Cold Lake Chrysler: big city dealership in a small town
Courier Lifestyle
Allan
Kjarsgaard,
general
manager
of
Cold
Lake
Chrysler,
would love it if you
bought your next car
or truck from a big-city
dealership.
“That’s us,” he said.
“We are in the same
league as the dealers in
Edmonton or anywhere
else,” Kjarsgaard said.
“We consider ourselves to
be a big-city dealer. We
just happen to be right
here in Cold Lake.”
For
car
buyers,
that translates into low
pressure “big-city” saving
and the local angle
means much more than
just convenience.
“We’re a part of
this community, and
that means we have to
perform. When you drive
off the lot from an outof-town dealer, you’re
gone and forgotten,”
Kjarsgaard said. “But
you’re going to see us
in the grocery store
or at our kids’ soccer
games. That’s small-town
life.”
“It’s great to bump
into one of our customers
and ask them how they’re
enjoying their new car,
or answer their service
questions. When you’re
honest
and
upfront
with people, you can be
comfortable meeting up
with them in town.”
“Word travels fast
in smaller centres, so
it’s important that the
news is always good,”
he said.

Prioritize Portion Size!
Derek Coe,
Health Promotion
Manager
When I ask people
what it means to eat
healthy, almost everyone
provides the obvious
answers: eat good food
like fruits and vegetables,
eat breakfast, and eat
three meals per day plus
snacks. Although these
are part of a healthy
diet, they miss one key
element: portion sizes,
or the overall amount
of food you eat. This
is important because
although everything you
eat could be considered
healthy,
eating
too
much can still cause
complications.
So this week, the
Dietitians of Canada are
encouraging everyone to
“Prioritize Portion Size!”
to prevent ourselves
from overeating. There
are
a
number
of
different ways that we
can do this.
First,
we
need
to
understand
what
a portion is, what a
serving is, and what is
the difference between
the two. To answer this,
visualize two of your
plates at home side by
side. Let’s call them Plate
A and Plate B.
On Plate A, place one
slice of bread. On Plate B,
place 10 slices of bread.
Despite the fact that
each plate has a different
amount of bread, both
plates represent one
portion of food. But each
plate holds a different
number of servings.
According to the
Canada Food Guide,
Plate A would have
one standard serving
of grain, while plate B
would have 10 standard as everyone needs a
amount
of
servings of grain. So different

gender
and

is, while each portion this, the typical North

So to get started,
Canada Food Guide. The
larger the portion, the visualize your plates

plate? If so, it’s likely too
much.
The ideal plate is
eight inches in diameter.
Now that doesn’t mean
you should go out and
buy new plates, but
maybe start leaving some
room on your plate. An
eight inch plate, if not
over-filled,
essentially
has four servings of food
on it: one serving of
meat (1/4 of the plate);
one serving of grain (1/4
of the plate); and two
servings of vegetables
(1/2 of the plate). Have
some milk or water on
the side, some fruit for
dessert, and there you
have it: a well-balanced
meal that’s not too much
food!

MFRC Announces Women’s Conference Facilitators
Paige Lawson, MFRC
The 2016 MFRC
Women’s
Conference
brings out some of the
best and brightest talent
in the Cold Lake area.
This year the MFRC
has
partnered
with
fifteen local businesses
and
individuals
to
provide hands-on and
educational workshops
during the conference.
Here
are
the
first
five
facilitators
who are opening our
conference on April 9th.
Watch for more next
week!
Danielle
Allard
(Session:
Yoga
for
Everyone): Danielle is upbeat, high-energy and
loves everything about
fitness and nutrition!
She is the Fitness
and Sports Instructor
for Personal Support
Programs
(PSP)
at
4 Wing.
Tammy
Franz
(Session: “Your Skin Is
the Canvas, and You Are
The Artist”): Tammy
is a military wife and
mom to three amazing
children! Her love affair
with makeup started at a
young age and continues
to this day. She has been
a sales representative
for Mary Kay and more
recently, Younique. She
believes the base for
good-looking makeup is
great skin care. There is
a skin care and makeup
routine for even the
busiest woman, let’s find
yours!
Melodie Baskerville
(Session: Chakras &
Crystals): After a lifealtering health scare,
Melodie turned to holistic
healing for help. She
embraced the concept
of treating the whole
person, mind, body and
soul, and believes there is
more to healthcare than
just treating the physical
body.
Cath Aust (Session:
Stained Glass): Cathy
has been working with
stained glass since 1981,
and has lived in Cold
Lake for nine years. Her
love of stained glass has
allowed her to explore
new modalities such as
fused glass and mosaic
work.
Melanie Joy Mitchell
(Session: She Shibori!):
Melanie
Mitchell
was born and raised
in
Miramichi,
New
Brunswick. She studied
at the New Brunswick
College of Craft and
Design (NBCCD) in
Fredericton, graduating
in 2008 with diplomas in
Surface/Textile Design
and Fashion Design. She
taught at NBCCD for
seven years in the Textile
and Fashion Design
Departments.
Melanie
has facilitated over 50
Shibori and Silk Painting
workshops to women and
men from all over the
world. Melanie moved to
Cold Lake in 2015, and
looks forward to sharing
her obsession with texture,
colour, and her skills in
fashion and design.

Capricorn - December 22 - January 19
Don’t underestimate the power of persuasion,
Capricorn. The idea is sound, but you’re going to
have to talk it up in order to get it implemented.
Aquarius - January 20 - February 18
Less really is more, at least in this instance, Aquarius.
Pare down and opt for simplicity over complexity. A
peacekeeping mission at home proves successful.
Pisces - February 19 - March 20
Perfectionist you may be, Pisces, but not everyone
shares your philosophy. If you’re enlisting help, be
prepared for all of the flaws that will come with it.
Aries - March 21 - April 19
Romantic gestures are returned, and passion burns
bright. A weekend getaway will cap off the week
nicely, Aries. A request is granted, with conditions.
Taurus - April 20 - May 20
Solitude is hard to come by these days, Taurus.
You may have to steal a few moments to yourself.
A crisis in faith comes to a screeching halt with an
intervention.
Gemini - May 21 - June 21
Face the facts, Gemini. Few people are 100% liked
all of the time. If you have to ruffle a few feathers at
home to get stuff done, then do it.
Cancer - June 22 - July 22
Like it or lump it, Cancer. There is no middle ground
on this one. It is all or nothing. A child makes an
outrageous request. Honor it if you can.
Leo - July 23 - August 22
Lucky Leo. Mistakes from the past are long forgotten
and rewards are given freely. A change in venue
spells good news for an upcoming event.
Virgo - August 23 - September 22
Advice comes from all corners this week, Virgo. It
would pay you to listen. There is a lot to learn, more
than you realize. Flowers brighten a senior’s day.
Libra - September 23 - October 22
Lady luck smiles on you, allowing you to dream the
impossible. Go for it, Libra. It’s yours for the taking. A
fitness goal moves within reach with a new piece of
equipment.
Scorpio - October 23 - November 21
You’re a class act, Scorpio, and all the right people
know it. Your talents are about to be called upon. Do
not disappoint. A loved one returns a favor.
Sagittarius - November 22 - December 21
Who knew, Sagittarius. You knew, and now you know
better than to keep something that crucial to yourself.
An event is rescheduled to a later date.
