avril 2016–No. 255 Woodchuck’s Stump Grinding Services, Gilles Pineau moved to St. Pierre at a young age and there he has remained as he loves the town where he grew up. He has worked as a heavy equipment operator since 1980. Always a very hard worker and having a love of wood and the outdoors, he decided to start a seasonal side business in preparation for his retirement. "Woodchucks", his strump grinding business was launched in June 2007. He begins working on nuisance stumps during the spring thaw and goes until the first snow fall. Up until now, the majority of his business has been advertised by word of mouth and reputation. Do you have some tree stumps that are just "in the way"? Call Gilles at 204-746-0341with your needs, he will explain the service he provides. He will then set up a time that is mutually convenient, provide an estimate for the job and if agreed upon, he will do the job on the spot. Creekside Log Products CREEKSIDE LOG PRODUCTS Bonjour! Creekside Log Products is a small family owned company dedicated to supplying you with quality wood products. It started out with just a sawmill and over the years, a log lathe and a 4-head moulder/planer were added. Together with my son Christian from St. Malo, we are continually working hard to improve all aspects of the business. Christian handles the sawmilling part of the business. I bring into the company approximately 40 years of business experience in the wood and construction industry. Our specialty is pine products. I believe wholeheartedly in rural life and in small businesses. It is an understatement to say that pets should be protected from ticks and fleas. Besides the aggravation and discomfort of itching, these parasites can infect your furry friends with serious, occasionally even fatal diseases. Fortunately there is a wide array of products available to help protect your pet pals from these harmful parasitets. Topical and oral medications, sprays, powders, shampoos, dips and collars are all available to defend your furry companions. Inspired by the "Sister Act" movies, starring Whoopi Goldberg, and under the direction of the Reverend Mother Carole "Whoopi" Stone, the group has grown to include approximately 80 people from all areas of Winnipeg and the surrounding rural communities. While this dedicated group makes a musical and spiritual difference in the communities where they perform, they also have an opportunity to grow musically and personally. The "Sisters", dressed in their Traditional black and white nun-like habits are often described as "Talented and Teasing, Serious and Silly, Faithful and Frolicking, Holy and Hilarious". They present their own "Sister Act" with a repertoire of more than forty numbers, loaded with harmony, choreography, rhythm, humour and boundless energy. The group performs 30 concerts a year for fund raising events to audiences crossing all generations from children to seniors. The uplifting music and joyful spirit of the "Sisters" is contagious to their audiences, and often inspires standing ovations. Since their debut on Winnipeg stages the Sisters of the Holy Rock have performed over 700 shows and entertained more than 300,000 people. Funds exceeding $3,250,000 have been generated for numerous organizations through "Sisters" performances. Featured frequently in the national and local media, the Sisters of the Holy Rock continue to be one of the most sought after entertainment groups in Manitoba. This year our event is on April 9 and 10th, from 10 to 5. First of all the committee members work hard at organizing the tours of our 1938 classroom complete with our costumed teacher (Rachelle) and the itinerary of yesteryear; the interpretation of how maple water is collected from trees; how maple syrup is made by boiling (René) , the La Vérendrye soldier with their display and musket manoeuvers, and the Maison Goulet complete with costumed children, adults (Jacqueline,Marie and family),demonstrating how chores were done before all our conveniences. This is a hands on experience (with our crackling wood stove that is really appreciated by our visitors),for children of all ages. They also learn about family experiences during the early 1900's.We have up to 1000 children coming through our program during the week prior to the weekend festivities which include music, tasty food, taffy on snow, quilting demos, weaving with a loom, wool carding, children's activities and baked goods from our wood stove served piping hot at Maison Goulet. The selling of our products has enabled us to foresee building our summer kitchen this year! If you've never been to our festival come for a visit and if you already have been it's always a pleasure to see you again ! Le « Pourquoi? » The « Why ? Father Michael J McGivney becomes a curate to St. Mary’s parish in New Haven in 1878. He aspired to find a financial solution for catholic families. He invited young catholic men to a meeting and discuss the new group he wanted to organize. Among the 80 parishioners who met, there were former principals of a benevolent society called the Red Knights who disbanded a year prior. The idea of the Red Knights « to extend a helping hand to needy Brothers, and to assist them in the time of sickness and death » was good but he wanted the new group to embrace the Church and that the death benefits be more substantial. So, in 1882, an official charter was established for the new group « Knights of Columbus ». The goal was to have a minimum of 1,000 catholic men who would become insured members. If a member became sick or unable to work, their would be a weekly benefit of $5 or $1,000 upon death to their family. À suivre, comment devenir Chevaliers de Colomb The Knights of Columbus’ insurance has evolved over the years, for additional information, please contact Roland at 204-792-6149.
