The Reunion Regional Council re g i s t e red the
professionalization of the Reunionese artists as a
strong axis of its strategy for cultural development.
Exporting our musics completely belongs to this
orientation and concretely shows our will to keep
wide opened to the world.
Having a professional delegation from Reunion
Island attending to international markets and
forums gives , at the same time, the opportunity for
the local musical sphere , hardly hit by the crisis, to
investigate new horizons as well as a possibility of
promoting La Réunion and, further on, the Indian
Ocean islands.
The Reunionese artistic scene is indeed very
important in this area and raises projects with all
the nearby islands: Madagascar, Maurice,
Seychelles, Comoros, Mayotte... offering together a
wide range of musical styles to propose to the
professionals coming to Womex from all over the
world. This scene confirms its engagement for the
whole geographic area through professional events
for promoting artists.
The recognition of the Reunionese music by
Unesco on October 1st, 2009 by re g i s t e r i n g
Maloya on the World Heritage of the Humanity is
strengthened by the live presence of two of our
artists in the showcases program of this Womex
2010. It shows, if still needed, that the work that
started many years ago is today rewarded and
recognized on the international scene. Nathalie
Natiembé and Danyèl Waro are some of the best
ambassadors for Reunion music in Womex. We
sincerely wish they will raise the same interest for
other of our many talented artists.
We are very happy and proud to attend to this 15th
edition of Womex.
La Région Réunion a inscrit la professionnalisation
des artistes réunionnais comme axe fort de sa
stratégie de développement culturel. L’export de
nos musiques répond pleinement à cette
orientation et participe également à notre volonté
d’ouverture au monde.
La présence de professionnels réunionnais sur les
salons et marchés internationaux est à la fois
l’opportunité pour le secteur musical, durement
touché par la crise, d’explorer de nouveaux
horizons ainsi que la possibilité de promouvoir La
Réunion, voire l’océan Indien. La scène artistique
réunionnaise occupe effectivement une place
centrale dans cette zone et développe des projets
avec l’ensemble des îles voisines : Madagascar,
Maurice, les Seychelles, les Comores, Mayotte…
o ffrant ainsi une large palette d’esthétiques
musicales aux programmateurs et professionnels
du monde entier présents au Womex. Elle est en ce
sens la plaque tournante de toute une région par le
biais d’événements professionnels auxquels les
artistes participent.
La reconnaissance de la musique réunionnaise par
l’Unesco le 1er octobre 2009 en inscrivant le maloya
au patrimoine mondial de l’Humanité est
aujourd’hui renforcée par la programmation de
deux de nos artistes à cette édition 2010 du
Womex. Cela démontre encore, s’il en était besoin,
que le travail entamé depuis plusieurs années est
aujourd’hui récompensé et reconnu sur la scène
internationale. Nathalie Natiembé et Danyèl Waro
sont des ambassadeurs de choix de la musique
réunionnaise au Womex. Puissent–ils susciter la
distinction de nombreux autres artistes.
Nous sommes très heureux et fiers d’être présents
sur cette 15e édition du Womex.

RUNMUZIK, the regional office for today’s
music in Reunion, is a non profit-making
association jointly created by the Ministry of
C u l t u re and the Regional Council of
Reunion in September 1997. The objective
was to set up a partnership between
cultural actors and the public involved in
contemporary and traditional music in the
islands of the southwestern Indian Ocean.
Our five fields of action are musical
heritage, information, training, support for
export and study.

Takamba, the label for musical heritage of
Indian ocean islands
Having a public mission about musical heritage
since 1997, The PRMA founded a unique records
memory collection in this indian ocean area
working in two directions :
• Re-issues of old recordings that were unavailable
by artists of historical importance
• Fields recordings by the witnesses of strong
musical traditions on each of these islands.
Inside this collection were produced untill now 17
albums, the first one as digipaks with 48 pages
booklets, and the latest issues as real books
including CD and DVD adding now the visual
memory to complete the sounds works.

Dans le cadre de sa mission patrimoine depuis
1997, le PRMA a créé Takamba, un label de
disques de mémoire, unique sur cette zone
géographique de l'océan indien, avec une double
ligne éditoriale :
• Rééditions de vieux enregistrements d'artistes
disparus ou oubliés des circuits commerciaux
• Collectages de terrain des porteurs de traditions
fortes dans chacune des îles.
La collection compte à ce jour 17 références, les

Master CD Lab is a services selling company,
founded in January 2003 at St Pierre,
Reunion Island, proposing CD's, CD-Rom's
and DVD's making. To enlarge their field of
activities, they opened another office in july
2007 in Annecy ( Haute-Savoie) in France,

The Akord label proposes a wide range of
musical styles influenced by the mix between
the traditional “Maloya”, the heritage from
slaves, the sounds brought by the settlements
of the island (Africans, Indians…) and also by the
musical inspirations from all around the world.
The priority is to offer all these genuine creations
to as many people as possible and also to g i v e
to the concerned artists an artistic support and
a coach for personal development.
Du mélange de sa musique traditionnelle,
le Maloya, héritage des esclaves, enrichie des
sonorités et des rythmes apportés par le
peuplement de l’Ile (Africains, Malgaches,
Indiens…) ainsi que l’afflux des différents
courants musicaux du monde entier, naissent
des styles, inclassables parfois, que le label
“ Akord’ ” se propose de défendre. Faire
découvrir ces particularités au plus grand
nombre, tout en offrant aux artistes concern é s
un développement artistique et un épanouissement dans un cadre professionnel, est la priorité
du label à La Réunion comme ailleurs.

It all started by a meeting between Ti Rat, an Indian
Ocean's Reggae Singer, and Yann Costa who recorded
Danyèl Waro's latest album (WOMEX Artist Award 2010).
Under Costa's fingers the Root Reggae Band, enriched by
all his filters and effects becomes a Live Trance Machine
Dub to take the crowd into a mystical trance. From Roots

Ti Rat est un Rasta de l’Océan Indien. Un jour, sur la route,
il rencontre Yann Costa, musicien et ingénieur du son qui a
réalisé le dernier album de Danyèl Waro (Womex Artist
Award 2010). La magie opère et le groupe de Reggae
Roots, enrichi par tous les filtres et effets de Costa, devient

Since the 70s, Ziskakan has been
promoting Reunion Island's language and
culture through a fusion of maloya, sega
(Reunion Island rh y t h m s), Indian drums,
reggae, jazz and pop. The band has
released 10 albums, performed in Reunion

They won several international prizes.
