Getting Started
Following the 3 Steps below, visit www.techsoupcanada.ca/user/register—
to register your organization to be eligiable to request donated software and
hardware through the TechSoup Canada Product Donations Program.
Step 1
Registeration
By registering your organization with TechSoup Canada, you will be able to
request product donations from the TechSoup Canada Product Donations
Program.
Registration also offers you access to the TechSoup Canada forums and other
useful community resources. Only one TechSoup Canada member can act as an
authorized agent for an organization.
* Techsoup Canada will need to confirm that your organization meets the
required Eligibility Criteria before you are able to place an order. You must
provide supporting documents to verify your organization’s nonprofit or
charitable status.
Step 2
Eligibility
In order to participate in the TechSoup Canada Product Donations Program,
Canadian organizations are required to meet both the general eligibility criteria
outlined below and those required by individual Donor Partners. To learn more,
visit: www.techsoupcanada.ca/eligibility.
Eligible organizations:
• Canadian charities must be registered with the Canada Revenue Agency
• Canadian nonprofits must be registered with their provinces or territories
• Canadian public libraries must appear on a list collected by the Public Library - • •
• Services Branch, Ministry of Education in British Columbia.
• Need to submit proper documentation (business registration documentation
• for nonprofits; written proof of charitable status from Canadian Revenue Agency)
• to verify their nonprofit or charitable status.
Step 3
Requesting
Once your organization has been registered and TechSoup Canada has confirmed
that your organization meets the required Eligibility Criteria for at least one of our
Donor Partners, please review the Donor Partner guidelines before placing an
order. After reviewing the guidelines, please proceed with logging into the
online shop using your organization’s username and password.
You can then browse a desired Donor Partner’s products, and decide which
products that you would like to request by adding that Donor Partner’s products
to your cart. You can view the items in your cart at any time. When you have
finished selecting items from a Donor Partner, proceed to checkout.
At checkout, you will be provided with a summary of your order and confirmation
of your delivery address. If you are satisfied with your order, proceed to
payment, and provide credit card information via PayPal to TechSoup Canada.
(A PayPal account is not required for online payment, although you have the option of
logging into your PayPal account for faster service.)

SA - Software Assurance: is a Microsoft program
that allows recipients to upgrade licenses to any
new release of eligible products within two years
of the initial request. This means free upgrades for
software that comes with Software Assurance
within this two-year period. Software Assurance
replaces the need to request upgrades for your
organization’s volume licenses.
S-MLs - Server Management Licenses: are required
for each operating system environment (OSE)
running a server operating system and a client ML
is required for each nonserver OSE.
C-MLs - Client Management Licenses: are required
for each operating system environment (OSE)
running a server operating system and a client ML
is required for each nonserver OSE.

PL - Processor Licenses: you need a separate
processor license for each processor used or
recognized by the server operating system. In a
physical operating system environment, you need
as many processor licenses as the hardware has
processors. In a virtual operating system, you need
the same number of licenses as the number of
processors the virtual system recognizes.
CALs - Client Access Licenses: user CAL authorizes
one user to access Exchange Server’s additional
features on computers or other devices.
User Box/License: a license grants permission to an
individual or group to use a software application.
The license is both printed on the box and considered to be in effect as soon as you open the box. It
may also show up on one of the early screens when
you install the program. In either case, the license
dictates restrictions on how the software can be
copied, modified, and distributed.

Q1: I want to obtain software through TechSoup Canada. How do I get started?
The first step is to register your organization at TechSoup Canada (there’s no charge). You’ll be asked to
provide documentation of your nonprofit or charitable status. Then, browse our online catalog of
donated software and place a request for the tools that will help you. See our Getting Started Guide
for step-by-step help: www.techsoupcanada.ca/getting_started.
Q2: Which donated products is my organization eligible for? What can I request right now?
Each one of our partner’s donation programs (such as Microsoft, Cisco, etc.) is independent and has
separate eligibility guidelines. You can request software from as many different donantion programs
as you qualify for—and most nonprofits are eligible for many. The best way to determine if your
organization can receive software is to visit TechSoup Canada’s Web site and find the software product
you’re interested in, and review the eligibility requirements, www.techsoupcanada.ca/eligibility.
Q3: Can I request from more than one donation program?
Yes! Each of the donation programs at TechSoup has independent guidelines, and your organization
may be eligible for products from multiple donation programs. You will need to fill your cart with
products from one donor partner at a time, and proceed through to payment, before continuing with
a second donor’s partner’s products.
Q4: Why do you charge administrative fees?
The TechSoup Canada Product Donations Program charges an administrative fee for each request
processed. The fee covers the cost of administering the donation program, and helps to defray the
cost of providing free technology learning content and events. Administrative fees vary by product
but charities and nonprofits are saving between 92-96% on typical retail prices.
Q5: How can I pay for my order?
Payments can be made by credit card (Master Card, Visa, Amex) through the online shop via PayPal to
TechSoup Canada. A PayPal account is not required for online payment, although you have the option
of loging into your PayPal account for faster service. Sign-up for a PayPal account: www.paypal.ca.
