Le superbe trompettiste Tom Harrell, qui a publié des
enregistrements en tant que leader depuis 1989, a un nouvel
album, Something Gold, Something Blue, sur HighNote avec
son collègue trompettiste Ambrose Akinmusire, ainsi que
le guitariste Charles Altura, le bassiste Ugonna Okegwo
et le batteur Johnathan Blake. Harrell est un arrangeur et
compositeur prolifique et une présence encore fascinante et
mystérieuse dans ses concert et le studio. Son curriculum
vitae est impressionnant, avec des contributions à des bandes
dirigées par Stan Kenton, Horace Silver et Joe Lovano. Il a
écrit les partitions pour des ballets et des arrangements pour
orchestres symphoniques et son dernier album HighNote „First
Impressions“ (HCD 7276) était dans le Top dix des meilleurs
albums de jazz de 2015 dans le sondage de la 64e Annual
Downbeat Critic’s alors que Akinmusire et Harrell ont pris les
deux premières places dans la catégorie de la trompette dans
le même sondage.
