GUIDELINES
for the PREPARATION of
POSTERS for TERRA 2008
These guidelines are addressed to authors whose posters were accepted for presentation.
A poster is a display panel on which work is presented by combined use of images, graphics, and text.
Posters will be displayed from the beginning of the conference through Tuesday February 5, 2008. Your attendance
is requested during the poster session and reception on Saturday February 2, 2008, 18:30-20:30.
Language:
Accepted languages for posters are English and French only. If these languages are not your native language,
please have your text reviewed and edited by someone knowledgeable in that language, to ensure your poster’s
legibility.
Printing, publication & presentation of posters:
Please note that the conference organizers can NOT print, publish, or laminate posters.
Transportation:
Please roll up your poster, printed side out, in a plastic or cardboard transport/mailing tube, and bring it with
you. Write or tape the author’s name and poster title on the rolled up poster and on the tube, for easy identification.
Please do not send posters in the mail. Those participants going on the postconference tours may wish to consider a
poster and a tube that can be disposed of.
Installation & Dismantling:
Posters will be pinned onto walls and presentation panels in the designated poster session hall at the International
Conference Center of Bamako, adjacent to the conference hall. Installation of the posters is by the authors
themselves, with the assistance of Terra 2008 staff. Specific times for poster installation prior to the start of the
conference will be communicated at a later time. Posters will be taken down on Tuesday February 5, at 18:00.
Authors have the option of collecting or abandoning their poster after the conference. Posters not claimed by the
authors at the end of the conference cannot be sent back or kept.
Handouts:
Authors may provide photocopied hand-outs of their posters or other supporting documentation. This will assist
delegates who might wish to keep all the details of posters without having to copy or photograph them.
Suggestions:
Posters should strive to be attractive and well organized. The appearance, both of the poster as a whole, and of
the quality of the illustrations, is important. Posters will be on display for the duration of the conference. Thus it is
important that posters be self-explanatory. Text should be minimal. Use mainly photographs and graphic
illustrations with little text and tables. Please use the format provided which will guarantee an appropriate and
legible lettering and size of individual elements.
Publication:
Poster abstracts will be included in the bilingual abstracts publication distributed to all conference participants.

Ces directives sont adressées aux auteurs dont les communications ont été acceptées sous format de posters.
Un poster est un panneau de présentation sur lequel un travail ou un projet est présenté par usage combiné
d‘images, graphes et texte.
Les posters seront exposés dès le début de la conférence jusqu’à la fin le 5 février 2008. Votre présence est requise
lors de la session posters et réception le mardi 2 février 2008 de 18h30 à 20h30.
Langue
Le français ou l’anglais sont les langues acceptées pour les posters. Si ces langues ne sont pas vos langues
maternelles, veuillez faire revoir et éditer votre texte par quelqu’un qui a connaissance de ces langues, afin d’assurer
la bonne lecture de votre poster.
Impression, publication et présentation des posters
Veuillez noter que les organisateurs de la conférence ne pourront PAS imprimer, publier ou plastifier les posters.
Transport
Veuillez rouler votre poster, côté imprimé à l’intérieur, dans un tube en plastic ou carton, et apportez-le avec
vous. Ecrivez le nom de l’auteur et le titre du poster sur le tube et sur l’envers du poster, pour une identification
rapide. Veuillez ne pas envoyer de posters par courrier à Bamako. Les participants qui partiront sur un tour
postconférence doivent considérer un poster et tube qu’ils peuvent abandonner a Bamako.
Installation et démontage
Les posters seront accrochés sur des panneaux de présentation en bois dans l’endroit désigné pour la session des
posters au centre International de Conférences de Bamako, juste à côté de la salle de conférence. L’installation des
posters se fera par les auteurs eux-mêmes, avec l’aide de personnel Terra 2008. Les heures d’installation des posters
seront communiquées ultérieurement. Les posters seront démontés des panneaux le 5 février 2008 à 18h00. Les
auteurs auront le choix de récupérer leur poster après la conférence ou l’abandonner. Les posters non réclamés ne
seront pas conservés ni renvoyés par courrier.
Brochures
Les auteurs ont le droit de distribuer des brochures de leurs posters ou de la documentation complémentaire. Ceci
peut être bénéfique pour les participants qui souhaitent retenir les détails de votre présentation sans devoir prendre
note ou photographier votre poster.
Suggestions
Les posters devraient être bien organisés et attirer l’attention. L’apparence du poster en général et des
illustrations inclues est très importante. Les posters seront exposés pendant toute la durée de la conférence, donc il
est souhaitable qu’ils soient compréhensibles sans assistance. La quantité de texte devrait rester à un minimum.
Comptez surtout sur des images et illustrations graphiques, et peu de texte ou tableaux. Veuillez utiliser le modèle
ci dessus, qui garantira que les divers éléments du poster seront lisibles.
Publication
Les résumés des posters seront inclus dans la publication bilingue des résumés, distribuée à chaque participant.
