Ensemble, soutenons et accompagnons les actions de développement durable Coopérative de Solidarité Internationale Mission Form mission code : SARV001 Mission title : Teaching English to the children and people from the staff and from the village Place : Uttar Pradesh (North India) Partner : please check the Local Partner Form Project(s) description: * Education and health Program: In Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh the main language is Hindi. Children have English courses at school, but unfortunately, it results that English teachers do not have a good level in this language. * Strengthening the team' skills: Our partner wishes to strengthen its team's skills in different topics related to the NGO management and functioning, such as computer, English language, web design and external communication. Volunteering mission objectives: * Improve the English level of the local people, children, teenagers and adults, so they can speak and write it better: they may use it in their job or in a future job that they may get more easily; * Give them the opportunity to practice English with foreigners to get used to other pronunciations and broaden their language comprehension; (They may know the English grammar but there is a lack of English conversations); * Increase their opportunities to communicate with non-Indian people and Indian people from other regions that don't speak Hindi or any of the local languages. Volunteering mission description : Before departure, the volunteer will prepare her/his mission in order to think about some material she/he could bring to do the English class. She/he will decide how to organize those in order to propose courses of different levels that could fit the beneficiaries ‘needs and timetable/constraints. He will finally teach English to the different groups, doing exercises, conversation or anything she/he will retain useful, interactive and friendly to encourage the students to learn or improve their English level. Mission report : In her/his report, the volunteer will describe the work done. She/he will report the beneficiaries’ expectations at the beginning of the mission and their satisfaction level at the end. In any case, the volunteer will have to hand in a mission report to the partner and to Solid’Action before living. Thus, both partner and Solid’Action will be able to assess and decide together how to go forward on the project. The mission report should also be the work basis of the following mission if necessary, as well as a written communication about what to do, for the following volunteer. Mission specifications : Working conditions : Premises location : * Partner’s office/guest house: 1 building with at the ground floor some offices, 1 kitchen; at the 1st floor the guest house: 1 big room for girls with bathroom and toilets, some single beds, 2 tables and chairs, fans; 1 room for boys with 3 single beds with bathroom, fans; a big terrace. * Schools in the surroundings of the guest house, in a range of about 5 km Work team : the staff members and teachers. Very few of them can smoothly communicate in English. Person responsible for the volunteer : the Responsible person for 15-24 years age group. Available resources : Wi-Fi connection, PC and printer; the volunteer may bring any specific material she/he will need and cannot find onsite (to check and coordinate before departure with the association). Mission availability : Better between October and April. Too hot in May-June. Beneficiaries’ availability to check anyway. Mission linked to another mission : no Possibility to go in couple : yes Accommodation : in the guest house/office of the NGO. check the details below, in the “Cost of the mission” paragraph. Logistical aspects : Picking-up the volunteers at the airport/ or railway station : 1) a car can be organized from the Chitrakoot or Allahabad train station or Allahabad airport, against contribution. (Between 1000Rs-1500Rs/15-20€) 2) to pick-up the volunteer in Delhi by train: A/R of the staff member is about 2000Rs-3000Rs/3045€) + the cost for the volunteer of her/his own trip *about 1000Rs/15€ by train to Allahabad + trip to the partner’s place (50Rs/1€ by bus; Between 1000Rs-1500Rs/15-20€ by taxi]. Moving from the place the volunteer is supposed to stay to the workplace: to check from time to time; no independent move, a local people will always go along with the volunteer. In case, possibility to rent a motorbike for 150Rs/day + petrol cost to check from time to time. Volunteers’ profile : Age : adult, no age limit. Wanted skills : Very good English skills. Wanted qualities : pedagogy, patience, open-mindedness, dynamism, humility, quality of adaptation, relational qualities. Required languages : English! Pre-departure training obligatory. Visa :a visa is obligatory for almost all nationalities. It is possible to ask a touristic visa for 15 days, 3 months or 6 months for the same cost : 70€ for a passport left and collected directly at the Indian Embassy, 90€ if done by mail. Be careful, the passport validity starts from the delivery day of the visa. Vaccinations : *No vaccinations is compulsory to go to India (except for travelers coming from Africa, Latin America and Papua New Guinea, that must present a certificate of vaccination against yellow fever). Nevertheless, it is better to update the following vaccinations: Diphtheria-Tetanus-Polio, typhoid, viral hepatitis A and B. It is highly advised to meet your doctor or to go to a hospital center specialized in travel medicine, sufficiently in advance to anticipate potential vaccines with reminders. *For longer stays, vaccination against rabies can be recommended. *For stays in rural areas, a vaccination against Japanese encephalitis may be required. In addition to vaccination, this viral disease is transmitted by mosquito bites, it is necessary to use protective measures against mosquitos (repellent sprays). *Malaria treatment: for a 3 weeks to 1 month mission, the most costly treatment is about 135€. NB: Cholera, dengue fever, dysentery, hepatitis, malaria, meningitis (in the trekking areas), typhoid and rabies are widespread.
