Depuis 1880, la maison Commelin conçoit et fabrique, à Paris, des
médailles et des bijoux alliant l’or 18 carats à l’émail précieux. Issue
d’un savoir faire hérité des maîtres verriers du Moyen Age, chaque
pièce est unique car entièrement émaillée à la main.
Since 1880, Commelin manufacturers, in Paris, has been enamelling
18Kt gold medals and fine jewellery. Adapted from ancestral knowledge
and techniques handed down from the master glass craftsmen of the
Middle Ages, each jewel is exclusively hand enamelled, thereby each
single piece is unique.

Au 19 ème siècle, sous Napoléon III, Théodore Commelin, modeste
bijoutier, fonde en plein cœur de Paris, une fabrique de bijouterie.
Au début du 20 ème siècle, Philippe Commelin, amoureux des émaux,
invente le Bijou Vitrail. Egalement passionné de miniatures, il se lance
dans la fabrication de breloques, bijoux porte bonheur. Dans la seconde
moitié du 20 ème siècle, Marie Simone Boutmy, développe l’affaire
familiale en lui donnant une nouvelle dimension : Commelin fait partie
des premiers joailliers français à vendre au Japon.
Aujourd’hui, Isabelle Latour, en adaptant à des créations contemporaines
les techniques mises au point par Philippe Commelin, a développé
une clientèle prestigieuse et a donné une notoriété internationale à
l’entreprise familiale. En France, les médailles et bijoux Commelin sont
présents dans de nombreuses joailleries et des boutiques de musées ou
d’établissements de renom (La Monnaie de Paris, Carrousel du Louvre,
la cathédrale Notre Dame, la Sainte Chapelle, la basilique du Sacré
Cœur, le château de Chambord, l’abbaye du Mont Saint Michel).
A l’étranger, les créations Commelin sont vendues au Japon à Tokyo
(Ginza, Shibuya), Osaka, Kyoto, Sapporo. On les trouve également dans
des boutiques à Shanghai, en Corée et en Australie.
In the 19th century, during the reign of Emperor Napoleon III, Théodore
Commelin, a simple jeweller, set up a workshop in the very heart of
Paris. At the beginning of the 20th century, Philippe Commelin, a
connoisseur of enamels, created enamelled jewels which were inspired
by the famous French cathedral rose windows. As a connoisseur of
miniatures too, he started making lucky charms including some faithful
reproductions of the most famous monuments of Paris.
During the second half of the 20th century, Marie Simone Boutmy, put
the family company on an international footing: Commelin was one of
the first French jewellers to sell in Tokyo.
Today, Isabelle Latour using the precious know-how and craftsmanship to create modern jewellery has developed a distinguished clientele
giving Commelin international renown. Commelin jewels are sold in
the most prestigious boutiques in France (the Louvre Carrousel, the
Cathedral of Notre Dame, the Arc de Triomphe, the Sainte Chapelle,
Sacre Coeur, Mont Saint Michel and the Chateau of Chambord to name
but a few). The Commelin collections are also to be found in Tokyo
(Ginza, Shibuya), Osaka, and Sapporo as well as in Shanghai, Seoul and
in Australia.

Dès l’Antiquité, les émaux ont été associés aux métaux précieux. De
nos jours, dans l’atelier parisien de Commelin, sont conçus et émaillés
des médailles et des bijoux raffinés qui font appel à ce savoir faire
rare. L’émail, de par sa texture précieuse, change de couleur selon l’intensité de la lumière. Le travail étant réalisé à la main, les couleurs et
dimensions de chaque bijou varient légèrement.
Since the very beginning enamels have been associated with the most
magnificent masterpieces of antique treasures. Today, some of the
very last enamel master craftsmen are still producing enamelled 18kt
gold medals and fine jewellery in Commelin’s workshop in Paris. The
enamel’s translucence allows the enamel to change colour with the
intensity of light. Since all our jewels are exclusively hand made their
size and weight may vary slightly.

La breloque, ou « charm » est un petit bijou figuratif généralement
porteur de message. Spécialiste du « charm ». Commelin est l’un des
plus anciens fabricants français de breloques en or 18 carats. La finesse
et la délicatesse de la sculpture de chaque modèle font de Commelin
une référence dans la profession. Près de 2000 modèles sont proposés.
Charms are tiny jewels, usually figurative miniatures, which hang from
women’s bracelets to bring good luck. Commelin is one of the oldest
French manufacturers of 18kt gold charms and the absolute accuracy
of their reproductions has made Commelin the number one specialist
in French charms. Commelin manufactures nearly 2000 different types
of charms.
