CHAPTER 4: LESSON SPECIFICATIONS COURSE TITLE: GREEN STAR COURSE CTS NUMBER: ENABLING OBJECTIVE AND TEACHING POINTS DRILL: 401.15 1. PERFORMANCE — Execute the failing-in and falling-out of ranks. 2. TRAINING DETAILS 5. TIME: 6. METHOD/APPROACH: CONDITIONS: a. Given — (1) words of command, and (2) squad. b. Denied — assistance. 4-7/4-32 assuming the position of attention, marching to the right flank of the squad and proceeding in the required direction; b. marching to the left of the squad and behind his/her rank when falling-in; c. wheeling out of and into position; and d. halting and taking their former dressing. 4. TEST DETAILS — Each cadet will be checked independently to execute the required movements. 11. REMARKS: a. Lesson should be conducted in squad formation; b. Instructor must check individuals for basic skills at all times; c. An assistant should be used for this lesson. One instructor can be calling individuals, and the assistant can check basic skills; and d. Individuals should take the shortest distance to report; e. Review procedure for receiving an award as an individual; and f. Review procedure for reporting to an officer. A-CR-CCP-118/PH-001 a. One 30 minute period. 7. SUBSTANTIATION — This drill movement is used when individuals are called forward to report from the ranks and when individuals receive awards 3. STANDARD — The cadet will fall in and-out of ranks at the open order in accordance with references by: a. A-CR-CCP-116/PC-001 A-CR-CCP-121/PT-001 EO 401.15: FALL IN AND FALL OUT OF RANKS FALLING OUT OF RANKS The command, "FALL – OUT", will be used when an individual is called out of the squad. On the command, "FALL – OUT" the cadet named will come to attention, march to the right of the flank of the squad in front of his/her rank, and then proceed in the required direction. FALLING INDIVIDUALS IN On the command, "FALL – IN", the cadet ordered marches to the left flank of the squad and returns to his/her position by marching in rear of his/her rank, wheeling into his/her original position, and halting. He/she will pick up his/her dressing and remain at attention or stand at ease, as required. 1-22 A-CR-CCP-121/PT-001 When called forward to receive an award (promotion, etc.), come to attention, observe the standard pause, march forward and right wheel, then march along the front of your own rank to the right marker. From the right marker take the most direct route to the person who called you out, halting two paces in front. After saluting (as required), observe the standard pause then step forward one pace to receive the award. After receiving the award, take one step back and salute (if required). After observing the standard pause, turn right, pause then march off, taking the most direct route back to your own rank’s left marker. March in behind your rank, wheel and halt in position. Stand at ease after observing the standard pause. EO 401.16: ABOUT TURN ON THE MARCH On the command, "ABOUT – TURN", given as the right foot is forward and on the ground, squad members will: a. take a 35 cm (15 in.) pace with the left foot; b. bring the right foot in to the left, in a straight-leg manner above the ground, to the position of attention; c. simultaneously, cut the right arm down and the left in from the rear as the left foot comes in; d. maintain the cadence; e. maintain the arms at the sides; f. pivot on the sole of the right foot to force the body through a turn of 90 degrees to the right; g. simultaneously, bend the left knee so that the thigh is parallel to the ground; h. then lower the leg smartly to the ground to assume the position of attention; j. maintain the arms at the sides; k. pivot on the sole of the left foot to force the body through a turn of 90 degrees to the right; m. simultaneously, bend the right knee so the thigh is parallel to the ground; n. then lower the leg smartly to the ground to assume the position of attention; and p. step off in quick time with a 35 cm (15 in.) pace with the left foot in the new direction. 1-23 A-PD-201-000/PT-000 Figure 2-14 Figure 2-14 Falling out of Individuals Façon de quitter les rangs DISMISSING A SQUAD FAÇON DE ROMPRE LES RANGS 101. TIME: 1 x 30 Minutes TIME: 4 Minutes PAYING COMPLIMENTS WITH A SQUAD ON THE MARCH Practice the following movements with the cadets calling, then judging the time: a. marking time; and b. forward and halting. INTRODUCTION TIME: 1 Minute WHAT: During this period of instruction you will learn how to fall out of ranks and how to fall in. WHY: This drill movement is used when individuals are called forward from the ranks or when an individual is called to fall in. WHERE: Individuals fall out of ranks in order to report to officers, and to receive awards or promotions. III Have a second instructor demonstrate if available. Fall In: The command “FALL - IN” is given when the individual is required to return to his/her squad. When this command is given: a. II Commands: “FALL - OUT”, and “FALL - IN”. TIME: 12 Minutes Fall Out: The command “FALL - OUT” shall be used when an individual is called out of the squad. When this command is given: a. 3. FALLING OUT OF AND INTO RANKS Demonstrate Complete Movement: The squad shall be at the open order when individuals are required to fall out. a. 2. INSTR NOTES Practice falling out of ranks and falling in. Ensure that each cadet is given the opportunity to do so a number of times. STAGE 2: 1. FALLING OUT TO ADDRESS AN OFFICER OR TO RECEIVE AN AWARD Falling Out to Receive an Award or to Address an Officer: The procedure for falling out of ranks is the same in these instances, but when the individual reaches the officer, he or she must do the following: 2/3 Correct faults and check basic skills. TIME: 8 Minutes IV a. fall out of ranks as detailed above when their name is called; b. approach the officer and halt within two paces of them; c. salute; d. when receiving an award, take one half pace (35 cm) forward with the left foot, bring the right foot in to the position of attention, receive the award in the left hand and shake hands with the right (right hand passes under the left); e. after receiving the award, take one half pace back; f. salute; g. make a right turn and fall back into ranks as detailed above. CONFIRMATION STAGE 2 1. Practice falling out of ranks to receive an award or to address an officer. Ensure that each cadet has the opportunity to do so several times. PERFORMANCE CHECK I Stress the importance of sharp personal drill. Correct faults and check basic skills. TIME: 6 Minutes Cadets must execute falling out and falling in of ranks. 1. Execute the movements required to fall out of ranks and to fall in. 2. Execute the movements required to fall out to accept an award or to address an officer. CONCLUSION SUMMARY: RE-MOTIVATE: TIME: 1 Minute A. During this period of instruction you have learned how to fall out of ranks and how to fall in. B. You must know how to do this when called out of ranks by an officer to speak to them, to receive an award or to perform some other task. A. Comment on student progress. B.
