There Is No AP Guarantee

"Awfully painful. I'm pretty
sure that is what AP stands for," said
AP European student and pupil at
Nashua High School South (NHSS),
Timothy Cunningham.
As the year comes to a
close, so does the chance to study
for AP, or Advance Placement, Exams. These exams started May 3
and will continue through Friday, May
14. All exams will be administered at
the Resurrection Church on Broad
Street except for the French, Spanish, and Music tests. Those three
exams will be held at Nashua High
School North in the Media Center.
Advance Placement Exams
are for those who take AP classes,
ranging from AP Spanish, AP Calculus, to even AP Music Theory. AP
classes are taught at a college level,
but can be taken in high school.
There is a catch, though. College
credit will only be awarded if the the
student earns a three, four, or five,
out of five on the AP Exam.

for the Hawaii trip, though, will
be laying on the white sand
beaches, with no worries except
for when they have to flip over
to tan their back, or when their
pizza is going to be delivered

2011 extended learning opportunity trip to Hawaii. Mr.

about the concert. "I think we still
have a lot of work to be done. We've
been working really hard on the

is "not yet [ready] but we will be

be a great show and I think that everyone will really enjoy it."
Talking to the Thai Tots

The pictures of
young Thai orphans can be
seen as you walk down
main street in Nashua High
School South. These pictures are part of a project
that Nashua South has
been doing for a while now.
For the project, students
get sent pictures of orphans from a foreign country and the students paint a
portrait of them.
Mary Bolton, a senior at
Nashua High School South,
and Lindsay Davis, a
sophomore at South, were
two of the students who
participated in the memory
project this year. Bolton
describes the project as
giving the "children a positive memory to hold onto."
She says the overall process took about three to four
weeks. They began the
project by drawing the
child's face and painting
the background. "The background needed to be something fun. Mine was butterflies and flowers," describes Davis. After the
backgrounds were chosen,
the students worked on the
features of the faces of the
children. Students worked
hard to get the drawings to
resemble the Thai children
as much as possible.
After the portraits were
finalized and painted to
perfection, students took
pictures with their drawings. "We sealed the picture in a plastic bag with
the picture of us and the
child and the original picture," said Davis. After taking pictures of their masterpieces, students sent their
portraits to Thailand for the
orphans to enjoy. "And we
actually got pictures of
them holding the painting,"
Davis exclaimed.
The project really seems
to get a positive response
from the students. "It was
something that I've never
done before," stated Davis.
Bolton expressed that she
absolutely loved the project. The students were
given the children's nicknames which made the
students feel like they actually, "got to know them. We
grew really close with our
child. It was really personal
to all of us," says Bolton.
Davis says, "Knowing that I
could put a smile on a
child's face, it's just awesome." The memory project
ended up going successfully and the art students
made some new friends.

Who Sucks More Eggs?

North still suck eggs...or
are they just getting

In the recent year it
seems that the North vs.
South rivalry while still going strong has flip flopped
into the new school beating
the old school. While South
is the original school and
has been what people believed to be the better in
school sports, this past
season of sports has seen
a transformation of the
North athletic standings.
Nashua North has beaten
Nashua South in many
sporting event this past
year including football a
sport that just last year
south
dominated.
In the beginning after the
split of the original Nashua
high a competition called
the battle of the bridges
started. The battle of the
bridges is a competition
comprised of a series of
North vs. South athletic
games, this competition
has mostly been won by
Nashua South athletics but
this year the North athletic
teams have brought South
down a head size or two.
North has beaten South in
a majority of sporting
events concluding with
North predominately winning the battle of the
bridges this year. Why
could it be that North is
beating south? Nashua
South athlete, sophomore
Julianne MacDonald said "I
think we got cocky. I think
we think we're going to win
then we don't play as hard.
Plus we may not be as

It could be that it is just
North's year, sometimes
there are senior classes
that are very good at
sports, last year South had
a senior class that had
many gifted athletes so
South succeeded in beating North in athletics but
this year the school seems
to not have many senior
students that are outstanding athletes so South
is having a problem competing with other schools
that have very gifted athl

Could North be picking
up their intensity because
their tired of being the newbies and they want to form
a name for themselves.
North athletics are constantly reminded that South
has almost always beaten
them in everything and a
normal athlete would respond to that type of pressure by striving to do better
and beat their main opponent, which in this case
would be South. When
asked why she thinks that
North seems to be picking
up the intensity and beating
South in athletics more
than usual this year Leah

"Because maybe finally our
first freshman classes have
come full circle...we're finally establishing ourselves

become cocky over the
years. Last year South was
the division I football champions and this may have
gone to South's head. The
big North vs. South football
game ended in South's big
head being deflated. Although through the years
South has predominately
won, North is starting to
come out to be the new
best in Nashua high school

As the years go by South
could fade into the back
ground and North could
become the best new thing
but as for now North could
just be having one of those
years.
