The organ, which is used for teaching, solo recitals and in performance with vocal and instrumental ensembles, sits in its own gallery at the front of the five hundred seat hall above the stage. The dark stained oak casework and contrasting brightly polished façade pipes provide a dramatic visual statement at t hef r ontoft heUni v e r s i t y ’ spr i nc i palr e c i t alhal l .Theac ous t i c soft heroom, which also is used for lectures, may be adjusted by reversing sound absorbing panels and retracting draperies hung along the side walls in order to provide a splendid acoustical setting for the organ. The well-developed Grand Orgue of twelve stops is based on a Montre 16' while the large fourteen stop Récit, located at the top of the case, is based upon a Montre 8'. The third manual (Grand Chœur ) functions as a coupling manual in addition to being home for the Trompette-en-c hamade and Fl ût e 8’ e xt e nded from the Pédale division. Mechanical and alternative electric coupling is provided for use in performing romantic and contemporary works. Just a note to tell you how stunning the Casavant is. It is a remarkable instrument in a most favorable acoustic ambience. —Marilyn Mason, Professor of Music, University of Michigan, April 18, 1986 Grand Orgue Récit Montre 16 Montre 8 Flûte harmonique (common bass) 8 Bourdon à cheminée 8 Prestant 4 Flûte 4 Doublette 2 Cornet III 2-2/3 Grande Fourniture II-IV 2-2/3 Fourniture IV-V 1-1/3 Douçaine 16 Trompette 8 1 Pédale Montre Soubasse Octavebasse (Ext.)
