L’Ecole d’été internationale en Limnologie

A l’initiative conjointe de l’UMR Carrtel et de l’Université de Savoie, une Ecole internationale
d’été de Limnologie s’est tenue à Evian, durant 9 jours. Elle s’inscrivait dans le cadre d’un partenariat
avec l’Université d’Irkoutsk, l’Université de Genève (Institut Forel), et d’une Chaire de l’Eau UNESCO
(Irkoutsk-Chambéry).
Lancée en 2011, lors d’une réunion de partenariat à Irkoutsk, la proposition d’organiser l’Ecole d’été
sur les bords du Léman (alors qu’elle se tient habituellement sur les bords du Baikal) a été acceptée
et s’est mise en place dès fin 2013. Elle a prolongé les premiers accueils de scientifiques russes au
sein de l’UMR (chercheur, doctorants en 2013).
La thématique générale de l’Ecole était « « écologie lacustre et temporalité ». Ce thème a
permis d’aborder l’évolution lacustre et les processus biologiques à différentes échelles temporelles :
paléolimnologie (archives sédimentaires,..), époque actuelle (échelle décennale ou pluri décennal,
observation et monitoring), très court temps (capteurs automatiques, mesures haut débit,..), via
différents indicateurs et les différents forçages (global, local, toxique, nutriments). Cet thématique
était organisé en 3 chapitres : « Ecological trajectories of lakes » (7 conférences) / « Lake biodiversity
and functions (13 conférences)/ Man- Lake interaction (7 conférences) (cf planning et titres en
annexe 1)1.
En complément, les étudiants ont eu à réaliser un travail semi personnel (groupe de 3) sur un sujet
bibliographique, et à présenter leurs travaux devant un jury.
En tout 27 stagiaires ont été présents, du niveau Master 2 à post doc, représentant 14
nationalités (France, Russie, Suisse, Belgique, Allemagne, Suède, Chine, Hongrie, Bolivie, Chili,
Rwanda, Estonie, Espagne, Royaume Uni).
Les conférenciers étaient 282, représentant 6 nationalités (France, Russie, Allemagne, Suisse, Italie,
Suisse).

Sur un plan matériel et financier :
Au global et sous réserve d’un bilan précis à faire, le coût global d’une telle Ecole s’est élevé à
environ 50k€. Les sources de financements ont été très diverses, que ce soit par un apport financier
soit par la prise en charge directe de services indispensables (billets d’avion, salles, restaurant,..) :
INRA/EFPA, UMR Carrtel, SOERE Lacs Alpins, Université de Savoie, Université de Genève, Université
d’Irkoutsk, Ville d’Evian, Région Rhône Alpes.
Retour d’évaluation par les stagiaires :
Les participants ont rempli un questionnaire de satisfaction (Cocorico : ≥90% satisfaction sur le
contenu scientifique et l’adéquation aux attentes et 95% sur l’organisation)
Bénéfices de cette Ecole d’été pour l’Unité:
- Identification de l’UMR (et de certains de ses chercheurs) par de nombreux participants
(jeunes chercheurs ou conférenciers) qui ne connaissaient pas l’Unité,
- Renforcement des partenariats avec les labos suisses (en particulier l’Institut Forel,
coorganisateur)
- Sur un plan scientifique et partenarial, il est encore trop tôt de tirer les leçons de cette Ecole
d’été, mais à minima notre image sort renforcée auprès d’instituts au d’Universités
étrangères (Allemagne, Université de Kiel ; IGB / Russie : Institut de Limnologie d’Irkoutsk –
Académie des Sciences Russe / EAWAG, Suisse)… Reste à aller au-delà ….
