This project aims to create a ‘phenomenlogical’ experience when perceiving garden art. It combines two
ideas ; ‘hanging gardens’ and ‘lookout point’. The
observation tower ‘Le Phare’ is constructed from local
wooden materials (pine, etc.), and measures 30,3 meters
in height. It is situated in the northeast side of Grand Metis. The tower has three levels of ‘hanging gardens’ wich
contains a variety of flowers and herb gardens. Below
the tower the visitor can access the St. Lawrence River
from a small jetty, and have a contemplative exprience
with it. As the visitor walks up the tower the scent of
herbs and flowers become more apparent. The visitor
can pick some mint, or thyme, to make some tea, or just
for cooking purposes. From these hanging gardens, the
visitor has a view of the other gardens in the festival just
below. At the top of the tower there is a ‘prairie garden’
which creates an interesting blend with the surrounding
landscape, and the visitor is presented finally with a stunning landscape view of the river, and whales, if lucky.
