MANIFESTE OLÉODUC BITUMEN
CONSIDÉRANT QUE: un vieux gazoduc de gaz naturel sera
converti pour transporter du bitume des sables bitumineux, et qu’il
doit traverser et parfois suivre près de 1000 cours d’eau canadiens et
donc les mettre tous en danger, et
CONSIDÉRANT QUE: les oléoducs développent souvent des
fissures, et les déversements récents en Alberta (juillet 2015, juin
2012) ont pollué leurs voisinages avec jusqu’à 5 miliards de bitumen
chacun, comme résultat la dévastation des terres et de la faune; et
qu’un autre grand déversement (Kalamazoo, Michigan, USA juillet
2010) a montré que le bitume dilué coule vers le bas lorqu’il est
déversé dans l’eau; ainsi l’impact sur l’environnement est presque
impossible à effacer, et
CONSIDÉRANT QUE: le but total de l’oléoduc est d’augmenter le
développement des sables bitumineux tandis que, selon l’Agence de
l’energie international, les compagnies petrolières ont deja découvert
3 fois la quantité de combustibles fossiles que nous pouvons brûler et
continuer à avoir une chance raisonnable de maintenir que le
réchauffement climatique ne dépasse pas 2◦C, et
CONSIDÉRANT QUE: pour les générations à venir, nous voulons
que les dollars d’investissement soient consacrés aux sources
d’énergie durables, non pas aux sables bitumineux ni à l’oléoduc
Energy East,

WHEREAS: The pipeline proposed by Energy East is in fact an
OLD natural gas pipeline, now expected to carry much-heavier
bitumen, which will be crossing and bordering and thus endangering
almost 1000 Canadian waterways, and
WHEREAS: pipeline spills occur frequently; some, such as those in
Peace River Alberta (July 2015) and Little Buffalo First Nations
(April, 2011) unleashing up to 5 million litres of oil each, causing
extensive damage to soil and wildlife. The spill in the river at
Kalamazoo, Michigan (July 2010) showed that diluted bitumen
SINKS when spilled in water, thus the environmental impact of such
spills or leaks is nearly impossible to clean up, and
WHEREAS: the whole purpose of the pipeline is to increase tar
sands production when, according to the International Energy
Agency, oil companies have already discovered THREE times the
amount of fossil fuels we can burn and still have a reasonable chance
of keeping global warming from exceeding the GLOBALLY
RECOGNIZED safe limit of an increased 2◦C, and
WHEREAS: for future generations, we wish investment dollars to
go to sustainable energy sources, not to tar sands and not to Energy
East pipelines,

QUEBECERS TO BLOCK THE ENERGY EAST PIPELINE
IMMEDIATELY AND PERMANENTLY.
