Al km 49, i fuggitivi hanno 8’ 06”. In vetta al Colle Gallo, prima asperità della corsa, transita per primo Benedetti (BOA) il quale si aggiudica il premio

forte recupero. Al km 194, Canola e Benedetti hanno 10” su Slagter, Barbin, Kwiatkowski, Wellens, Busato, Gesink e Van Winden; a 35” il gruppo. Sulla
Colma di Sormano, Kwiatkowski e Wellens transitano in testa, a pochi secondi il gruppo frazionato con Nibali in testa. Al km 200 i due fuggitivi hanno
25” di vantaggio su Slagter, Nibali, Landa Meana, Rosa, Benedetti, Pinot, Valverde, Chaves Rubio, Barguil, Moreno Fernandez, Gesink, Nieve Ituralde e
Poels. Lungo la discesa verso Nesso, rientrano nel gruppo dei tredici inseguitori anche Brambilla, Verona, Gallopin, Yates, Busato, Bennett, Henao
Montoya, Canola, Bardet e Vuillermoz. Al km 204, Kwiatkowski e Wellens conservano 34” di vantaggio sui ventitre inseguitori.
Al km 214, il vantaggio dei due fuggitivi è di 37” sui ventitre inseguitori. Al km 216, il vantaggio dei due fuggitivi è di 20” sui ventidue inseguitori (si è

se dégagent, suivis par sept autres coureurs au km 14 : Barbin (BAR), Coppel (IAM), De Negri (NIP), Busato (STH), Geschke (TGA), Van Winden (TLJ)
et Canola (UHC). Au km 24, les neuf échappés ont une avance de 14”. L’allure reste soutenue : 25,250 km ont été parcourus en seules 30 minutes. Au
km 24, Gatto (AND) et Benedetti (BOA) rejoignent les neuf avants-têtes. Le peloton, pointé à 21”, laisse faire ; au km 31, les 11 hommes de tête ont

peloton, toujours emmené par les hommes de l’Astana, accuse un retard de 2’12”.
Au km 188, au pied de la côte de la Colma di Sormano, Benedetti et Canola restent à l’avant de la course ; le peloton – sous l’impulsion des hommes de
l’Astana – est en train de combler la distance. Au km 194, Canola et Benedetti gardent 10” d’avance sur Slagter, Barbin, Kwiatkowski, Wellens, Busato,
Gesink et Van Winden ; le peloton est pointé à 35”. Kwiatkowski et Wellens franchissent la Colma di Sormano avec quelques secondes d’avance sur le
peloton, très étiré, emmené par Nibali. Au km 200, les deux échappés ont 25” d’avance sur Slagter, Nibali, Landa Meana, Rosa, Benedetti, Pinot,
Valverde, Chaves Rubio, Barguil, Moreno Fernandez, Gesink, Nieve Ituralde et Poels. Le long de la descente vers Nesso, Brambilla, Verona, Gallopin,
Yates, Busato, Bennett, Henao Montoya, Canola, Bardet et Vuillermoz rejoignent les treize poursuivants. Au km 204, Kwiatkowski et Wellens gardent
34” d’avance sur les 23 poursuivants.
Au km 214, les deux échappés ont 37” d’avance sur le groupe poursuivant. Au km 216, les deux hommes de tête ont 20” d’avance sur les 22
poursuivants (Canola s’est fait laisser sur place). À 25 km de l’arrivée, l’écart est de 16” ; au km 121 : 23”. Les échappés sont repris au km 225, le long
de la côte de Civiglio. Au km 226, un forcing de Nibali fait éclater le peloton : Rosa, Brambilla, Pinot, Valverde, Chaves Rubio, Moreno Fernandez, Henao
Montoya et Nieve Ituralde restent avec lui. Nibali démarre encore, Chaves Rubio et le reste du peloton réagissent tout de suite ; Henao Montoya et
Benedetti se dégagent. Au km 229, au sommet de Civiglio, Nibali démarre à nouveau, gagnant une avance de 8” sur les autres échappés.

START: 198 riders cast off from Bergamo at 10.33 am. The start was given by the mayor of the city, Giorgio Gori. Non-starters: riders no. 27 Tvetcov
(AND) and no. 174 Fedi (STH).
The pace is high since the very beginning, with many attacks and counter-attacks, but the peloton still rolls together. At km 13, Schumacher (CCC) and
Polanc (LAM) race clear of the bunch, followed by seven other riders at km 14: Barbin (BAR), Coppel (IAM), De Negri (NIP), Busato (STH), Geschke
(TGA), Van Winden (TLJ) and Canola (UHC). At km 24, the nine breakaways are 14” up the road. The pace is still very brisk: 25.250 kilometres have
been covered in as little as 30 minutes. At km 24, Gatto (AND) and Benedetti (BOA) catch up with the nine front riders. The bunch is 21” down the road
and lets them go. At km 31, the eleven front riders have built a 1’10” lead. At km 38, the gap deepens: 5’42”. Average speed after one hour of racing:
47.200 km/h.
At km 49, the break is 8’06” up the road. Benedetti (BOA) clears the Colle Gallo climb (the first ascent of the race) in first place, thus claiming the prize

Nizzolo (TFR) counter-attack out of the peloton, followed by Kwitatkowski, Trentin, Stybar, Verona and Wisniowski (EQS). With 75 km remaining to the
finish, the eleven breakaways are 2’34” ahead of the eleven counter-attackers, while the bunch is 3’12” adrift. At the foot of the Ghisallo climb,
Benedetti and Canola try to counter-attack out of the leading peloton; Gatto lags behind. Trentin and Wisniowski are dropped by the first chasing
group. At km 171, Benedetti and Canola hold a 25” lead over their former fellow-breakaways. Slagter, Kwitatkowski, Verona, Wellens, Izaguirre, Gesink
and Coppel, in difficulty, lag 2’06” behind. Stybar and Nizzolo are 2’25” down the road, while the bunch – led by Astana riders – is 3’10” adrift. Canola
clears the Madonna del Ghisallo climb ahead of Benedetti, 20” ahead of Barbin, Busato and Van Winden, 1’20” ahead of De Negri, 1’40” ahead of
Schumacher and Kwiatkowski. The bunch lags 3’06” behind. Five riders are at the front of the race at km 186: Barbin, Benedetti, Busato, Van Winden
and Canola. Slagter, Kwiatkowski, Verona, Polanc, Wellens, Izaguirre, Geschke and Gesink are 1’00” down the road; Schumacher and De Negri lag 1’30”
behind, and the bunch – still led by Astana riders – is 2’12” adrift.
At km 188, at the foot of the Colma di Sormano climb, Benedetti and Canola continue to lead. The peloton – led by Astana riders – is making a sharp
comeback. At km 194, Canola and Benedetti have a 10” lead over Slagter, Barbin, Kwiatkowski, Wellens, Busato, Gesink and Van Winden, and 35” over
the bunch. Kwiatkowski and Wellens clear the Colma di Sormano a few seconds ahead of the bunch (which is very strung out), led by Nibali. At km 200,
the two front men are 25” ahead of Slagter, Nibali, Landa Meana, Rosa, Benedetti, Pinot, Valverde, Chaves Rubio, Barguil, Moreno Fernandez, Gesink,
Nieve Ituralde and Poels. Along the descent leading to Nesso, Brambilla, Verona, Gallopin, Yates, Busato, Bennett, Henao Montoya, Canola, Bardet and
Vuillermoz manage to catch up with the chasing peloton. At km 204, Kwiatkowski and Wellens hold a 34” lead over the 23 after-followers.
At km 214, the leading duo is 37” ahead of the chasing group. At km 216, the two front riders are 20” ahead of the 22 after-followers (Canola is
dropped). With 25 km to go, the gap is 16”; at km 121: 23”. The break is caught up at km 225, along the Civiglio climb. At km 226, Nibali forces the
pace, thus splitting the peloton. Rosa, Brambilla, Pinot, Valverde, Chaves Rubio, Moreno Fernandez, Henao Montoya and Nieve Ituralde manage to
catch up with him. Nibali gives another pull, Chaves Rubio and the bunch respond straight away. Henao Montoya and Benedetti counter-attack. At km
229, on top of the Civiglio climb, Nibali gives another pull and builds an 8” lead on the other breakaways.
With 10 km remaining to the finish, Nibali has a 30” lead over his immediate after-followers. With 9 km to go, Nibali’s lead increases: 40”. With 8 km to
go, Nibali holds a 40” advantage over the chasing peloton. With 7 km remaining to the finish, Nibali is 33” up the road. With 6 km to go, Nibali holds a
14” lead over Moreno Fernandez, 23” over Pinot, 32” over Valverde, Nieve Ituralde and Rosa. With 2 km remaining to the finish, Nibali still has an 11”
advantage over Moreno Fernandez, 23” over Pinot, 34” over Valverde, Nieve Ituralde and Rosa. At the flamme rouge, Nibali is 12” ahead of Moreno
Fernandez.

Poco dopo la partenza c’è stata la caduta del n° 158 della Nippo – Vini Fantini, Genki YAMAMOTO. Dopo essere stato medicato in corsa per escoriazioni
al polso e gomito sx ha continuato la gara.
Al km 82 da segnalare la scivolata di alcuni corridori tra i quali il n° 178, Luca WACKERMANN (STH) medicato per contusione ed escoriazione al
ginocchio sx.
Al km 143 caduta di cinque corridori tra cui segnaliamo il n° 235 Fabio FELLINE (TFR) che ha riportato contusione al ginocchio dx, il n° 165 Jens
KEUKELEIRE (OGE) con contusione escoriata al ginocchio dx e il n° 164 Damien HOWSON (OGE) che è stato costretto al ritiro per una contusione
all’anca dx e al ginocchio dx.
Nella discesa di Onno sono caduti il n° 44 Luca CHIRICO (BAR) senza particolari conseguenze e il n° 153 Alessandro BISOLTI (NIP), costretto al ritiro
per una lussazione alla spalla dx ridotta in ambulanza dai medici.
Nella discesa del Ghisallo sono caduti il n° 245 Lucas EUSER (UHC) che ha riportato trauma contusivo all’anca sx ed il n° 246 Tanner PUTT (UHC) che
ha riportato escoriazioni al gomito e ginocchio sx e al terzo dito della mano dx; entrambi i corridori sono stati costretti al ritiro.
Infine al km 198, nella discesa della Colma di Sormano, è caduto il n° 178 Luca WACKERMANN (STH) riportando contusioni escoriate al gomito, braccio
e coscia dx.
Peu après le départ, chute impliquant le dossard n° 158 de la Nippo – Vini Fantini, Genki YAMAMOTO. Après avoir été soigné sur place à cause
d’écorchures au poignet et au coude gauches, il a pu reprendre la course.
Au km 82, glissade impliquant plusieurs coureurs, dont le dossard n° 178, Luca WACKERMANN (STH), qui a été soigné pour une contusion et une
écorchure au genou gauche.
Au km 143, chute impliquant 5 coureurs, dont les dossards 235 Fabio FELLINE (TFR), qui a souffert d’une contusion au genou droit, 165 Jens
KEUKELEIRE (OGE), qui a souffert d’une contusion avec écorchures au genou droit, et 164 Damien HOWSON (OGE), qui a dû abandonner la course à
cause d’une contusion à la hanche et au genou droits.
Le long de la descente d’Onno, chute impliquant le dossard 44 Luca CHIRICO (BAR), qui n’a souffert aucune conséquence, et 153 Alessandro BISOLTI
(NIP), qui a été contraint à l’abandon à cause d’une luxation de l’épaule droite, réduite par les médecins de course à bord de l’ambulance.
Le long de la descente du Ghisallo, chute impliquant les dossards 245 Lucas EUSER (UHC), qui a souffert d’un traumatisme contusif à la hanche gauche,
et 246 Tanner PUTT (UHC), qui a souffert d’écorchures au coude et au genou gauches, et au troisième doigt de la main droite. Les deux coureurs ont
été contraints à abandonner la course.
Au km 198, le long de la descente de la Colma di Sormano, chute impliquant le dossard n° 178 Luca WACKERMANN (STH), qui a souffert de contusions
avec écorchures au coude, à la cuisse et au bras droits.
Right after the start, crash involving Nippo – Vini Fantini’s no. 158, Genki YAMAMOTO, who sustained abrasions to his left wrist and elbow. After being

PREMIO SPECIALE DELLA GAZZETTA DELLO SPORT ALLA MEMORIA DEL GIORNALISTA PIER LUIGI TODISCO
Anche quest’anno, in occasione del 109° Il Lombardia, La Gazzetta dello Sport ha ricordato il collega giornalista Pier Luigi Todisco,
scomparso tragicamente il 7 ottobre 2011, mentre in bicicletta stava raggiungendo il suo posto di lavoro nella redazione di Gazzetta.it,
con un premio assegnato al corridore Marco CANOLA (UHC), transitato per primo in cima alla Madonna del Ghisallo, montagna simbolo
del Lombardia in cima al quale ci sono il Santuario della Madonna protettrice dei ciclisti e il “Museo del Ciclismo” dell’indimenticabile
Fiorenzo Magni.
Il trofeo, in passato, è stato vinto nel 2011 da NIBALI, nel 2012 da DE VEERT, nel 2013 da VOECKLER e nel 2014 da GAVAZZI.

Cette année aussi, à l’occasion du 109ème Il Lombardia, La Gazzetta dello Sport a rendu hommage au collègue journaliste Pier Luigi
Todisco, qui a trouvé tragiquement la mort le 7 octobre 2011 alors qu’il circulait en bicyclette pour rejoindre son lieu de travail à la
rédaction de Gazzetta.it, par un prix décerné au coureur Marco CANOLA (UHC), qui a franchi en premier la Madonna del Ghisallo, la
montagne-symbole du « Lombardia », au sommet de laquelle se trouvent le Sanctuaire de la Madonna protectrice des cyclistes et le «
Musée du cyclisme » de l’inoubliable Fiorenzo Magni.
Au cours des éditions passées, le trophée a été remporté par NIBALI en 2011, par DE VEERT en 2012, par VOECKLER en 2013 et par

the Indian subcontinent by Sony TV, in Thailand by TrueVisions and in Vietnam by FPT Telecom. Highlights
of the 'Race of the Falling Leaves' will also be shown in New Zealand by SKY Sport NZ.
