The Vosges Mountains separate it from the rest of France and provide an incredible array of soil types that create amazing whites from Riesling, Gewürztraminer, Pinot Gris, and Muscat. JURA 320 Domaine du Pelican, Chardonnay, Arbois 2013 $125 2012 $50 SAVO I E 321 Denis et Didier Berthollier, “Chignin Vieilles Vignes”, Jacquère, Savoie Rhône Valley Blanc Although the vast majority of Rhône Valley wine is red, the region does create a small amount of exotic whites. In the Northern Rhône, Viognier, Marsanne, and Roussanne are the primary grapes. In the southern sector, Grenache Blanc usually dominates the blends and is rounded out with Marsanne and Roussanne. Riesling is made in several different styles from bone dry to honey-like sweet, and they make excellent food companions because of Riesling’s elevated acidity.
