FIRST EUROPEAN TITLES FOR CAMPONESCHI AND JOHANSSON AT GENK
Although the consecration of Flavio Camponeschi as the CIK-FIA European KZ Championship was
no longer in doubt after Zuera, the European KZ2 Champion was decided during the Final at Genk
after a lot of suspense: Joel Johansson was eventually crowned after a duel at a distance with Pedro
Hiltbrand. Again victorious in the Final of the CIK-FIA Karting Academy Trophy, Marta Garcia Lopez
increased her lead in the provisional standings.
The perfect organisation and the remarkable venue of Genk resulted in a very successful Competition this weekend in Belgium.
Paul Lemmens’s professional team as always had the expertise at their fingertips, while the track at Genk demanded a lot from
drivers and machines. The public flocked to the track for the Finals, and the presence of Max Verstappen to award the cups on
the podium was highly appreciated. Many penalties sanctioned ill-judged manoeuvres thanks to the detachable front fairings,
avoiding incidents that had previously been very common on the first lap. Competition was extremely tight in KZ and KZ2, while
many battles enlivened the racing in the CIK-FIA Karting Academy Trophy. Apart from a little rain during the Prefinals, the weather
did not disrupt the Races.
Iglesias winner, Camponeschi Champion
Despite an unfortunately limited entry, the fight for victory in KZ did not drop in intensity. Flavio Camponeschi (Tony Kart-VortexB’stone) began with the fastest time in Qualifying Practice, Simo Puhakka (CRG-Maxter-B’stone) went ahead in the Qualifying
Heats and Jorrit Pex (Intrepid-TM Racing- B’stone) won the Prefinal ahead of Marco Ardigo (Tony Kart-Vortex-B’stone). Increasingly
effective, Jérémy Iglesias (Sodi-TM Racing B’stone) seized the lead from the second lap of the Final and then defended from
the return of Rick Dreezen (Ricciardo-Parilla-B’stone) to clinch a superb victory. Camponeschi again faced his teammate Ardigo
to take 3rd place. After the finish, the result changed because of penalties for Dreezen and Camponeschi for detached front
fairings. Ardigo took 2nd position ahead of Ben Hanley (Croc Racing Promotions-TM-B’stone).
Already the World Champion in the KF1 category in 2012, the Italian Flavio Camponeschi won the CIK-FIA European KZ
Championship this time. «It is a great satisfaction to win this prestigious title,” said Flavio Camponeschi. «The KZ category
gathers the best drivers in the world, one cannot help dreaming of the highest level in Karting. My main opponent was my
team-mate Marco Ardigo, an indisputable benchmark. We were able to fight on an equal footing without restrictions and that’s
what gave full value to the Championship. Our team has done an outstanding job for us, slightly ahead of the others while
the Competition was very tight from start to finish.» The Tony Kart Racing Team had doubled in the Championship with Marco
Ardigo in 2nd position, with Ben Hanley finishing 3rd after some hazards in Belgium. Iglesias took 4th place ahead of Patrik
Hajek (Formula K-Parilla-B’stone).
Suspense until the end for Johansson in KZ2
Arriving at Genk as leader of the CIK-FIA European KZ2 Championship, Pedro Hiltbrand (CRGSPA-Maxter-LeCont) found several obstacles in way in Belgium. Stan Pex (Intrepid-TM Racing-LeCont) was the fastest in Qualifying Practice ahead of Lorenzo

Camplese (Parolin-TM Racing-LeCont) and Alexander Schmitz (Tony Kart-Vortex-LeCont) with Hiltbrand only 28th. Joel Johansson
(Energy-TM Racing-LeCont) went ahead at the end of the Qualifying Heats against Felice Tiene (CRGSPA-Maxter-LeCont). Further
delayed by an incident and a penalty, Hiltbrand was 23rd. In a slippery and tricky Prefinal after a little rain, Pex controlled
Schmitz’s recovery, Johansson ensured 3rd place. Pex and Schmitz battled again in Final, this time in the dry, far ahead of their
opponents. Schmitz got the better of Pex. Starting cautiously Johansson rose to 3rd place with great composure and closed on
the two leaders late in the race, aware that he had fulfilled his mission for the Championship. Hiltbrand had the ability to creep
up to 9th position but was powerless to stop the coronation of Johansson.
“Finally!» exclaimed Joel Johansson at the finish. «I have twice finished 2nd in the European Championship in 2011 and 2013
at Wackersdorf and here at Genk. This time it was my turn to win! It was not easy to handle the Finals because I had to push
hard avoiding any incident. I knew my equipment would be increasingly fast in the Final, but I did not take any risks in the early
laps and then I was able to free myself from a lively group to reach the 3rd place that allowed me to be Champion.» In the final
standings of the Championship, Hiltbrand had to settle for 2nd place, Andreas Fasberg (Tony Kart-Vortex-LeCont) rose to 3rd
position ahead of Luca Corberi (Tony Kart-Vortex-LeCont) and Paolo Besancenez (Tony Kart-Vortex-LeCont).
Marta Garcia Lopez ready to win the Academy Trophy
By taking a second victory in the CIK-FIA Karting Academy Trophy in Genk, Spain’s Marta Garcia Lopez is now assured of the
title at the last Competition at Le Mans in September. The driver of the FIA «Women in Motorsport» Commission has mastered her
subject to perfection in the top three. Before her win in the Final, she faced two compatriots, Xavier Lloveras Brunet and Alejandro
Lahoz Lopez. The Dutchman Dylan Buys took control by winning the Prefinal, but Spanish supremacy was restored in the Final
with the unquestionable victory of Garcia Lopez ahead of Lloveras Brunet and Lahoz Lopez. The Brazilian Murilo Della Coletta
and French Theo Nouet completed the top five. These three Spaniards are in the same order in the provisional standings of the
Trophy, with Briton Alfie Brown and Della Coletta 4th and 5th.

Si la consécration de Flavio Camponeschi en Championnat d’Europe CIK-FIA de KZ ne faisait plus de
doute depuis Zuera, le Champion d’Europe KZ2 n’était révélé que lors de la Finale de Genk au terme
d’un long suspense : Joel Johansson a été finalement couronné après un duel à distance avec Pedro
Hiltbrand. Une nouvelle fois victorieuse en Finale du Trophée Académie de Karting de la CIK-FIA,
Marta Garcia Lopez accentue son avance au classement provisoire.
L’organisation parfaite et le site remarquable de Genk ont donné lieu à une Compétition très réussie ce week-end en Belgique.
L’équipe très professionnelle de Paul Lemmens maîtrisait comme toujours son sujet sur le bout des doigts, tandis que le tracé de
Genk exigeait de grandes capacités de la part des Pilotes et des machines. Le public était nombreux à se presser autour du
circuit pour les phases finales, et la présence de Max Verstappen, venu remettre les coupes sur le podium, a été très appréciée.
De nombreuses pénalités ont sanctionné les manœuvres indélicates grâce au carénages avant détachables, évitant ainsi les
incidents, très fréquents auparavant lors du premier tour. La Compétition était extrêmement serrée en KZ et KZ2, tandis que de
nombreuses batailles ont animé les Courses du Trophée Académie de Karting de la CIK-FIA. Hormis une petite pluie lors des
Préfinales, la météo n’a pas perturbé le déroulement des Courses.
Iglesias vainqueur, Camponeschi Champion
Malgré un plateau malheureusement restreint, la lutte pour la victoire en KZ n’a pas manqué d’intensité. Flavio Camponeschi
(Tony Kart-Vortex-B’stone) commençait par réaliser le meilleur temps des Essais Qualificatifs, Simo Puhakka (CRG-Maxter-B’stone)
repassait en tête dans les Manches Qualificatives, puis Jorrit Pex (Intrepid-TM Racing-B’stone) remportait la Préfinale devant
Marco Ardigo (Tony Kart-Vortex-B’stone). De plus en plus efficace, Jérémy Iglesias (Sodi-TM Racing-B’stone) s’emparait de la
1ère position dès le 2e tour de la Finale et résistait ensuite au retour de Rick Dreezen (Ricciardo-Parilla-B’stone) pour décrocher
une superbe victoire. Camponeschi affrontait une nouvelle fois son équipier Ardigo pour atteindre la 3e place. Après l’arrivée,
le résultat évoluait à cause des pénalités de Dreezen et Camponeschi, pour carénage avant détaché. Ardigo retrouvait la 2e
position devant Ben Hanley (Croc Promotions-TM Racing-B’stone).
Déjà titré au niveau mondial, dans la catégorie KF1 en 2012, l’Italien Flavio Camponeschi a remporté cette fois le Championnat d’Europe CIK-FIA de KZ. « C’est une grande satisfaction de gagner ce titre prestigieux. » déclarait Flavio Camponeschi. «
La catégorie KZ rassemble les meilleurs Pilotes du monde, on ne peut pas rêver de plus haut niveau en Karting. Mon principal
adversaire a été mon équipier Marco Ardigo, une référence incontestable. Nous avons pu nous battre sans restriction à armes
égales et c’est ce qui a donné toute sa valeur à ce Championnat. Notre équipe a fait un travail exceptionnel pour nous permettre
de devancer légèrement les autres alors que la Compétition était très serrée du début à la fin. » Le Tony Kart Racing Team réussit
le doublé au Championnat avec Marco Ardigo en 2e position, Ben Hanley terminant 3e après quelques aléas en Belgique.
Iglesias prend la 4e place devant Patrik Hajek (Formula K-Parilla-B’stone).

Johansson jusqu’au bout du suspense en KZ2
Arrivé à Genk en leader du Championnat d’Europe CIK-FIA de KZ2, Pedro Hiltbrand (CRGSPA-Maxter-LeCont) a rencontré
plusieurs obstacles sur son chemin en Belgique. Stan Pex (Intrepid-TM Racing-LeCont) était le plus rapide des Essais Qualificatifs devant Lorenzo Camplese (Parolin-TM Racing-LeCont) et Alexander Schmitz (Tony Kart-Vortex-LeCont), Hiltbrand ne pointait
que 28e. Joel Johansson (Energy-TM Racing-LeCont) passait en tête au terme des Manches Qualificatives face à Felice Tiene
(CRGSPA-Maxter-LeCont). Encore retardé par un incident et une pénalité, Hiltbrand n’était alors que 23e. Lors d’une Préfinale
rendue glissante et piégeuse par une petite pluie, Pex contrôlait le retour de Schmitz, Johansson assurant la 3e place. Pex et
Schmitz s’affrontaient de nouveau en Finale, cette fois sur le sec, loin devant leurs adversaires. Schmitz s’imposait face à Pex.
Parti prudemment, Johansson se hissait avec beaucoup de sang-froid à la 3e place et se rapprochait des deux leaders en fin
de Course, conscient qu’il avait rempli sa mission au Championnat. Hiltbrand parvenait à remonter jusqu’en 9e position, mais
assistait impuissant au sacre de Johansson.
« Enfin ! » s’exclamait Joel Johansson à l’arrivée. « J’ai terminé deux fois second du Championnat d’Europe, en 2011 à Wackersdorf et en 2013 ici même à Genk. Cette fois c’était mon tour de gagner ! Ce n’était pas simple de gérer les dernières
Courses, car je devai attaquer et éviter tout incident. Je savais que mon matériel serait de plus en plus rapide en Finale, je n’ai
pas pris de risques dans les premiers tours et j’ai pu me dégager ensuite d’un groupe agité pour atteindre la 3e place qui me
permettait d’être Champion. » Au classement final du Championnat, Hiltbrand doit se contenter de la 2e place, Andreas Fasberg (Tony Kart-Vortex-LeCont) se hisse en 3e position devant Luca Corberi (Tony Kart-Vortex-LeCont) et Paolo Besancenez (Tony
Kart-Vortex-LeCont).
Marta Garcia Lopez prête à remporter le Trophée Académie
En obtenant une deuxième victoire dans le Trophée Académie de Karting de la CIK-FIA à Genk, l’Espagnole Marta Garcia
Lopez est désormais assurée d’être couronnée lors de la dernière Compétition au Mans en septembre. La Pilote de la Commission FIA des “Femmes dans le Sport Automobile“ a maîtrisé à la perfection son sujet en se maintenant dans le top 3. Avant de
s’imposer en Finale, elle a dû affronter deux compatriotes, Xavier Lloveras Brunet et Alejandro Lahoz Lopez. Le Hollandais Dylan
Buys a repris les commandes en remportant la Préfinale, mais la suprématie espagnole s’est rétablie en Finale avec la victoire
incontestable de Garcia Lopez devant Lloveras Brunet et Lahoz Lopez. Le Brésilien Murilo Della Coletta et le Français Théo
Nouet complétaient le top 5. On retrouve les trois Espagnols dans le même ordre au classement provisoire du Trophée, avec le
Britannique Alfie Brown 4e et Della Coletta 5e.
