THE STORY OF éQuinoxe
The non-profit organization éQuinoxe was created in 1993 with the objective
of holding two writing workshops per year to bring together selected
screenwriters from all over the world and internationally
known cinema professionals.

Over the course of five days, the selected screenwriters will present their screenplays to screenwriters, directors,
and professionals from different cultural sectors.
A dialogue between participating screenwriters and film professionals,these individual consultations will identify
a screenplay’s strengths and will improve its weaknesses, opening the way to a generation of films by “commercial
authors”: (Author’s films that are aimed at the public in order to attract an international audience)
The blending of cultures, the sharing of methodology, will lead naturally to greater cultural diversity.

Pendant 5 jours, les scénaristes sélectionnés soumettent leurs scénarios aux regards de scénaristes,
metteurs en scènes, intervenants venus de tous horizons culturels.
Basées sur un dialogue entre scénaristes participants et intervenants professionnels, ces consultations individuelles
permettent de souligner les points forts du scénario et d’améliorer ses faiblesses, donnant ainsi jour à une génération
de films d’auteurs commerciaux, c’est à dire un contenu de film d’auteur mais ouvert sur un plus large public
afin de renconter une audience internationale.
Le mélange des cultures et les échanges de méthodologie donnent naturellement accès à une plus grande diversité cuturelle.

correspondent offices world-wide, 300 screenwriters selected, 300 prestigious
participants, 90 produced films, made, distributed and selected in many festivals.

A workshop for experienced screenwriters, who have had one or more their scripts made.
In 2007, we proudly inaugurated the Evian / éQuinoxe « Rendez-Vous Cinema « in partnership
with the United Nations Regional Information Centre (UNRIC) of Bruxelles.
This event was created for international filmmakers, the authors of engaged, commercially viable films
to meet and raise awareness about specific themes.

qui débute aujourd’hui est avant
tout l’histoire d’une rencontre
Au moment de l’année où tombent les jolis cristaux de neige, le magnifique Evian Royal Resort
souhaite la bienvenue aux scénaristes qui participent à ce nouveau voyage d’Equinoxe.
Pendant que ces flocons donnent naissance à un vrai miracle de la nature, l’eau d’Evian, dotée
d’une pureté ultime et parfaitement équilibrée après une filtration de 15 ans dans les glaciers des
Alpes, ces scénaristes se réunissent pour que leur inspiration magique donne vie à une nouvelle
expérience cinématographique.
Douée d’un sens ludique, d’un esprit jeune et avant-gardiste ainsi qu’un désir d’excellence, cette
génération d’artistes inspirés réjouira et renouvellera demain le cinéma d’aujourd’hui. Ces mêmes

To evoke the « writing workshops ‘ of the non-profit association Equinoxe’s in the best way possible,
it is essential to use simple words and formulas. And that is precisely what is difficult. Simplicity, applied
to art or any other area, is a form of refinement. In the context of human relationships, it is also a mark
of authenticity.
The producers, actors or screenwriters who participate in these workshops, whether they come from Hollywood, Paris or elsewhere, have carried, at a moment in their lives, the most exalting film projects.
They can (and let us acknowledge that we are waiting for this a little bit…) embody the unavailability
of stars, or the distant sophistication that is often so representative of idolized artists. And this is what
is most surprising: for one week, they live in our hotels and occupy our park, spas and restaurants as
tranquil, relaxed and friendly guests. This well-being, which we promise ourselves to build for them through
the irreproachable and warm service that is our trademark, they also brought to us. As the days pass, their
presence not only became familiar and pleasant for us and our guests, it also became natural, an evidence.
The Evian Royal Resort, built at the beginning of the XXth century, holds the memory of the rarest
of guests and reconstructs this memory in it’s own time, in a color, perfume or light.

Pour évoquer les « ateliers d’écriture de l’association Equinoxe » de la façon la plus juste possible,
il est essentiel de trouver des formules et des mots simples. Et c’est justement cela qui est difficile.
La simplicité, qu’on l’applique à l’art ou à tout autre domaine, est une forme de raffinement.
Dans les relations entre les hommes c’est aussi une marque d’authenticité.
Les producteurs, réalisateurs, acteurs ou scénaristes qui participent à ces ateliers, qu’ils viennent d’Hollywood,
de Paris ou d’ailleurs, ont à un moment de leur vie porté les films ou les projets de film les plus exaltants.
Ils pourraient (reconnaissons qu’on s’y attendrait presque un peu…) Incarner l’inaccessibilité des stars
ou cette sophistication distante qui est souvent l’apanage des artistes divinisés.
Et voilà peut-être le plus surprenant : ils habitent pendant une semaine notre parc et nos hôtels,
nos spas et nos restaurants, en hôtes tranquilles, détendus et amicaux. Ce bien-être que nous nous étions
promis de construire pour eux à travers ce service en même temps irréprochable et chaleureux q
ui est notre marque de fabrique, ils nous l’apporte eux- même. Au fil des jours, leur présence devient,
pour nous et pour nos clients, agréable et familière et plus encore : évidente.
L’Evian Royal Resort, construit au début du vingtième siècle, garde le souvenir de ses hôtes les plus rares

Continuous training of professionals and talented individuals is essential to reinforce the competitiveness
of the European audiovisual industry, a core objective of the Media programme of the European Union.
That is why ever since its beginnings in 1990 the Media programme has devoted a substantial amount of its budget
to co-finance training initiatives developed by professionals for professionals. More than 2000 professionals coming
from countries participating in the Media programme are trained every year through Media funded training initiatives where
they have the opportunity to acquire new skills, learn from others’ mistakes or successes; fine-tune their projects
thanks to experienced tutors; explore new technologies or expand their contact base.
For the last years, Media has actively supported éQuinoxe training activities as they offer an adequate reply to European
professionals’ needs in the field of scriptwriting and development of films.
The Mediaprogramme wish all éQuinoxe participants fruitful exchanges and luck in their projects.

La formation continue des professionnels et des talents est essentielle pour renforcer la compétitivité de l’industrie
audiovisuelle européenne, un objectif global du programme Média de l’UE. Depuis sa création en 1990, le programme Média
a utilisé une grande part de son budget pour co-financer les programmes de formation créés par les professionnels
pour les professionnels. Plus de 2000 professionnels issus des pays participant au programme Média suivent une formation
pour accroître leurs compétences, apprendre des échecs ou réussites des autres, perfectionner leurs projets grâce aux professionnels expérimentés, explorer des nouvelles technologies ou élargir leur réseau de contacts.
Ces dernières années, Média a soutenu l’association éQuinoxe car elle répond aux besoins des professionnels européens
dans les techniques d’écriture des scénarios et le développement des projets de film.
Le programme Média souhaite à tous les participants d’éQuinoxe des rencontres fructueuses et bonne chance à leur projets.

It’s with great pleasure that the city of Evian, whose name is associated with the Lumiere brothers, the creators’ of cinematography, welcomes the eQuinoxe’s Screenwriting Workshops. The City of Évian is happy to be associated with this event along
with the Royal Evian Resort. For the past 15 years, the éQuinoxe association has organized screenwriting workshops,
which bring together selected screenwriters who present their work to internationally renowned film professionals.
The screenwriting workshops, created and run with passion by Noëlle Deschamps, are well known all over the world.
The éQuinoxe label is precious, for more than half of the scripts worked on during the workshops are produced, either
as films “d’auteur” or as commercial, in the best sense of the term, films, many of which are successful. We will do everything
we can to ensure that these encounters enjoy the success that they deserve.
To all those participating, I welcome you to Evian.

C’est avec grand plaisir que la ville d’Évian dont le nom est associé aux frères Lumière, inventeurs du cinématographe accueille
les ateliers d’écriture éQuinoxe. À cette occasion, la Ville d’Evian est heureuse de s’associer à la manifestation aux côtés de l’Evian
Royal Resort. Depuis 15 ans, l’association éQuinoxe organise dans le cadre de ces ateliers, des rencontres entre des scénaristes
sélectionnés venant du monde entier qui soumettent leurs travaux aux regards aiguisés de professionnels du cinéma ayant
une notoriété internationale.
En effet, la renommée de ces ateliers créés et animés avec passion par Noëlle Deschamps est internationale. Le label éQuinoxe
est précieux car presque la moitié des scénarios retravaillés lors des ateliers voit le jour sous forme de films d’auteur ou de films
populaires au meilleur sens du terme, dont beaucoup sont des succès.
Que ces rencontres recueillent justement tout le succès qu’elles méritent.
Soyez en tout cas persuadés que nous mettrons tout en oeuvre, en ce qui nous concerne, pour qu’il en soit ainsi.

The CNC is a publicly-owned establishment placed under the authority of France’s Ministry of Culture and Communication.
The principal missions of the CNC are the regulation, the support and the promotion of three sectors:
cinema, audio-visual and multi-media projects.
To encourage the creativity and the body of work of authors is one of the CNC’s main priorities and it is to further
this objective that the CNC has chosen to support the éQuinoxe association, which has accomplished remarkable

The United Nations organization, through the intermediary of its Regional Information Centre, is proud to be associated
with the Evian éQuinoxe “Rendez-Vous Cinema,” on the theme of climate change.
The UN was created over 60 years ago to work toward establishing a better world. Certainly, many things have changed since 1945,
and the organization has had to continuously adapt to meet the new challenges that have emerged through the years.
Today, the challenges facing the international community are increasingly transnational, and no state can confront them alone,
or in an isolated manner. The UN is thus in a unique situation to unite the efforts of the international community.
It is the sole organization with a planetary calling that regroups all states benefitting from an international legitimacy.
Yet, if these transnational challenges call for a coordinated effort by theses nations, one must not doubt that the solution
to these problems, such as climate change, call for a change in behavior and the commitment of every individual.
As such, this new edition of our “Rendez Vous Cinema” contributes in a marked way towards raising awareness and involving
the public. It is of great relevance to us, as we move toward renegotiating, next year in Stockholm, the United Nations Framework
Convention on Climate Change.
Fashion finally collaborates with cinema. The Gérard Darel house insisted on giving its support to the association éQuinoxe TBC and
her president Noëlle Dechamps whose goal is helping screenwriters improve their work and collaborating in their overall
advancement towards producing their screenplays. For the past 25 years, Gérard Darel has had a passion for Cinema.
Natassja Kinski, Brooke Shields and Charlotte Gainsbourg, among many others, have all been his ambassadors throughout the world.
A foretaste of its commitment to supporting today’s cinema.
Since uniFrance is an institution whose sole commitment is supporting French cinema throughout the world,
it applauds and encourages éQuinoxe, a non-profit company which organizes workshops inviting French and international
screenwriters to collaborate. From these meetings, common projects are conceived, films are produced and distributed
all over the world. Thus, uniFrance is proud to welcome the many projects of this year’s edition of éQuinoxe.

L’Organisation des Nations Unies se félicite d¹être associée, par l’intermédiaire de son Centre régional d’information,
aux « Rendez-vous Cinéma » avec Evian eQuinoxe, sur le thème du changement climatique.
L’ONU a été créée il y a maintenant un peu plus de 60 ans pour travailler à l’instauration d’un monde meilleur. Certes, beaucoup de choses ont changé depuis 1945 et l’Organisation a du s’adapter continuellement pour faire face à de nouveaux
défis apparaissant au fil des ans.
Aujourd’hui, les défis qui confrontent la communauté internationale sont de plus en plus transfrontières et nul Etat ne peut
les affronter seul, de façon isolée. L’ONU a donc une situation unique pour fédérer les efforts de la communauté internationale :
elle est la seule organisation à vocation planétaire, qui en regroupant tous les Etats, bénéficient de la légitimité internationale.
Toutefois, si les défis transfrontières appellent une action coordonnée au niveau des États, il ne fait pas de doute que la solution
de problèmes comme le changement climatique appelle un changement d’attitude et un engagement de chacun.
En ce sens, cette nouvelle édition de nos « Rendez-vous Cinéma » contribue de façon appréciable à l’entreprise de sensibilisation
et de mobilisation du public et présente un grand intérêt pour nous, alors que nous nous acheminons ves la renégociation,
l’an prochain à Stockolm, de la Convention-cadre sur le changement climatique.
La mode a décidé de se conjuguer avec le cinéma. La maison Gérard Darel a tenu à apporter son soutien à l’association
éQuinoxe TBC et à sa présidente Noëlle Deschamps dont l’objet est d’aider des scénaristes à améliorer leur œuvre
pour la voir un jour se réaliser. Depuis 25 ans, Gérard Darel se passionne pour le 7e art. Natassja Kinski, Brooke Shields,
Charlotte Gainsbourg, ont été leurs ambassadrices à travers le monde. Un avant-goût de son engagement pour soutenir
le cinéma d’aujourd’hui.
UniFrance, organisme de promotion du cinéma français à l’international, ne pouvait qu’applaudir et encourager éQuinoxe
qui favorise les échanges en proposant à des scénaristes français et étrangers de se réunir. De ces rencontres naissent
des projets. De ces projets naissent des films qui voyagent dans le monde entier. Unifrance souhaite donc la bienvenue
à tous les projets cinématographiques qui verront le jour grâce à cette nouvelle édition d’éQuinoxe.
