The best and easiest way to get engaged! SSMU’s over 200 clubs, service, and independent groups will
set up booths in the University Centre for students to come learn about the opportunities to get involved.
It is the biggest night for clubs and services all year! This year, it is spread out over two nights to allow
students and groups more time to promote and join clubs around hectic student schedules.
Activities Nights provides an easy way to talk to club members, find out about their events, and sign up
for their listservs. We encourage everyone to come by and see what opportunities to get involved SSMU
has to offer.

Clubs and Services
CULTURE SHOCK COORDINATOR
Job Description
The Culture Shock Coordinator shall be responsible for networking with clubs, services, and independent
student groups to organize relevant events for the duration of Culture Shock, organize the Food Fair and
encourage attendance, advertise the events, attend ALL events (required) and organize the room
bookings.

Work with the Vice President (Clubs and Services) and QPIRG to plan a precise budget;
Plan the structure of Culture Shock and arrange for all necessary media, rent or purchase the
necessary media and/or equipment, organize the necessary space and present the plan to the
Vice-President (Clubs and Services) and the QPIRG External Coordinator;
Assist with setup and on-site organization of the events of Culture Shock;
Coordinate the Food Fair;
Contact and organize all necessary student groups for the Culture Shock Food Fair and
workshop series;
Be the main contact person for all Culture Shock event participants;
Coordinate the advertising of Culture Shock through all necessary media, including but not limited
to postering;
Recruit and coordinate volunteers to ensure the seamless operation of all Culture Shock events;
Adhere to all standard accounting procedures of the SSMU;
Ensure that Culture Shock as a whole is as inclusive of minority groups as possible and is
congruent with the values stated in the preamble of the SSMU Constitution;
Write an exit report, to be delivered to the SSMU Vice-President Clubs & Services and the

External Coordinator of QPIRG in both digital and hard copies by no later than December 1 ,
2009;

OLD MCGILL YEARBOOK EDITOR

and delivery by Convocation in May.

Green Building Coordinator
I. Student Union Building Operations
a) The Green Building Coordinator shall work with SSMU Executives, SSMU staff (General Manager,
Environment Commissioners, porters, etc.), and McGill to minimize the environmental impact of the
operations of the Student Union Building. This includes identifying opportunities for energy efficiency
and retrofitting, ensuring that any renovations completed meet appropriate environmental standards,
and assisting student groups and vendors in making their use of the building more environmentally
friendly.
b) The GBC shall complete research regarding the operations of the Student Union Building, as
requested by the Executive, Council, or Environment Commissioners.
c) The GBC shall contribute to the implementation of the Five Year Plan forSustainability (2009-2014)
and to the re-assessment of SSMU according to the Sustainability Assessment 2008.
d) The GBC shall assess the environmental practices (and whether these meet SSMU standards, bylaws, etc.) of Student Union Building space (clubs’ and services’ offices, vendors, etc.).
II. Reporting
a) The GBC shall sit on Environment Committee and report on his/her work to that body.
b) The GBC shall report at least monthly to the VP Clubs & Services and, via the Environment
Commissioners, to the President.
c) The GBC shall report to Council once a semester, via the Environment Commissioners.
III. Hiring
a) Hiring shall be conducted according to the selection process outlined in By-Law I-12, Part V, Article 3;
the outgoing Green Building Coordinator shall be invited to give input on the most important hiring
criteria.

SSMU Legislative Council

Council is an elected body of representatives that sets SSMU's policies and enacts change on behalf of
the entire undergraduate student population. Council (also known as "Students' Council" or "Legislative
Council") constitutes the highest decision-making body and the legislative arm of the Students' Society of
McGill University governance structure - the board of directors. According to Article 3 of the SSMU
Constitution, Council is the governing body of the Society and "shall be empowered to make all decisions
and take all actions on behalf of the Society...". Council is where you can ask what your executives have
been working on, hear reports on what clubs are getting funding and which new clubs are being
approved, and see debate on motions that set SSMU policy. Visitors can also speak and give their
opinion on what SSMU should do. It is a great way to get involved with SSMU politics and understand
your student society better.

committees, and represent the student voice on these issues. Anyone can work with SSMU's student

Political Issues Club Movie Screening!
The Political Issues Club will be screening 'Lost Boys of Sudan' on Tuesday, September 22 in the Lev
Bukhman room of the Shatner building.
The documentary follows two Sudanese refugees struggling to adapt to life in suburban America. We will

candidat coordonnera les efforts des photographes, éditeurs et gestionnaires de contenu afin de
constituer le livre de fin d’année à temps pour l’impression en mars et la livraison pour la Convocation en
mai.

Coordinateur(trice de Green Building
I. Opérations du Bâtiment de l’Union des étudiants
a) Le Coordinateur(trice de Green Building travaillera avec les cadres de l’AEUM, le personnel de l’AEUM
(Directeur général, Commissaires environnementaux, portiers, etc.), et McGill pour minimiser l’impact
environnemental des opérations du Bâtiment de l’Union des étudiants. Ceci inclut l’identification
d’opportunités d’utiliser l’énergie efficacement et d’y intégrer de nouvelles méthodes d’économie,
l’assurance que quelconques rénovations effectuées répondent aux critères environnementaux
appropriés, et l’assistance aux groupes étudiants et marchands pour rendre leur usage du bâtiment plus
écologiquement sain.
b) Le CGB effectuera de la recherche par rapport aux opérations du Bâtiment de l’Union des étudiants,
telle qu’exigée par le corps exécutif, le Conseil, ou les Commissaires environnementaux.
c) Le CGB contribuera à l’implémentation du Plan de cinq ans pour la durabilité (2009-2014) et à la
réévaluation de l’AEUM en accordance avec l’Évaluation de durabilité 2008 (Sustainability Assessment
2008).
d) Le CGB évaluera les pratiques environnementales (et si celles-ci répondent aux critères et
règlementations de l’AEUM) des espaces (clubs et services, bureaux, marchands) du Bâtiment de l’Union
des étudiants.
II. Hiérarchie
a) Le CGB siègera sur le Comité de l’environnement et rendra des comptes à ce corps.
b) Le CGB rendra également des comptes, au moins une fois par mois, au VP des Clubs et services et,
par l’entremise des Commissaires environnementaux, au président.
c) Le CGB rendra des comptes au Conseil une fois par session, par l’entremise des Commissaires
environnementaux.
III. Embauche
a) L’embauche se déroulera selon le processus de sélection décrit dans le règlement (By-Law) I-12,
Section V, Article 3; le Coordinateur(trice) de Green Building sortant sera invité à donner son point de vue
sur les critères d’embauche les plus importants.

Le premier show de l’Union de débat de McGill (McGill Debating Union)

Le Conseil est un corps représentatif élu qui établit les politiques de l’AEUM et initie le changement de la
part de toute la population d’étudiants de premier cycle. Le Conseil (aussi connu sous le nom de «Conseil
Étudiant» ou «Conseil Législatif») constitue la plus haute autorité décisive et le bras législatif de la
structure de gouvernance de l’Association Étudiante de l’Université McGill – le comité de directeurs et
directrices.
En accord avec l’Article 3 de la Constitution de l’AEUM, le Conseil et le corps gouvernant de l’Association
et « sera investi du pouvoir de prendre toutes les décisions et entreprendre toutes les actions au nom de
l’Association… ».
Le Conseil c’est là où vous pouvez demander sur quoi vos exécutifs ont travaillé, écouter des rapports
sur quels clubs sont financés et quels nouveaux clubs ont été approuvés, et voir le débat sur les motions
qui régissent la politique de l’AEUM. Les visiteurs pourront aussi parler et donner leur opinion sur ce que
l’AEUM devrait faire. C’est une très bonne façon de s’impliquer avec les politiques de l’AEUM et un
moyen de mieux comprendre votre association étudiante.

est à la tête du Sénat. Le Sénat fonctionne par l’entremise de comités, incluant : - le Comité de politique

Le Magazine littéraire Veg fait appel aux soumissions (nouvelle date limite)
Le Veg aimerait lancer un appel aux soumissions pour la publication d’HIVER. Les textes de POÉSIE
(max 4 pages) et PROSE (1500 mots), en anglais ou français, reçus au plus tard le 18 octobre seront
considérés. Aussi, nous considérerons certains morceaux de non-fiction pour notre section Rant and
Rave (MAX 1500 mots).
