FIVE WINES NOT TO MISS
NoMI’s wine program is built upon the concept of 5 pillars: five places that are the
paradigms of the world’s greatest wine styles. Instead of having a little bit from everywhere, the intent is to showcase the amazing wines being produced in these countries.
I hope you will find something to spark your interest and imagination. As food for
thought, so to speak, below are five stellar examples that have captured mine.
THE
CELLAR DOOR
2041
Domaine de Louvetrie, Atmospheres, Loire Valley NV
44
Jo Landron is one of the leading producers of Muscadet in the Loire Valley. He also
happens to have the greatest Mustache in all of Wine-dom. In addition to his still
wines, he makes one of the most delightful sparklers at this price point. Bright, fresh,
and toasty, it’s a great way to start your day!
2349 Riesling Spätlese, Diel, Dorsheimer Pittermännchen, Nahe
2002100
With age, they say, comes wisdom. Here is a wine wise in its years which shows an
eloquence and richness of years developing. And yet, it is still spry, with brightness of
acid and freshness of fruit which caress the palate.
215 Vineyard 29, Napa Valley
2002
395
California is a place rich with a history of drawing people ripe for discovery in the
pursuit of blending their history with the future the land offers them, from the gold
rush to silicon valley. The wines of Vineyard 29 share in that same push towards
advancement. Beautifully structured by utilizing both Old-World techniques and the
most advanced methods available, offering the drinker to share in the riches.
1418 THE
CELLAR DOOR
Sforzato di Valtellina, Corte di Cama, Mamette Prevostini
2009 140
A rarely imported treasure, from the tiny wine region of Valtlellina Superiore on the
Swiss border in northern Itlay. The locals refer to the grape as Chiavennasca, which
is a synonym for the noble Nebbiolo grape of Barolo and Barbaresco. In the Sforzato
style the grapes are picked and dried on straw mats prior to fermentation. Offering a
hauntingly deep dried berry and herb flavor.
1720 Bodegas El Nido, El Nido, Jumilla
2006 275
El Nido is the face of the new styles of Spanish wine coming from the Murcia reigion
on the Mediterranean coast. In contrast to the restrained elegance of the old school,
this wine exemplifies the new school: bold and powerful, full-bodied, dark and smoky.
This is a mouth-filling bottle of wine, massively intense and lush.
