From the creation of the Encyclopédie to the Revolution» My project attempts to show how, beyond modern treatises on political law, lexicography in the Enlightenment, aimed at forming public opinion and reforming society. As a compilation of knowledge, sphere of debate, vehicle for ideas and instrument of political struggle serving discordant ideologies, the 18th-century French Encyclopedia and later lexicographic works revisit and spread legal knowledge. At the same time, they play a considerable part in forming a new mentality and constructing a new legal framework, more rational and respectful towards human freedom and dignity.
