Pulsed interrogation in an atomic clock based on coherent
Pulsed interrogation in an atomic clock based on coherent population trapping TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION Notre référence : 86403-01 Status des brevets French patent application FR0403289 filed on March 30th, 2004 entitled "Procédé de generation d’un signal d’horloge atomique à piégeage coherent de population et horologe atomique" This invention describes a process to generate an atomic clock signal and the corresponding atomic clock. The description concerns : - On the one hand, the pulsed interrogation in a clock based on coherent population trapping. The amplitude of the optical signal is not constant, but is periodically modulated. The signal measured at the pulse (n) is depending of the atomic state created at the pulse (n-1) and of its evolution during the time between both pulses. - On the other hand, the clock signal generation. It is based on the difference between the measured signals during the different pulses, which allows to increase the clock signal contrast, while rejecting the slow fluctuations of the lasers parameters used for the interrogation. INDUSTRIAL APPLICATIONS This innovation could be used for all the systems requiring a very stable and precise frequency reference (GPS receivers or synchronization systems of the telecommunication network for example).
