La pianiste japonaise Akiko Ebi a commencé sa carrière internationale en 1975 après avoir remporté le prestigieux Concours
International Marguerite Long à Paris, où elle reçut également quatre Prix spéciaux par Arthur Rubinstein. En 1980, Akiko

Ebi remporte le 5 prix du Concours Chopin de Varsovie ; dans le jury, Martha Argerich la remarque et devient alors son
mentor. Après avoir remporté le Premier prix du Concours national de musique du Japon, Akiko Ebi poursuit sa formation
au Conservatoire de Paris avec Aldo Ciccolini et bénéficie par ailleurs des conseils de Vlado Perlemuter et Louis Kentner.
Akiko Ebi mène une carrière internationale impressionnante: c’est ainsi qu’elle a déjà joué en soliste ou avec orchestre dans
les principaux pays européens, en Amérique du nord et en Amérique du sud, en Chine et au Moyen-Orient. Par ailleurs,
Akiko Ebi donne de multiples concerts au Japon, son pays natal.
Récemment, Akiko Ebi a joué avec l'Ensemble Orchestral de Paris, l'Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, l’Orchestre
philharmonique de Monte-Carlo, le NHK Symphony, le Metropolitan Orchestra de Tokyo, et avec de nombreux orchestres
en Russie, Pologne, Slovaquie et Argentine sous la direction de chefs tels M. Skrowaczewski, Janowski, Guschelbauer, Foster
et Sado.
Akiko Ebi affectionne tout particulièrement la musique de chambre ; elle joue régulièrement à 2 pianos avec Martha
Argerich et a comme partenaires réguliers Ivry Gitlis, Augustin Dumay, Régis Pasquier, Angela Hewitt, Michel Dalberto,
Gautier Capuçon, le Quintette Moraguès, et les quatuors Parisii et Manfred; avec Lambert Wilson, récitant, Akiko Ebi
présente l’intégrale des Harmonies poétiques et religieuses de Franz Liszt.
Akiko Ebi est l’invitée régulière de nombreux et prestigieux festivals internationaux comme la Roque d'Antéron, Verbier,
Menton, Echternach, la Folle Journée de Nantes, Lugano, Lisbonne, Tolède, Tokyo, Salt Lake City…
Akiko Ebi a enregistré de nombreux CD : Etudes complètes, Préludes, Nocturnes et Impromptus de Chopin (label Pierre
Verany), ainsi que des œuvres de Brahms, Liszt, Franck, Webern et Pierné. Elle a reçu deux Grand Prix d'Or japonais pour
ses deux enregistrement des compositions de Hikari Oé.
Considérée comme l'une des plus grandes interprètes japonaises de la musique française, Akiko Ebi est Chevalier des Arts et
des Lettres depuis 1993 et elle a reçu, en 2002, le prestigieux Japan Exxon-Mobile Music Prize.
Akiko Ebi siège régulièrement dans les jurys des plus importants concours internationaux de piano concours Marguerite
Long, Clara Haskil, Martha Argerich, José Iturbi, Vianna da Motta, Gina Bachauer, ainsi que dans les concours de Porto,
Montréal, Panama et Concours International Chopin de Varsovie.

Akiko Ebi est Directrice du Festival International de Piano de Yokohama ; en 2012, elle présidera le jury au 8 Concours
Hamamatsu, au Japon.

Ms AKIKO EBI, pianist
Japanese pianist Akiko Ebi launched her international career as winner of the 1975 Grand Prix of the
International Marguerite Long Competition in Paris, where she was also awarded four special prizes by Arthur
Rubinstein. In 1980, she won the 5th Prize of the International Chopin Competition in Warsaw, where jury
member Martha Argerich took note of her artistry and became her mentor. After winning First Prize at the
National Music Competition of Japan, Ms. Ebi continued her training at the Paris Conservatoire with Aldo
Ciccolini, and pursued additional studies with Vlado Perlemuter and Louis Kentner.
Ms. Ebi has performed throughout Europe, North and South America, China, the Middle East, and tours
annually in her native Japan. Recently, she performed with such orchestras as Ensemble Orchestral de Paris,
Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, Monte Carlo Philharmonic, NHK Symphony, Tokyo Metropolitan
Orchestra, and multiple orchestras in Russia, Poland, Slovakia and Argentina, with such conductors as
Skrowaczewski, Janowski, Guschulbauer, Foster, and Sado.
In addition to her recent 2-piano recitals with Martha Argerich, her chamber music performances include
collaborations with such distinguished artists as Ivry Gitlis, Augustin Dumay, Regis Pasquier, Angela Hewitt,
Michel Dalberto, the Morauges Quintet, and the Parisii, Manfred & Nova Quartets. Ms. Ebi appears annually at
many prestigious international music festivals, including La Roque d’Antheron, Menton, Echternach, Journee de
Nantes, Lugano, Lisbon, Toledo, Tokyo, and Salt Lake City.
A prolific recording artist, Ms. Ebi has recorded Chopin’s complete Etudes, Preludes, Nocturnes and
Impromptus, as well as works of Brahms, Liszt, Franck, Webern and Pierne. She was awarded the French Grand
Prix d’Or for her recording of the works of Dynam-Victor Fumet, and her 2nd Grand Prix d’Or Japonais for her
disc of the compositions of Hikari Oe. This important disc brought international attention to this gifted
composer, who was born developmentally disabled and unable to speak, but found his unique voice through
his music.
Regarded as one of the most important interpreters of French music among all Japanese pianists, Ms. Ebi was
named Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres by the French Government in 1993, and in 2002 she received Japan’s
prestigious Exxon-Mobile Music Prize.
Ms. Ebi has served on the juries of the world’s most important international piano competitions, including the
Martha Argerich, Marguerite Long, Clara Haskil, Jose Iturbi, Vianna da Motta, Gina Bachauer, and the
competitions of Porto, Montreal, Panama City, and the International Chopin Competition in Warsaw.
