Félicitations à vous tous pour votre qualification aux
Championnats du 2012 de l’ACSC de volley-ball. Nous
sommes très heureux d’avoir l’occasion d’accueillir ces
championnats et nous nous réjouissons pour ces trois jours
de grande compétition. Je suis sûr que cette expérience sera
une dont vous vous rappellerez tout le restant de votre vie.
Notre personnel et nos bénévoles ont travaillé très dur pour
vous fournir une expérience de qualité. J’espère que vous
serez en mesure de profiter de la beauté naturelle du campus

CCAA National Volleyball Championships. We are very
pleased to have the opportunity to host this Championship
and we look forward to three days of great competition. I’m
sure this experience will be one that you will remember for
the rest of your lives.
Our staff and volunteers have worked extremely hard to
provide you with a top quality experience. I hope that you
will be able to enjoy some of the natural beauty of the VIU
campus and the city of Nanaimo while you are here.
If there is anything we can do to make your stay here more

Message du président
Welcome to Vancouver Island University (VIU) and
congratulations to all the teams on qualifying for the
2012 Women’s Volleyball National Championships and
to all the supporters who have traveled to support their
teams. Your institutions are watching with pride and
anticipation as you enter these national tests.
Bienvenue à l’Université de Vancouver Island (Vancouver
Island University -VIU) et félicitations à toutes les
équipes qui se sont qualifiées au Championnat National
de Volley-ball féminin 2012 et à tous les supporters qui
ont voyagé pour soutenir leurs équipes. Vos institutions
regardent avec fierté et anticipation votre participation a
ces tests nationaux.
Each athlete understands the dedication it takes to be
a top competitor in the Canadian Collegiate Athletic
Association (CCAA) and you should all be very proud of
your accomplishments. We will do everything we can to
make the 2012 Championship a memorable one for all
student athletes, coaches and fans. We hope you will have
time to explore the VIU campus and the beautiful city of
Nanaimo while you are on Vancouver Island.
We all look forward to three days of outstanding
Volleyball action and wish all the teams all the best as
they compete for the National title. Please enjoy your
stay. We know you will leave with lasting memories and

2011-2012 Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association VOLLEYBALL Female
Apprentice Coaches
The Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) is pleased to announce the successful VOLLEYBALL candidates participating in the 2011-2012 CCAA Female Apprentice Coach Program. The CCAA Female Apprentice Coach Program targets
female graduating student-athletes to participate in collegiate sport as apprentice coaches. The program provided grants for
professional development opportunities and operational costs associated with the apprentice coach. Apprentice coaches
typically aid in player scouting, team communications, training exercises, skill development and administrative duties
throughout the season. The CCAA Female Apprentice Coach program is funded by Sport Canada.
D’apprenties entraîneures de VOLLEYBALL de l’Association canadienne du
sport collégial pour 2011-2012
L’Association canadienne du sport collégial (ACSC) est heureuse d’annoncer les noms des candidates de VOLLEYBALL choisies
pour participer au Programme d’apprenties entraîneures de l’ACSC pour 2011-2012. Le Programme d’apprenties entraîneures de l’ACSC cible les étudiantes-athlètes finissantes à participer au sport collégial à titre d’apprenties entraîneures. Le
programme accorde des subventions pour des possibilités de formation professionnelle et les coûts de fonctionnement liés
à l’apprentie entraîneure. Les apprenties entraîneures aident habituellement au repérage de joueurs, aux communications
d’équipe, aux exercices d’entraînement, au développement des compétences et aux fonctions administratives tout au cours
de la saison. Le Programme d’apprenties entraîneures de l’ACSC est financé par Sport Canada.

The King’s University College Eagles, ACAC
Apprentice: Oriana Pysyk
Inspired by a former club coach, Oriana Pysyk
achieved her goal to play volleyball at the postsecondary level when she joined The King’s
University College women’s team. She repaid the
favour by coaching at summer camps, and plans
to continue coaching for the rest of her life. “I am
excited to have a mentor who is a well-established
female head coach in the province of Alberta,”
says Pysyk. “She shares my passion for sport and
competition.”
Les Eagles du King’s University College, ACAC
Apprentie : Oriana Pysyk
Inspirée par un ancien entraîneur du club, Oriana
Pysyk a realisé son objectif de jouer au volleyball
au niveau postsecondaire lorsqu’elle s’est jointe à
l’équipe féminine du King’s University College. Elle
a, à son tour, rendu la faveur en étant entraîneure
dans des camps d’été et elle prévoit poursuivre sa
carrière d’entraîneure pour de nombreuses années
encore. « Je suis emballée d’avoir un mentor qui
est une entraîneure en chef bien établie dans la
province d’Alberta, déclare Oriana. Elle partage ma
passion pour le sport et la compétition.
Lakeland College Lady Rustlers, ACAC
Apprentice: Brianne Collette
Brianne Collette played four years of volleyball at
Lakeland College, including two years spent playing for Mentor coach Austin Dyer. During that time,
Dyer saw the team captain “grow as a player and
a person. I would like to take this to the next step
and help her transform into a coach. She would be
a great asset to our team and I believe she has the
potential to become a great coach.”

Apprentie : Brianne Collette
Brianne Collette a joué quatre ans au volleyball
pour Lakeland College, dont deux ans pour
l’entraîneur mentor Austin Dyer. Durant cette
période, Austin a vu le capitaine de son équipe se
développer comme joueuse et comme individu.
J’aimerais passer à l’étape suivante et l’aider
à devenir une entraîneure. Elle sera un ajout
important pour notre équipe et je crois qu’elle a le
potentiel pour devenir une grande entraîneure.

Collège Lionel-Groulx Nordiques, RSEQ
Apprentice: Sophie Pauzé-Bélanger
Sophie Pauzé-Bélanger is a former member of the
Collège Lionel-Groulx Nordiques. She applied to
the CCAA Female Apprentice Coaching Program
in the hopes of one day attaining a top-level
coaching job in the field of volleyball. She has
competed in the Quebec Games, as well as serving
as a volunteer and youth coach.

Apprentie : Sophie Pauzé-Bélanger
Sophie Pauzé-Bélanger est une ex-membre des
Nordiques du Collège Lionel-Groulx. Elle a posé
sa candidature pour participer au Programme
d’apprenties entraîneures de l’ACSC dans l’espoir
de décrocher un jour un poste d’entraîneure de
haut niveau en volleyball. Elle a participé aux Jeux
du Québec, en plus de servir comme bénévole et
entraîneure auprès des jeunes.
Grande Prairie Regional College Wolves, ACAC
Apprentice: Erinn Brady
Erinn Brady has been actively involved in volleyball
for over ten years, twice serving as captain of
the GPRC women’s team. “When I wasn’t playing
volleyball, I was coaching volleyball,” says Brady.
“My career goal is to become a college instructor
and coach women’s volleyball at the college level. I
believe it is critical to learn from excellent coaches
such as Ron Thomson.”
Wolves du Grande Prairie Regional College, ACAC
Apprentie : Erinn Brady
Erinn Brady s’intéresse activement au volleyball
depuis plus de dix ans, ayant agi à deux reprises
comme capitaine de l’équipe féminine du GPRC. Lorsque je ne jouais pas au volleyball, j’étais
entraîneure de volleyball, nous confie Erinn. Mon
objectif de carrière est de devenir instructeur
collégial et entraîneure de volleyball féminin
au niveau collégial. J’estime qu’il est essentiel
d’apprendre avec l’aide d’excellents entraîneurs
comme Ron Thomson.
Lethbridge College Kodiaks, ACAC
Apprentice: Gina Goruk
Lethbridge College alumnus Gina Goruk spent two
seasons on the women’s volleyball team before
continuing her studies in hopes of becoming both
a teacher and coach to young adolescents. Goruk
applied to the CCAA Female Apprentice Coach
program “because I believe it will provide me with
a valuable experience for my future endeavours.”
Kodiaks du Lethbridge College, ACAC
Apprentie : Gina Goruk
L’ancienne du Lethbridge College, Gina Goruk,
a passé deux saisons dans l’équipe de volleyball
féminin avant de poursuivre ses études dans
l’espoir de devenir professeur et entraîneur auprès
des jeunes adolescents. Gina a fait sa demande
pour participer au Programme d’apprenties
entraîneures de l’ACSC parce que j’estime qu’il me
procurera une précieuse expérience pour mes
projets futurs.
Holland College Hurricanes, ACAA
Apprentice: Abigail Webb
Abigail Webb joined the Holland Hurricanes in
their inaugural 2009-2010 season, and completed
two seasons with the squad before graduating.
“Playing experience at a higher level is an asset,”
says Webb. “As a former player and captain of
the team I have been in the same position as the
players under my care.”

Apprentie : Abigail Webb
Abigail Webb s’est jointe aux Hurricanes du Holland
College au cours de leur saison inaugurale 20091020 et a complété deux saisons avec l’équipe
avant de graduer. L’expérience de jeu à un niveau
supérieur constitue un actif, mentionne Abigail.
À titre d’ex-joueuse et capitaine de l’équipe, je
me suis retrouvée dans la même position que les
joueuses que j’encadre.

Mount Saint Vincent University Mystics, ACAA
Apprentice: Jamie Brown
Jamie Brown played volleyball for four years at
MSVU, and was named a CCAA Volleyball Player
of the Month and 2011 CCAA Women’s Volleyball
All-Canadian during her senior year. After six years
spent coaching at the club level, Brown believes
the CCAA Female Apprentice Coach Program “will
give me mentorship, knowledge and experience
to build a good framework and become a great
coach.”

University, ACAA
Apprentie : Jamie Brown
Jamie Brown a joué au volleyball durant quatre
années à la MSVU et a été nommée joueuse
de volleyball du mois de l’ACSC et joueuse de
volleyball féminin par excellence pan-canadienne
de l’ACSC 2011 au cours de sa dernière année.
Après six ans comme entraîneure au niveau des
clubs, Jamie estime croit que le Programme
d’apprenties entraîneures de l’ACSC me procurera
le mentorat, les connaissances et l’expérience
nécessaires pour créer un bon cadre de travail
et pour me permettre de devenir une excellente
entraîneure.
Red Deer Queens, ACAC
Apprentice: Mandy Carroll
A five-year veteran of the Red Deer Queens
volleyball program, Mandy not only competed on
the court but also coached the institution’s club
program. Her performance earned her a BMO
student athlete leadership award, and she’s not
done yet. “Being a part of the Queens’ volleyball
program is something that changed my life for
the better,” says Carroll. “I want to give back to the
program as much as I have gained from it.

Apprentie : Mandy Carroll
Mandy est une Vétéran de cinq ans du programme
de volleyball des Queens de Red Deer. Elle a non
seulement participé sur le terrain, mais a aussi
dirigé le programme du club de l’institution. Sa
performance lui a valu le prix de leadership du
groupe BMO pour étudiants-athlètes. Et ce n’est
pas tout. La participation au programme de
volleyball des Queens a changé ma vie pour le
mieux, nous confie Mandy. Je veux redonner au
programme autant que ce que j’ai reçu.

Apprentice: Jessica Chiu
Jessica Chiu is a former Seneca women’s volleyball
player and team captain. Always eager to dissect
every aspect of the game and motivate her team
to strive for more, Chiu is anxious to take on the
role of apprentice coach. “I would like to take the
knowledge and skills I learned and pass it on to
incoming athletes.”

Apprentie : Jessica Chiu
Jessica Chiu est une ancienne joueuse de
volleyball féminin du collège Seneca et elle fût
également capitaine de l’équipe. Intéressée
par tous les aspects du jeu et à motiver son
équipe à viser plus haut, Jessica a hâte d’assumer
le rôle d’apprentie entraîneure. J’aimerais
pouvoir transmettre aux nouveaux athlètes

Megan Nagy, Medicine Hat College
Megan is a hard-working, focussed, and wellrounded student athlete. She is very humble and
a team player. Megan is the MHC Rattlers captain
and leads by example in all aspect of life. She is a
student of life, constantly working to better herself. She has phenomenal workout and nutrition
habits, is an honour student, and is always willing
to share her knowledge and experience with
her teammates. Even if she wasn’t such a good
volleyball player, Megan is the type of studentathlete every coach would love to have on his/
her team.
Coach of the Year / Entraîneur de l’année
Sylvain Loiseau, Cégep de Sherbrooke
Sylvain Loiseau of the Volontaires de Sherbrooke
is the 2012 CCAA Women’s Volleyball Coach of
the Year.
The Volontaires de Sherbrooke finished the
2011-2012 regular season ranked first in Quebec’s
RSEQ conference with a 15-1 record, an improvement over last year’s 12-4 record. Seven members
of the squad also play for Quebec’s provincial team.
Loiseau has coached on the national program,
earned gold at the Canada Games and national
titles at the 2004 and 2005 CCAA Women’s Volleyball National Championships. He’s currently
working towards his level 4 NCCP certification.
His goal “is to have fun and help kids reach
their potential to become better athletes, students and individuals.”
