PHILIPPE DAERENDINGER / SACHIN KAELEY / WYATT KAHN / DAVINA SEMO
PHILIPPE DAERENDINGER
Fascinated by the standardized construction elements, including fixation and assembly systems that
can be found in DIY stores, Philippe Daerendinger makes works, which are half sculptures half
objects, sometimes monumental, sometimes domestic. Improbable forms made by assembling
utilitarian objects, that become useless once they enter into the field of art, hybrid forms, mix of
personal stories, artistic references and interest for the behaviour of the materials, these ambiguous
pieces question the status of the work – from the creation process to its identification as art.
*1984, lives and works in Lausanne. Graduated from ECAL, Philippe Daerendinger has shown his works in several
exhibitions in Switzerland and France ; he had a solo show at FORDE in Geneva in 2011 entitled « Pièces
d’origine+, and participated in group shows in galleries and art spaces such as Blancpain gallery in Geneva, CAN in
Neuchâtel, Circuit, 1m3 or Curtat Tunnel in Lausanne.
SACHIN KAELEY
Sachin Kaeley works on small-scale paintings concerned with the processes that explore the
breadth of emergence and erasure of the image. Invested in the inherent function of the chosen
materials used to execute each work, abstract painting is at play with the notion of what constitutes
an image, or object, or passage of time. Using methods ranging from repetitious labour, cropping
and placement, the processes are to remain visible in numerous instances and erased in others
causing the viewer to inspect the object rather than look at it.
*1982, lives and works in London. Recently graduated from the Royal College of Art of London, Sachin Kealey
presented his works in several exhibitions in Europe and USA ; and will participate in a show at Palais de Tokyo in
Paris this year.
WYATT KAHN
Made with raw canvas stretched on chassis of different shapes, Wyatt Kahn works evoke both the
structure of rocks, crystals or microscopic organisms, and refer to modernism (including the
shaped canvases by Frank Stella), as well as minimalism and constructivism. Breaking with the
traditional form of the painting, they open onto the neighbouring space – showing sometimes
what’s behind – and question the way in which we perceive painting, interacting with surrounding
works and objects.
*1983, lives and works in New York. Recently graduated from Hunter College in New York, Wyatt Kahn has shown
his work in several galleries and exhibition spaces in Europe and USA, including Hannah Barry in London and
DUVE in Berlin.
DAVINA SEMO
Working with materials such as mirrors, chains, safety glasses, reinforced concrete or spray paint,
Davina Semo creates a post-industrial world where reflections about the creative process,
references to the history of abstraction and her personal experiences are brought together. Broken
glasses, scratched mirrors or suspended chains suggest implied violence - a potential surging of
violence, deferred. While remaining extremely close to the materials, and playing with the language,
her works also evoke human relationships – power, gender, sexual and social relations.
*1981, lives and works in New York. She had an MFA at University of California, San Diego and had a lot of
exhibitions in Europe and USA, including at Martos Gallery and Rawson Projects in New York, and at Gabriel Rolt
gallery in Amsterdam.

PHILIPPE DAERENDINGER
Fasciné par les éléments de construction standardisés, notamment par les systèmes de fixation et
d’assemblage que l’on peut trouver dans les magasins de bricolage, Philippe Daerendinger réalise
des œuvres entre sculptures et objets, aux dimensions parfois monumentales, parfois domestiques.
Assemblages improbables d’objets utilitaires rendus inutiles par leur passage dans le champ de l’art,
hybridation des formes, mélange d’anecdotes personnelles, de références artistiques et d’intérêt
pour le comportement des matériaux, ces pièces ambigües questionnent le statut de l’œuvre – du
processus de création à son identification en tant qu’art.
*1984, vit et travaille à Lausanne. Diplômé de l’ECAL, Philippe Daerendinger a bénéficié de plusieurs expositions
en Suisse et en France, notamment « Pièces d’origine », exposition personnelle à FORDE en 2011, ainsi que
plusieurs expositions collectives en galeries et centres d’art tels que : la galerie Blancpain à Genève, le CAN de
Neuchâtel, Circuit, 1m3, Curtat Tunnel à Lausanne.
SACHIN KAELEY
Sachin Kaeley travaille sur des peintures de petit format qui explorent l’émergence de l’image ainsi
que son effacement. Marquée par la fonction première des matériaux utilisés pour composer
l’œuvre, la peinture abstraite interroge la notion de ce qui constitue l’image, l’objet, ou le passage du
temps. Utilisant des méthodes allant du travail répétitif, au cadrage et au déplacement, les processus
sont laissés visibles dans de nombreux cas, et effacés dans d’autres, poussant le regardeur à
inspecter l’œuvre plutôt qu’à simplement la regarder.
*1982, vit et travaille à Londres. Récemment diplômé du Royal College of Art de Londres, Sachin Kaeley a
présenté son travail dans plusieurs expositions en Europe et aux USA, et participera à une exposition au Palais de
Tokyo à Paris dans le courant de l’année.
WYATT KAHN
Composées de toile brute tendue sur des châssis de différentes formes, les œuvres de Wyatt Kahn
évoquent aussi bien la structure des roches, des cristaux ou des organismes microscopiques, et
font référence au modernisme (notamment aux shaped canvases de Frank Stella), en passant par le
minimalisme et le constructivisme. Rompant avec la forme traditionnelle du tableau, elles ouvrent sur
l’espace environnant – donnant parfois à voir ce qui se passe derrière – interrogeant la manière dont
on perçoit la peinture, en interaction avec les œuvres et objets qui l’entourent.

été montré dans de nombreuses galeries et lieux d’exposition, en Europe et aux USA, dont la galerie Hannah Barry
à Londres ou DUVE à Berlin.
DAVINA SEMO
Travaillant avec des matériaux tels que miroirs, chaînes, verres de sécurité, béton renforcé ou
peinture au spray, Davina Semo crée un univers post-industriel où se mêlent réflexions sur le
processus de création, renvois à l’histoire de l’abstraction et références personnelles. Verres brisés,
miroirs rayés ou chaînes suspendues suggèrent une violence contenue – un possible déchainement
de violence, différé. Tout en restant extrêmement proche des matériaux, et en jouant avec le
langage, les œuvres évoquent aussi les rapports humains – rapports de pouvoir, de genre, sexuels,
sociaux.
*1981, vit et travaille à New York. Titulaire d’un master de California, San Diego, elle a bénéficié de nombreuses
expositions en Europe et aux USA, notamment à Martos Gallery et Rawson Projects à New York, et à la galerie
Gabriel Rolt à Amsterdam.
