettez la baie avec le disque dur dans le boîtier en aluminium. Veillez à ne pas coincer les câbles.
• La baie s'enclenche dans le boîtier en aluminium.
Raccordement
• Mettez votre ordinateur en marche et attendez que le système d'exploitation soit entièrement chargé.
• Reliez le câble basse tension du bloc d'alimentation fourni à la prise femelle correspondante située au dos
du boîtier.
• Reliez le bloc d'alimentation à l'appareil. Enfichez la fiche secteur dans une prise de courant (230 V~/50
Hz).
• Sous Windows 98, il convient d'installer le pilote du CD fourni avant le raccordement. Sous Windows
ME/XP, le pilote est intégré dans le système d'exploitation, le CD n'est donc pas requis !
• Reliez la prise femelle USB située au dos à un port USB2.0 libre de votre ordinateur et mettez le boîtier en
marche (interrupteur au dos).
• Il va sans dire qu'il est possible d'utiliser un port USB1.1. classique de l'ordinateur à la place d'un port
USB2.0. Dans ce cas, la vitesse de transmission sera cependant très lente (USB1.1, env. 1 Moctet/s)
• Windows reconnaît maintenant le lecteur automatiquement.

• Les appareils USB peuvent être branchés ou débranchés durant le fonctionnement.
Il est cependant à noter que les fichiers peuvent éventuellement être endommagés ou que Windows peut
tomber en panne lorsque vous retirez le câble de liaison (ou éteignez le boîtier ou débranchez le bloc d'alimentation) lors d'une transmission de données.
Sous Windows ME/XP, un symbole de flèche apparaît dans la barre de menu en mode USB, permettant

• Les appareils USB2.0 sont compatibles avec les versions antérieures. Cela signifie que le boîtier USB2.0
et le disque dur intégré fonctionnent également sur des ports USB1.1 classiques « lents » - mais uniquement à la vitesse USB1.1 maximale (effective d'environ 800 ko/s à 1 Mo/s).
Pour USB2.0, plusieurs Mo/s sont possibles.
• Grâce au pied fourni, le boîtier peut être utilisé verticalement ce qui permet d'économiser de la place.
Veillez à ce que le boîtier avec le disque dur intégré ne se renverse pas ; ceci pourrait entraîner l'endommagement du disque dur !
Il vous faut d'abord partitionner et formater un disque dur neuf avant que le lecteur ne puisse s'afficher dans l'explorateur de fichiers et ne puisse être utilisé.
