IGDR seminar series INSTITUTE OF GENETICS AND DEVELOPMENT OF RENNES Dr. Elaine Fuchs Laboratory of Mammalian Cell Biology and Development The Rockefeller University, USA Stem cells in silence, action and cancer Campus Villejean, Building 2, Amphitheatre A Wednesday, November 25, 2015 - 14:00 Dr. Elaine Fuchs is the Rebecca C. Lancefield Professor of Mammalian Cell Biology and Development at the Rockefeller University and an investigator of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. Her research explores the mechanisms of cell differentiation and specialization, in particular the biology of skin stem cells and how they communicate with immune, dermal, and other cells in their environment. Using mammalian epithelial stem cell culture and mouse genetics, her landmark studies have had a tremendous impact on our understanding of skin disorders, cancer, and genetic diseases. For her pivotal work, Dr. Fuchs has received numerous awards, including the National Medal of Science (2009), the Albany Medical Center Prize in Medicine and Biomedical Research (2011), the March of Dimes Prize in Developmental Biology (2012), and the Pezcoller Foundation–AACR International Award for Cancer Research (2014). She is the recipient of the 2015 E. B. Wilson Medal, the highest honor bestowed by the American Society for Cell Biology.
