Le cinéma marocain est certainement l’un des mieux structuré de la région. La
production est dynamique avec une vague montante symbolisée par Nabil Ayouch dont le
nouveau film Whatever Lola Wants affiche un budget record de 12 millions de dollars. Le
cinéma marocain est ainsi en passe d’acquérir une renommée internationale due à la
qualité de son cinéma national et non plus seulement aux facilités de tournage accordées
aux productions étrangères.
Le marché local est assez dynamique et diversifié (un des plus ouverts de la région) mais
il subit de plein fouet la piraterie qui explique en grande partie l’évolution paradoxale de
l’exploitation.
D’un côté des multiplexes à l’occidentale se construisent, fait très rare dans la région ;
d’un autre côté le nombre d’écrans diminuent dramatiquement, et la fréquentation
marocaine se rapproche des inquiétants niveaux algériens et tunisiens. Le Box Office s’en
ressent fortement, même si le prix des billets augmente, avec des recettes divisées par 3
en 5 ans.
Moroccan cinema is certainly one of the most structured in the region. The production is
dynamic with a new wave symbolised by Nabil Ayouch whose next film, Whatever Lola
Wants, has a record budget of $12 million. Moroccan cinema is on the way to get an
international recognition due to the quality of its film and not only to the facilities given
to foreign shootings.
The local market is quite dynamic and diversified (one of the most open in the region)
but is strongly struck by piracy which explains the paradoxical evolution of the exhibition
sector.
On the one hand occidental kind of multiplexes are being built, which is quite rare in the
region; on the other hand the number of screens is dramatically decreasing, and the
admission number is getting closer to the worrying results of Algeria and Tunisia. The
Box Office strongly suffers from this, even though ticket prices are increasing, with
incomes divided by 3 in the last 5 years.
