The full range of personal survival beacons, known as S A R B E (Search and Rescue Beacon Equipment), which are claimed to have saved at least seven lives in the past 12 months, is the main feature o n the Burndept stand. The types shown, complete with test equipment, demonstrate the recent advances in beaconry made by Burndept. The largest, with two-way radio telephone, weighs less than 61b and takes up barely m o r e t h a n 250 cu in of space. Using transistorized circuits and powered by kalium or sea water batteries (also on display), the SARBE beacons, sending out continuous signals on the international distress frequencies, have a range well in excess of 60 n.m. to rescue aircraft flying at 10,000ft. Also on display are representative ranges of both Burndept and P.E.T. plugs and sockets, several with specialized and co-axial terminations. Canadair Ltd, P . O . Box 6087, Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Stand C. 12116. Two "firsts" for Paris are '.he Canadair CL-41R advanced systems trainer (fitted with F-104G N A S A R R electronics) which has not been out of Canada before, and the CL-44 swing-tail freighter, which is giving the first public demonstrations in Europe of its fully mechanized cargo-handling system. Both aircraft are displayed in the aircraft park and the CL-41 is also giving flight demonstrations. In addition, models of the CL-84 V/STOL aircraft, the CL-41G counter-insurgency aircraft, the CL-41 A Tutor R C A F pilot trainer, the CF-104 supersonic tactical aircraft and the Black Brant 2 research rocket are displayed on the Canadair section of the Canadian Department of Trade and Commerce exhibit stand. As shown at Paris, the CL-41 R is equipped with the full N A S A R R (North American Search and Ranging Radar) system as fitted to the Lockheed F-104G, used by many European N A T O countries. Alternatively, the new trainer can carry other electronics equipment including the Cyrano or Taran systems used in the Dassault Mirage IIL The CL-41 R is a derivative of the CL-41 Tutor now in quantity production for the Royal Canadian Air Force. Like the Tutor, it is powered by a single General Electric J85 turbojet engine, built under licence in Canada by Orenda Engines Ltd. The CL-44 has made big profits for its present operators—the Flying Tiger Line, Seaboard World Airlines and Slick Airways. Three products are on display: (1) a "Plastics Flogun," a portable (3Jib) plastics injection moulding machine with wide applications in the aircraft industry; (2) a wiring analyser which tells an operator immediately whether a circuit has been correctly wired; (3) a n automatic permanent magnetic compensator—a device which nullifies or cancels out the per- Canadair CL-41 G
