"On n'oubliera pas de sitôt ces belles histoires de Doudou Gouirand, l'un des jazzman les plus excitants de
l'hexagone" (J.M Tronchon). Dans ces "contes oublies", Doudou mêle non seulement la tradition avec la "world
music" mais renoue aussi avec le grand trompettiste et compositeur Don Cherry. Le morceau intitulé "World
music suite" rappelle à la fois le gospel avec l'introduction inspirée du "Welcome" de Coltrane, l'orient avec
l'accordéon de Salis, l'Amérique du Sud avec la voie de Gouirand, le Moyen Orient avec la trompette de Cherry,
tout en étant ponctué par la sensibilité de Doudou au soprano et les merveilleux soli des guitares de Pansanel et
Dorge. Le reste de l'album est exceptionnel : fragiles mélodies sur "Saga", romance sur "Shade of blue" sans
oublier l'atmosphère intensive et mystérieuse de la majestueuse "Forgotten tales suite".
Doudou Gouirand started seriously in jazz music when Don Cherry (the great trumpet player and composer)
gave him the opportunity to study and work with him. At his contact, he is going to develop his interest for
Indian and African music and world music in general and go further in the universe of improvised music. In
1986 he recorded this "Forgotten Tales" featuring again Don Cherry. The "World music suite" suggest gospel on
the Coltrane's "Welcome" inspired introduction, orient with the accordeon of Salis, South America with the
voice of Gouirand, Middle East with the trumpet of Cherry, all of this punctuated with the sensibility and lyrics
of Gouirand on soprano and the magnificent guitars of Pansanel and Dorge. The rest of the album, is exceptional
: fragile melodies on "Saga", romance on "Shade of blue", Latin feelings on "El Golea" without forgetting the
intensity and mystery on "Forgotten tales suite".
